Just read the manual so that it does not "auto turn off" - When you want to use it outside, you can connect your DOT to the USB port of the speaker to power it on...

Unfortunately Sony has decided to place a proprietary adapter which is awfully large and cumbersome and inappropriate for a portable speaker. Takes about 4 hours to fully charge and lasts for a surprisingly long time. Overall sound quality is very good.
