this sony srs x88 speaker provides really good feeling of the music. it can connect through blue tooth or using your home wifi network. the first start up takes some time since it has to update the system(maybe 15 minutes). after that, everything is good. the remoter control is very convenient. the speaker has a very good looking but its top surface is not finger print proof. you want to swipe it with a paper tower periodically. i bought it as deal of the day which has $150 off and very satisfied with my purchase. i probably won't buy it at $400. but it is really good.

I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I really appreciate high quality sound. I own the smaller Sony Bluetooth Speakers SRS-X5 and SRS-X7 and wanted something with big sound for my office. I was about to bite on the SRS-X9 when I saw the X88 was announced.
I decided the price seemed decent if it could deliver a better tonal range than the X7. Sadly, unless its right in front of you on your desk, the bass just is very very weak.
I played with the equalizer settings with the SongPal app, and nothing really moved the needle on the lows.
The mids and highs are quite good, but I honestly can't tell much of a difference compared to the X7 when it comes to the lows. So for the price and size, I'd rather be happy with a much cheaper X7 that delivers good enough sound.
Sony really has done a great job with this line of speakers. They're beautifully styled, simple, and easy to operate.

I listen to electronic music which has the purest highs and the purest lows. This music genre was a great way to test this system out. Even if you don't listen to electronic music, this review applies to you.
I was blown away by the clarity and true separation of high notes. Maybe I should not be so surprised given the two tweeters and two super tweeters they packed into that compact speaker box. Truly above and beyond.
The vocals sound good as expected. The bass is a bit lacking. It's not subpar but it didn't blow me away like the treble did. That being said, what can you expect from a box this compact? The bass it produces given the size limitations is good, but average not considering the size limitations.
Comparatively, the Bose wave radio gives a richer low end but the srs x88 exceeds it in every other category.
If it wasn't for the connectivity, based on sound alone, the device would be better priced at around $325, not $400. The connectivity is amazing though (WiFi, Blutooth, NFC, USB, input jack, dedicated remote smartphone app, chromecast, etc.) Several Sony wireless systems like this one support the high quality FLAC format, unlike competitors such as Bose. This is so important for audiophiles like myself. In fact, it was the tipping point for my purchase. I wanted a wireless system that could do everything and this one was it.

I've had this speaker for several months now, and it continues to impress. Much louder sound and bass than the size would suggest. Just be sure to position it carefully in the room so you don't have dead spots. Mine sits on a shelf in the corner of the living room and sound fills the room. I also really like the choice of both AirPlay and Google Cast, which expands the range when streaming from my phone. This was one of the deciding factors for me since I didn't like the limited range of Bluetooth speakers or the propriety limitations of other speakers. The SongPal app is a bit cumbersome, but I rarely need to use it since I can stream directly through other apps.

The HI-Res Airplay Masterpiece

I usually do not do this but this thing is too great not to write a review. For weeks I was deciding which bluetooth speaker I wanted. I finally decided that I wanted one with Airplay capabilities. Now days Airplay capable speakers are far and inbetween. The ones I did find were cheap off brand stereos and not ones I was looking for quality wise. My roommate has the bose soundlink 3 which is a great little portable speaker, and my other roommate has the bose soundtouch 20. Both are great speakers and the later having airplay capabilities. After reading dozens of reviews I eventually decided to go with the Sony SRSX88 instead of the Bose. I am soooo glad I did!! This speaker is incredible! Setting it up was a breeze. Using airplay from all my apple devices is so convenient with higher sound quality than bluetooth even though bluetooth still sounds amazing. One thing that sold me also was the HI-Res audio capabilities. I had several albums from my favorite artist in FLAC format waiting the day to have a speaker worthy of the quality. I pluged in my USB loaded with the HI-Res audio. INCREDIBLE! Music has never sounded so good. Absolutely incredible. Remember though that this speaker is not very portable, having no built in battery but that is not its purpose it is a HI-Res Airplay HI-Fi Multi room speaker. Now to add to my collection with more SRS X88 and SRS X77 for Multi Room listening and Wireless surround sound! Great job Sony!!!!
