At first look you look at its size and immediately think that this speaker will be just average sounding. Looking over its features I love to see that it is capable of playing high resolution audio, uses bluetooth 4.2, is water proof, dust proof, and shock proof. It really boasts about having "extra bass", in big bold letters on the front of the box. It was east to sync up to my Samsung Note 8. I love that it has NFC connectivity as well where you hover your phone to connect or even disconnect your phone/device. The buttons have a soft tactile feel to them which makes you aware of button presses. The rear of the speaker houses a thick rubber flap that protects the aux input, and micro USB charging port. I would have liked to see Sony get with the times and use a USB-C charging port. There is a battery button that when pressed, will audibly tell you how much charge the battery has. There is also a button for wireless party chaining up to 100 other speakers! That is impressive and I would love to test it out to see if I can have a party playlist throughout my whole house. Separately you have the option to sync a second speaker for stereo left and right option. Now as far as sound quality goes, it is better than most but since it clearly is made for the "extra bass" fans, I have to say I was not impressed. You can hear a good amount of the low and mid range sounds compared to my go to speaker, I am impressed. I would have liked to have had that umph from the bass but it just isn't there. Maybe it is most noticeable in their higher end model but it isn't applicable in this case. Overall, good job Sony on a well rounded speaker that is able to go everywhere.

I had my doubts that a speaker this size would put out the quality of sound that I wanted, but I was wrong. The bass is amazing and doesn't lose clarity as the volume goes up. There are no buzzing sounds that you tend to hear sometimes with a lot of bass. The volume goes very high. I haven't even turned it all the way up yet because it wasn't necessary. Bluetooth function works well and doesn't lose connection. Distance says that it will go 30 ft, but I still had connectivity a little beyond that with the speaker being downstairs and my source upstairs. Amazingly pleased with this purchase!

Given the XB21’s compact and light design, the XB21 is perfectly suited for pool, beach, or travel use. The XB21 paired easily with all my Bluetooth devices and played music from all sources with no delays or cutouts/lost connection. The main problem with the XB21 was sound quality and music reproduction. When playing music selections with bass frequencies the XB21 misreproduced the bass, overwhelming the mid and high frequencies. Bass was muddy and undefined. When playing music selections with little to no bass, the shortcomings of the XB21 to properly reproduce mid and high frequencies became very apparent. As a result, the XB21 is not able to do a decent job of maintaining tonal balance, reproducing music selections, and/or presenting any of the nuances of various music selections. Perhaps for those on a strict budget the XB21s is a good option, but realistically there are much better small, portable Bluetooth speaker options.

Easy to use. Bought it for my 15 year old for Christmas. He wanted the Jbl but we tried this one. I have to say I’m impressed. It sounds nice and holds a battery well. Has nice bass to it also.

I purchased two of these after speaking with a rep who helped me decide on the best option for my budget. I was skeptical on how good these would sound, range, battery life, etc. but I have used them at one indoor and three outdoor festive occasions recently and everyone enjoyed them immensely. The sound is crisp and clear, albeit not very loud but they are smaller Bluetooth speakers. The bigger the budget, the better the sound. I purchased two (and plan to purchase two more) since they can be "chained" together to produce great effects. Since they're portable, they can set them up in different locations for better sound optimization. I am really happy that I purchased these.

Overall I've been very happy with this Bluetooth speaker. The volume and clarity are great, and I was surprised by the spectrum of adjustment for EQ/ options for altering sound output (although the Sony presets I've no complaint about). The battery life is great for my needs though I guess I wish it didn't lower volume when the battery reached a certain level of discharge but generally this is helpful also and really is more of an after thought. Generally I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a modest sound system that is more about convenience than bells and whistles. For the price point I'd absolutely buy again.

I love this cute little speaker. It pairs easily to my phone or tv and gets good volume. It’s waterproof so can use by the pool.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little mobile speaker. I have used it consistently since My purchase and have not had any issues. The speaker has great high sounds and pretty deep bass. I have travelled with the speaker and used it at home, no matter where, I get great use. It connects to my phone quickly, and has great battery life. Im contemplating getting another for the surround effect, but one is more than enough for what I need, im sure two would be amazing. Overall, I am satisfied and would recommend if you’re looking for a great speaker within a smaller budget.

This unit has good sound for the price and carries a charge a long time. Also compact and yet waterproof. Can’t really go wrong with this one.

This little speaker is easy to carry with you, doesn’t take up much, if any space and puts out a great volume and clarity.

Sound quality wise is pretty good, the volume reaches a loud level for the ones who like hard rock like me, the light that flashes is cool but its only white (boring) compared to the bigger models where the light changes colors, the battery will die quicker if you play it at a maximum level in like 20 minutes. Looks wise is a lil ugly, rough looking not slick and sofisticated perhaps its because the unit is water resistant. The texture of the body is not plastic or metal, feels like a cloth, uhh its kinda hard to grab unit feels fat like a tamale or fat sandwich, also the base is not really that good it doesnt keep the speaker from rolling very well. Very small legs (buttons) to sit on that feel they might come come out lose too soon.

This was given as a Christmas gift. Tested plenty and for a smaller speaker, this one is one of the best. It’s loud and clear at the highest level. The bass is awesome and this item is at a great price. Would definitely purchase again! A++

I bought this speaker for my father who really enjoyed it. The bass and clarity of sound was amazing! Sounds good while playing Jazz. The speaker is very portable and fit in my fathers jacket. It went everywhere he went lol

When they say 'extra bass' they are not kidding. Easy to charge and lasts about 12 hours, moves from room to room, and a voice comes on to remind you to charge. So glad we made this purchase.

This Sony Bluetooth speaker was well worth the price. It’s waterproof so it’s perfect for taking out on the lake! The sound is good considering it’s compact size. Battery life is decent.

This speaker is amazing!!! I am so glad I purchased it. Love the sound quality and the volume from such a small thing. Plus its lightweight, portable and looks great. I would highly recommend this purchase!

Good bass and can be pushed loud enough without too much distortion to fill a good size room. The color lights are cool too. If you have other similar models from Sony, you can group them for surround sound.

I really like this speaker and would give it 5 Stars except that I seem to struggle with connecting it to the SRS-XB-31 to do the party chain. My intention was to buy more of the speakers along the way and then have them all linked throughout my house. Unfortunately Sony does not put actual written instructions about how to link the speakers but rather draws little pictures that I don't find to be all that useful. I don't mind the pictures but it certainly would be nice if somebody would just write instructions but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. Nonetheless they are nice speakers so if you're more technically inclined and you don't mind looking at funny little pictures rather than reading instructions go ahead and buy them.
