Sony really upgraded this so much this year with the software updates. Being able to play games directly from cloud is awesome. This feels like a standalone handheld device now.

Excellent product, connection can be spotty if using separate wifi networks, make sure both of them are at least 100 mbps, even then there might be some lag during gameplay. But the screen is amazing and the controller is literally the same as the ps5 dualsense.

I was very indifferent on buying the portal but after trying it out, it is definitely worth the price if you ever wanted to play your PS5 in handheld mode. The screen has really good colors and brightness even for a LCD screen!

My son loves his “PlayStation on the go”as he calls it. There’s only one minor issue, the battery life isn’t that long but it’s a great product overall

I bought the PlayStation Portal thinking multiple people could use the PlayStation at the same time. I later found out that only one person can use the PS5 if you are streaming directly from it, which I should have researched before buying. The Portal can still be used if you have a PlayStation Plus Premium membership, since it allows you to stream games directly from the cloud without connecting to your PS5. But for that, you need a strong and stable internet connection, otherwise the experience is frustrating. Even though I had more than a decent internet connection, I experienced lower fps, reduced resolution, and constant lagging. On the positive side, the ergonomics are excellent and the Portal is relatively affordable compared to other handheld gaming devices. I ended up returning mine because I could not play the games I already owned, which was the main reason I bought it, and the cloud gaming option never provided a smooth or reliable experience.

The PlayStation Portal is unfortunately not a great option for FPS gamers due to several limitations. The most significant issue is noticeable input lag, which makes precise aiming and quick reactions difficult. This problem is compounded by connectivity issues; even with a strong connection (my internet 500 mbps) to the modem, the Portal tends to lag whenever you move even slightly away from the router. These combined factors make playing fast paced, competitive FPS games on the Portal a frustrating experience.

Before I purchased, I had read a lot of reviews and many were from people like me. I’m a parent of two young kids, so being able to sit in front of a TV with my system set up just isn’t in the cards right now, so I went ahead and got this. I do like it but there’s definitely room for improvement.
I use a wired in ps5 but some games are tough to play due to lag input. It’s not my WiFi, my WiFi is consistently strong. Sometimes the screen glitches and it’s weird.
Some games play perfectly. Oddly some online games play better than offline games. Battlefield plays perfectly. Ghosts of Tsushima plays great. MLB is hard, there’s definite lag between when you hit the button to when the action is performed. Madden mostly plays great. NHL is a mess. I don’t think it can handle that fast constant action right now. I hope it’s something they can patch.
I have headphones that work but it seems like they only connect bc I have the dongle in the ps5. There’s somehow no Bluetooth on this thing which in 2024 seems wild.
Battery life is pretty good. I’d estimate 4-6 hours per charge which is pretty good IMO.
Feels like you’re holding a real controller. Gets a little heavy if you’re laying down holding it but nothing crazy.
Overall a cool product that I hope continues to improve.
Oh, one more thing, it’s sort of loud. You can really hear it working if that makes sense. Lots of clicks and buzzing at times. Is that normal?

If you already have a Steam Deck, Ally, or any handheld, you're better off using Chiaki or Remote Play. You're only streaming at 15mbps max. Any motion, especially on the low quality LCD the portal is using, is gonna look like a smeary mess. Using Chiaki on my Steam Deck Oled, I can bump up the quality to 30mbps with roughly 2-5ms of input latency just like the Portal.

I got this for my husband and he loves this thing. He’s currently traveling and travels often for work and has been able to use this when he has a little bit of time to unwind and relax. It connects super easy to his PS five at home.

Love the way the device feels in the hands. Picture quality is great with minimal lag. Internet is the key, so make sure that is up to par, and its smooth sailing. Some occasional slow connections but not very common.

Good product if you don't have a dedicated TV to play games on. Streaming is ok, but streams from PS5 box - I am not yet able to get games to stream otherwise.
