Customers admire the UBP-X1100ES's superb picture quality, especially its upscaling capabilities and HDR performance, making it a joy to use. Many found the player easy to set up and operate. However, some users expressed dissatisfaction with the remote control and the lack of automatic Dolby Vision switching.

Purchased this player on January 30th 2021, October 15 and it doesn't work. Won't do a thing, can't get to the menu to reset. A waste of $ 500.00 I'm sone with Sony. I will estimate I watched 20 movies

This is the second expensive 4K player I have from them and they constantly lock up. Really mad about this crappy firmware.

I have now owned my unit for 4 months now. I am technically literate but not an electrical engineer as some are on this forum but I did extensive research on this forum and other sites before purchasing and I wanted to give something back.
First let me say that I incredibly happy with the unit. Let me clarify some inaccuracies in the data describing the unit. It supports HDR 10. It supports DTS HD and Dolby ATMOS and previous iterations from both labs. There is a port in front that allows streaming from a USB drive. If connected to the internet one can access any streaming services such as Netflix but more importantly the software can be updated such that the unit does not become obsolete quickly as new sound and vision software is introduced.
I own a large SACD collection so it is bonus that I can play those on this unit once I complete the system with an appropriate sound system.
What I like most is that the operating system is self learning and therefore you don’t need to fuss with it although you can by going into a series of complex menus. The picture quality is tremendous and the up processing excellent on DVD’s where the information is there, but it doesn’t do much for some of my older DVD’s other than an enhancement of sharpness. The sound is equally good but the jury is still out until a top notch sound system is added.
What I don’t like is the remote. Primarily because I watch in semi-darkness most of the time and it is not backlit. This is further frustrating because the only tactile indicator is only on the play key. Don’t lose the remote because it is the only to operate the unit.
Buying it was a no brainer for me because of the price (especially on sale) and the ability to playback SACD’s. Very happy. I can’t wait to connect it to a 4K monitor.

I already have a older gen 4K Sony player and had high expectations for this new model. This model is for 4K HRD TV’s but will still support you older none HDR TV’s. It comes with the gold standard support of HDR10, Dolby Vision and Atoms. The player comes with 2 HDMI ports, optical out, wifi connection or a Ethernet work. Also this is a small thing but the power cord is detachable which is nice to have when doing the home theater set up.
The interface is easy to use and set up. It feels slimed down from my other player and is a improvement for sure. It also comes with 3 popular apps Netflix, Prime, and YouTube. The Remote is easy to navigate and has a short cut button to get to Netflix.
I watched a few films on this player and everything sounded and looked great. I see the HDR and Dolby Vision delivering what they promised. This is a great player to add to any home theater set up. I will help get the most and best quality out of your home theater set up.
Happy watching.

The Sony DVD player may be a great unit... but when you buy a supposedly new unit and it is shipped to you in a beat up, retaped box and inside the box there is no owners manual or warranty card and it looks like it was opened on more the one occasion...well you begin to have your doubts about your purchase. Promptly sent it back to Best Buy and will look for something else later.

For CDs and SACDs it is outstanding.

I did not buy this for video -- only for 2-channel SACD and CD audio. It is outstanding. I am a musician and years ago worked in high-end audio stores. I was looking for an SACD player since my old one went blotto. A dedicated high-end CD player that also plays SACDs these days is always over $1000.00. I did a LOT of research before buying this and have listened to it with both SACDs and CDs in many genre. It is smooth, has great dynamics, is very accurate, and is solid and well-built. This sounds miles better than my old SACD player, and also much better than the Sony 4K DVD player I use for home theater. Maybe I'll hook it up to my tv some day, but probably not. It's too good in my stereo system.

Good, if you want the best.

I have a 4K bluray player and so does my aunt & uncle. The other version Sony has for $150 is what I have and it's plenty. However if you want the best available this is for you. I do like that it's got a display on the front, that sorta thing is nearly obsolete but I actually like it. The big kickback here is the price. I suppose if you paid in the thousands for your TV you'd want the very best 4K bluray player and this would surely qualify. However for most people the $150 model is not just a way to get into 4K movies, but it's actually a very good way to do so. I only don't recommend the $500 version cause I don't believe that many have a setup that can maximize it's potential and capabilities. It's good, but also excessive and ahead of it's time.

Has been freezing for the last 3 years. Stay Away

This player freezes during playback on new 4K Discs. I've had other problems with it freezing during YouTube viewing and I had to cycle the power to fix. It would randomly freeze the video and/or sound and it never recovers. It wasn't a problem with the discs. I could replay a scene that froze and it doesn't freeze the next time. The freezing is random and it's enough to ruin the experience. My wife rarely watches movies in the theater room but last night she wanted to watch Maverick Top Gun. The player failed over and over again. We finally gave up.
I purchased this player three years ago and paid $1,000 for it. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for.
The software is up to date so I'm guessing it's time for a new player. Great, just in time for Thanksgiving with company coming over. I get to purchase and program a new player.
