When playing a blue ray, play via the remote causes the player to hang. Only when scene selection is selected does the movie play. Not sure what to make of it. Otherwise, great unit.

The new Sony - UBP-X1100ES - 4K Ultra HD Blu Ray player is the latest in the ES series from the company. As expected, it is solidly built and quite easy to set up and operate. I replaced my X800 because I wanted Dolby Vision, Dolby ATMOS and DTS:X compatibility. I have my X1100ES connected directly to my Samsung Q90R soundbar and from the soundbar to my LG E8 OLED display. The Q90R is a 7.1.4 unit with rear wireless surrounds that support ATMOS and DTS:X via reflected sound from 4 discrete up-firing speakers. I have connected it via Ethernet for internet access and streaming. The provided remote is pretty basic, not backlit but provides easy access to all of the features you'll need. There is a dedicated Netflix button. The video and audio quality are pristine. Blu Ray playback is flawless and all of the HD audio can be delivered either as PCM or bitstream. It also streams content from both my Synology and WD NAS devices without any problems. I really have only two issues with the player. The first is that the unit can have problems with HDMI sync. I'm not sure if this is related to HDMI cabling or the specific hardware that I am running. Sync can drop during playback but also can fail if you pause the unit too long or on initial power up. To be fair, these sync issues can be seen with other manufacturer's equipment as well. I have seen firmware upgrades improve or even eliminate this. The second issue is a real pain. The unit will NOT auto-switch to Dolby Vision. Instead you must enter the setup mode, drill down to the audio section and manually turn the setting on. Then you have to remember to turn it off when you want to watch any non-DV content. This can be a real problem because much of the available DV content is either not labeled or very difficult to determine in advance. Again, other players can auto-switch so I am extremely hopeful that a future firmware upgrade will fix this. If (when) that happens this unit will earn a solid 5 stars. The X1100ES offers a solidly built, competitive choice and definitely deserves your consideration.

Nice blu-ray player but in the middle of a movie the screen would turn black and the movie would pause then start playing again. We returned and order another one. Hopefully, this one doesn’t have the same problem. Best Buy doesn’t offer a warranty with this blu-ray player?

I purchased this mainly to use as an audiophile CD/SACD player. It has performed quite well in the 3 weeks I've had it so far. It's also an excellent blue ray dvd unit.

When I bought my Sony XBR 4K TV I was a little disappointed that there wasn't much 4K programming available to test the limits of my TV. But this Sony UBP-X1100ES has made it completely worth buying the TV, First of all setup is so easy. Connect a high speed HDMI cable to the TV and plug it in. An on screen setup helps you connect the unit to your WiFi and there are several screen setting that can be adjusted also. I left most on auto knowing that Sony engineers are a lot smarter then me on setting the correct outputs and resolutions. After install I immediately rented 1 blue ray dvd (the Meg) to see the upscaling feature, and bought 1 4k ultra HD movie (Avengers Infinity War). The colors in the Meg were so bold and life like it really felt like I was undersea with the actors. The deep blues of the sea, the deep blacks of the ocean floor and the brightness when they would turn the lights on the subs on were amazing.I never thought i could ever get a picture like that while watching a DVD. The upscaling to 4k works great while watching just an HD video. Now for the 4k UHD movie, The Avengers. The depth was the most impressive feature while watching the movie. It was as if the characters were right in my living room. The HDR on the player and TV bring so many colors to life. The sound from the UBP-X1100ES player is awesome as well. Played through my Sony soundbar with rear surround and Atmos the quality was clear, precise and LOUD!!. From the pulsating underwater attacks in The MEG to the thunderous battles in The Avengers the quality of the sound was amazing. There are some streaming apps as well installed on the player. Netflix, Prime and You Tube can be watched through the player but I'm sure most people who buy this player have a smart TV with these apps already installed on the TV. This Sony UBP-X1100ES has now made me appreciate why I bought a 4K HDR TV in the first place.

The ES line from Sony has always been my choice for electronics and this BD player doesn't disappoint. Solid and heavy, attractive look and near perfect playback make this BD player highly recommended.

This player is awesome since it includes Bluetooth! Not even Panasonic latest player include it. This goes well with those with projectors like myself to link up with a Bluetooth sound bar like the bose 300. No more cables.

This replaced my oppo 203. Offers the same image quality as the Oppo, plus a more seamless experience since my entire home theater set up is Sony.

It works. Plays SACD. BUT- The first 4k disk I tried to play froze during playback. I thought it could be the brand new disk was defective. Then it froze again on another disk of the set, and then it didn't freeze during a replay of the same scene later. For such an expensive piece of equipment, I would never have thought. PASS
