Two weeks in, the PlayStation Portal has quietly become one of my most-used pieces of gaming hardware. As a dad with limited time and even more limited access to the TV, it’s solved exactly the problem I knew I had.
It does what it promises. Stream your PS5 to a handheld screen, and over a wired Ethernet connection, it’s remarkably close to the real thing.
Setup is painless, the interface is intuitive, and the experience is genuinely flawless. Late-night sessions in bed, a quick 20 minutes while the kids nap. The Portal makes these moments possible without any friction.
Sony didn’t cut corners on the hardware either. The packaging feels premium, the build quality matches, and it’s comfortable in hand during longer sessions.
The one real gripe is that Sony steers you toward their own overpriced wireless headphones. It’s a pretty cynical upsell on an otherwise great device. The workaround is simple though. A Bluetooth adapter like the Avantree Relay adds AirPod support and works a treat.
Minor audio gripe aside, this gets five unqualified stars. It hasn’t just added convenience. It’s genuinely changed how gaming fits into my life.

Even though the PS Portal isn't a dedicated handheld portable gaming device, it is a great addition in the PlayStation lineup. As an extension of the PS5; a device that's considered as an accessory is a joy to use nonetheless. It seemlessly connects to the PS5 via WiFi or mobile hotspot so long as it meets the required network speed. The screen is bring and fluid with rich colors and the speakers aren't too bad either though lack bass but it's more than enough for gaming sessions. Battery is okay about 5 hrs of on-screen time. The ergonomic is as expected with any other DualSense controller with great vibration feedback and adaptive triggers. Those who wants a dedicated PS handheld, this is a great option for those who can't sit in one place or another means to play when the TV or monitor is occupied by family members. Also, it is a great device for parents. I call it DadStation
Great and amazing with small rooms for improvement

Honestly it works amazingly ! Perfect for my son and how he likes to play the game moving around from spot to spot ever 10-15min. Feels great in the hands and the screen is just beautiful. Only thing I could say to improve is the streaming be a little smoother maybe a 4k screen as well but otherwise perfect

This is a great portable handheld accessory for the PS5. The game streaming from the console works great with very little lag and the 8 inch HD screen looks amazing. It's great being able to play PS5 games away from the TV in another part of the house like the basement, backyard or in bed. This is a must have accessory for remote play.

I’ve been using the PlayStation Portal Remote Player since October, and overall I really enjoy it. The build quality feels premium, the screen is crisp, and the controls feel exactly like a DualSense, which makes remote play feel surprisingly close to playing on my PS5 directly.
The only thing keeping this from being a full 5 stars is the battery life. It works well for short to medium play sessions, but I do find myself needing to recharge sooner than expected. For long gaming sessions, you’ll want to keep a charger nearby.
Still, it’s a great device if you want to play around the house without being tied to the TV. If Sony improves the battery life in future versions, it’ll be perfect.

A lot of people on various Reddits and over the internet in general said this thing was stupid and pointless but I was still interested in it. I watched a few YouTube reviews on it and a couple said they didn't enjoy it while quite a few others said it was awesome, and I gotta say, this thing IS awesome.
As a married man that likes to play video games late while his partner is asleep but doesn't want to bother or keep her awake with the tv on this thing is incredible. The picture quality is amazing, the sound is crisp and more than loud enough even when playing on my patio. Holding the PS Portal for an extended period of time isn't uncomfortable and my hands don't cramp up and I have fairly large hands, and the controls are identical to the dual shock, even down to the haptics and vibrations.
I will say that I almost give it 4 stars just because you need a pretty solid wifi connection to have full quality when playing from your PS5, but it's almost always in HD and plays incredibly smooth with rare lag or frame drops. That being said, when I go to connect to my PS5 for remote play it only takes about 15-20 seconds to wake up my PS5 and start remote playing, which might seem like a long wait until you realize that when you start your PS5 from rest mode it takes 10 seconds to wake up and be ready play, so really it's hardly a difference.
And the cloud streaming with the PSN+ also works flawlessly. And whether you're playing from the cloud or your PS5 as long as you have a good internet connection you can play anywhere making it fantastic for those that travel a lot or want to bring something on vacation for when the whether is poor, or like me, you want to play games late at night and not wake up your partner.
If you've got the extra $200 and you've been eyeballing one of these bad boys, GET ONE!
P.S. (Not PlayStation) the case I'm using is Skull & Co and it was $25 on Amazon and it's a perfect fit.

10/10 buy it if you enjoy sleeping alone.
Bought this for my fiancé and he plays it every. single. night.
My 10-year-old wants one too, but I’m hesitant because he treats controllers like they personally offended him, and I’m not sure the joysticks are replaceable. That said, it’s genuinely impressive- huge screen, smooth gameplay, and way cooler than expected.
Bonus: if you’re a nighttime reader who enjoys uninterrupted alone time, this is the perfect gift.
Great product for the price. Questionable for relationships. Would still recommend.

I’ve been using the PlayStation Portal for a while now, and overall it’s a solid device if you understand what it’s designed for.
The screen is excellent — the 8-inch display is bright, sharp, and makes PS5 games look great. The built-in DualSense controls feel just like a real PS5 controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, which really helps immersion. Games like action, RPGs, and sports titles play smoothly when the connection is strong.
That said, this device depends heavily on your internet connection. A stable Wi-Fi signal (or a strong mobile hotspot) is crucial. When the connection is good, gameplay feels responsive with minimal lag. When it’s not, you’ll notice input delay or drops. This isn’t a flaw of the hardware so much as the nature of cloud/remote play.
Battery life is decent — typically around 4–5 hours depending on usage — and the device is lightweight and comfortable for longer sessions. I especially like being able to play my PS5 without tying up the TV or while relaxing in another room.
Pros:
• Beautiful, large screen
• Real DualSense controls built in
• Easy setup with PS5
• Great for at-home or travel play
Cons:
• Requires strong, stable internet
• No native/offline gaming
• Limited use outside Remote Play
Final Thoughts:
The PlayStation Portal isn’t meant to replace a console or a handheld gaming PC — it’s a remote-play companion, and it does that job well. If you already own a PS5 and want flexibility to play anywhere with good Wi-Fi, it’s worth it. Just don’t expect standalone gaming.

Excellent display and visual gameplay. Wifi lag can affect gameplay by trying to reconnect to system or internet connection. Would still recommend it to a friend. Personal rating 8.5 out of 10

Honestly wasnt sure how i would like it but being a dad on the move and having to go places this is a great portable option as long as wifi or data is available. I would say this is better then the backbone and definitely a bigger screen.

The PS Portal is a great device for gamers on the go or gamers with Kids. Its reasonably light weight and easy to use. Setup only took 5 minutes and it was ready. The visuals are great and game play is smooth. Definitely worth the $200

I can’t believe how much I love this thing. I happen to be 1500 miles away from my PS5, getting to be able to play it like it’s in the other room. We do struggle bit with the Internet speed but when my speed is fine. The picture is very clear is very comfortable to hold I love the adaptive triggers. Taking this on the go is awesome. My biggest wish would be to be able to download some of my non-Internet playing games on the go. Maybe have them sink once you get back to Internet.

Got this for my 12 year-old for Christmas. He set it up all by himself using his PS4 account. As long as you have the Playstation subscription and WiFi, it works great!!! It even comes with a few Playstation classics, like Twisted Metal 3!!! Insane, I know!!! Reminded me of the old Sega Game Gear, but with a lot better graphics. LoL. Highly recommend for the casual gamer.

Best 200 dollar I have spent so far . I have used it from different homes and as long as you got good WiFi it will work great. I use it for when I don’t want to get out of bed , and my wife is sleeping next to me . Pair it to head phones and play . Also i use it to play it on the go. I was able to even play Fortnite on it because of how smooth it runs . However it’s complicated to get a lot of kills due to the screen size . But for story games it’s perfect . I’ve been playing Elden Ring non stop on it
Built quality :
It’s premium. It feels like a very expensive handheld from the smoothness of the fabric to the weight of the Portal everything is perfect .
Comfort:
It literally feels like you’re holding the PlayStation controller but with more weight which makes it feel even better .
Built in speakers :
They are pretty loud . Not so loud that the sound is distorted. Just a prefect balance.
Screen quality :
10/10 the screen looks vibrant and the colors looked well toned . Also I have played outside in the back porch in a well lit area and you can see pretty the screeb pretty well . I could not be happier with a purchase from Sony .
Recommend 100 percent .

Its really good and convenient to use anywhere but the con is that you'll have to have really strong wifi signal to use it seamlessly. I honestly think Sony should have made it where you can use moble data with it like they did with the PS Vita cause not a lot of places have a really strong wifi signal. Overall is really good to use, it was like having my PS5 literally in my hands. Although i wouldn't recommend using it if you're playing online with other people cause of the wifi signal strength I mentioned earlier but it is good to play on if you're playing single-player games.

I purchased the PlayStation Portal Remote Player from Best Buy and my experience with it has been very positive. The 8-inch screen is bright and clear, and games run smoothly at 1080p/60fps when connected to a strong WiFi network. I really like that it keeps the full DualSense features, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, because it feels just like playing directly on my PS5.
Setup was quick and straightforward. Once connected, I was able to play in different rooms without needing the TV, which has been very convenient. Battery life has also been solid for extended gaming sessions.
The only downside is that performance depends heavily on internet stability. With a weaker connection, you may notice some lag. Overall, it has been a great addition to my gaming setup and delivers exactly what it promises.

Are you in bed, feeling a little sleepy, but can’t resist the PS5 calling to you from the living room? Don't worry about disturbing anyone with the TV light—this device has got your back! As a dad, husband, and remote worker, I understand how tricky it can be to squeeze in gaming time. The PSR has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to enjoy my favorite games while the family is sound asleep, all without interrupting their peace.
I find myself using it more often than I realize because I genuinely love its lightweight design and stunning screen. Here’s hoping for a PS5 Vita in the near future, as that would be an incredible addition!
Great value and quality all around.
Gamer Dad Approved!

The portal is a must have for me so I can game away from home on trips, or when I want to play anywhere else away from home. The portal plays most of my games effortless with little to no lag. This a great purchase and don’t regret it one bit!

I was lucky enough to get this as a gift and I think it surpassed my expectations. When you have great in home network connections this puppy flies! It feels like playing a game locally and not streaming it. But when you lots of people in your home are using the internet to stream movies, etc, it really bogs down the performance.
This feels really comfortable to play with too compared to something like the Switch. And you get the haptics and trigger effects from an actual Dualsense controller.
Here is hoping we get an actual PSP in the near future!
