This was worth the upgrade, had a sound kick BT speaker which I had for about 3 years. Figured it was time for an upgrade, Wanted a new speaker that was louder and more powerful. That's when i stumbled upon this bad boy. The sound is amazing and is louder, love the extra bass feature, and I loooove the LED lights that goes a long with the song. Fills up a whole room, definitely would recommend this speaker. Sony makes some good quality stuff!!!

This speaker has the clearest sound I’ve ever heard in any brand of speakers. It’s durable and water resistant. I️ bought this speaker for my brother who is a welder and when he is welding he will turn the volume up all the way and you can still hear it over the welding machine and it is clear as day. The price was reasonable and worth it. Definitely buying from Sony again !

I just recently purchased this Sony - XB40 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Blue & was blown away! I purchased this because I had a “my Best Buy offer“. My offer had a price of $79.99 when checking out. This retails @ $249.99 which to me is definitely overpriced. All of these brands of portable speakers seem like they’re very expensive for a decent brand/quality. For $80, I was easily interested considering the amount I was saving. First off, I was surprised how nice looking and well-made it was when I unpackaged it. And then I was blown away when I finally started listening to it. The sound of the music triggers a neon strobe light effect as well. I’m very happy that I purchased this product! SONY made a high quality product & I may actually get a second one For this price! I saved $170.00 which is impossible for me to turn down unfortunately!

I've owned more than a few portable wireless speakers throughout the years, but this one is truly unique. You can count on it to deliver excellent sound quality and a splash of fun wherever your adventures take you. That being said, this speaker maintains a few drawbacks that plague most wireless speakers available today. PROS: - Truly excellent sound quality - probably some of the best I've heard from a wireless, battery-enabled speaker. Enabling the EXTRA BASS option puts the speaker above the competition, delivering deep, full sounds with clear and crisp vocals. You'd be hard-pressed to find a portable speaker with better sound quality in this price range. - Very portable: it's lightweight yet feels very sturdy and substantial. It will easily survive a weekend trip in a duffle bag. - Colored lights and strobe: you can create your own mini night club. The lights pulse and change based on the beat of the song. You won't want to look away. - A USB port is included on the back of the speaker so you can charge your phone while on the go. - Water resistant: I used the speaker by my pool over the weekend. It didn't get wet, but it's nice having the peace-of-mind knowing that it can withstand a few splashes. - Battery life: Sony claims up to 24 hours of battery life. I can't confirm that, but I used the speaker for more than 12 hours last weekend without having to recharge it. Needless to say, I'm not worried about battery life. SEEMS COOL, BUT COULDN'T TEST: - Wireless Party Chain: Sony says you can connect and synchronize up to 10 of these speakers via Bluetooth to create a massive light and music show. I would have loved to try this, but I don't have access to 10 XB40 speakers. CONS: - Bluetooth is the only option for wireless connectivity. It works fine, but there are obvious limitations. If your phone rings, you'll have to disable Bluetooth if you want to take the call. All of your phone alert sounds will go through the speaker when connected via Bluetooth. - The lights on the speaker are cool, but if you want to turn them off, the only way appears to be through the app on your phone. I wish Sony would have included a button on the speaker to control the lights. - Speaking of apps, the ones used to control this speaker (SongPal and Fiestable) are extremely basic (at least on iPhone). It took me a while to finally learn how to control the light effects. Hopefully Sony improves the iPhone apps in future updates. Overall, this is a solid wireless speaker from Sony that is sure to spark conversation and bring fun to any situation. A few small refinements from Sony would have really put this speaker over the top, but the light effects alone make this speaker a solid contender in the crowded wireless speaker market. Recommended!

This is my second Sony XB40 and while just one is still awesome, having a second one to pair is even better! I caught this item on sale and it’s more than worth the asking price!

The sound quality of this speaker is excellent and the additional technology that supports this unit is great for any audio setting.

These are party ready speakers! Huge sound that doesn't distort and I put these up loud. The lighting features are fun and move to the music letting you create a club scene in your living room. Seriously - add a smoke machine and you just setup a club. You can turn the lights off or change their colors with the app. Tried all kinds of different music through them and it doesn't disappoint. Good bass (enhanced with XB - "extra bass" mode), highs, lows, and mid all sound good. Put on a live song and it sounded like they were playing in my living room. Haven't played it for more than a few hours, but still going strong and claims a 24 battery life, so could see this being a great must have for a weekend at the beach, camping, etc. without needing a charge. The Fiestable app is pretty cool - it gives you a ton of DJ-esk features like drums, horns, voice, and other effects that alter the song while playing (like soloing out the bass track, vocal track, etc.) - Not sure how it does it, but it was fun to play with. I only have one, but I could see how the linking feature would be cool setup 2 to 4 of these together and then just drop them in the corners of your room and party on. Up to 10 can be linked so you could drop these thoughout the whole house. The XB40 is has some weight to it, but that's easily justified with it's huge loud sound and 24 battery capabilities. Definitely recommend.

The Sony SRS-XB40 has been the speaker my teenage kids have been fighting over since I received it. The sound on it is surprisingly loud and clear with rich sounding bass. With quick connection using NFC on my Android phone I was up and running in no time flat. This thing is like a little party box with the various light features and the ability to link multiple speakers together. I envision walking in with my family of 4, each carrying a speaker, setting them around and starting a party wherever we are. Price is the limiting factor on that though. The lights are entertaining and the only way to truly control them is through one of two apps advertised in the material that is in the package, Music Center and Fiestable, which Fiestable now appears only inside Music Center. You can turn the lights on and off by holding the Extra Bass button on the speaker itself, but by default it is in “Rave” mode. Through the Settings menu of the Music Center app you can find an EQ, power options and illumination. The lighting mode then can be changed off through 12 other settings, with some preset color modes. However, you can also play with the lights through Illumination in Fiestable, which only allows color changing and blinking rate of the color while you hold it. Also strangely is that if you set a color, then go back to settings and choose a color mode, it will continue to hold your set color instead of changing to “Calm Lime” per se. The DJ Control is interesting in the Fiestable app as well. It modifies the sound and plays sound effects from the speaker, no matter the source. It gives you a feel that you are a “real DJ”, for a moment, till you realize how annoying it can get. It feels sturdy and heavy enough to sit on a ledge by the pool without a beach ball knocking it off. Plus it is splash resistant and shouldn’t have any issues from the water of weather. It does have a rubber seal on the panel where USB, power, the charging cable and a reset button are and it is not meant to open in case of getting wet. The buttons all appear to be sealed with the rubber that wraps the entire speaker which also makes me wonder, why is there no skip button on there? Overall, it is a fun speaker and that is why my teenage kids love it. I just wish I had better control over the lights and didn’t have to go to an app within an app to make changes in two different places.

Best Buy is one of the best store for retailers!!!

First I would like to say I was impressed with the size vs sound component of this device. It is not huge but it does have a reasonable amount of bass for a portable speaker. I only have one to use but the idea of having two in a space paired really would be interesting. I am not usually one for flashy lights or flair but this has a good balance of show and just quality for your music. The built in dual passive radiators actually give it a real bass feel but it is not muffled or overdone. So far the bluetooth distance and battery life have not been issues either. The last but really nice feature that sold me was the ability to use it with my phone as a portable phone intercom type system. It is much better than just using the speaker on my phone and had zero static or issues with the voice quality. It is nice that it has a plug as well so it is not dependent on USB to charge or work. If you work from home this is a great device to own for calls and music alike.

I also have Sony XB3 So at first I thought It didn't sound good and I was like man they sound the same but I did a play back to back and realize the xb3 sounded alittle cheaper and not much bass. This Thing is bigger then XB3 and larger driver. Sony XB40 Sound really good clean bass and frequency is really a top notch. I Can finally control the range I want to make sure I have the right sound for each of the song I listen too! The light is my favorite part, I can Customize the lighting rgb color but only works when you are live, cannot be done when your not on live. Battery Is a must but I know 20% as rumor always hate that battery saver but for me I always listen low volume, so it don't matter to me. I would use this in a car just to play my own music, Usually your car don't have good sound quality and bass sound weird, so I blast this in the car only at 50% volume which is already to loud and clear. 24 hours is enough for me to travel and go camping. I know this is alot heavier then XB3 but to me I dont care is still small enough to go out backpacking. Overall I love it and I recommend this!

Great blue tooth speaker that is used with a phone for streaming music or my downloads. Checked out and listened to the various brands on display in the store which made buying that much better to find what I wanted. To me, the Sony had a much better base sound than the others and the highs are crisp. The led lights are a cool feature that change with the music. The speaker linked easily to my phone. Charging is also easy along with the speaker being water resistant. Once fully charged, it was used several hours a day for 12 days before needing recharged. Probably would last longer but I used the lights which can be turned off. Another great feature is it has a USB power out so I can plug in the phone for extended run times when at a park or beach or to just recharge the phone. The sound volume from this speaker can be turned up loud if you want to and fill an entire large room. Way more than expected considering its size and the base is solid. With this Sony, you can add additional speakers, up to ten total, which Sony calls the party chain. Definitely will be buying and adding another for outside parties. Thanks Sony and Best Buy.

Love the base from this speaker. The highs could be a little better but the mids and the base make up for it. My kids love the lights and keeps them entertained. Sony did a great job on the sound. The app needs a lot of help sometimes doesn't recanize the speaker and have to adjust the EQ a couple of time. If the app worked better I would have gave it 5 stars. I also own the JBL xtreme and that is a louder and has better highs then the sony. Love the light show which sold me on this speaker.

I have always been a Bose person, but finally decided to try something else. And I’m glad I did... this speaker does not disappoint. This speaker is the perfect size to carry anywhere. Awesome sound especially with the extra bass on. It’s built in multicolor line light and speaker lights are a plus especially when all the lights are off in the room. I did purchase it on Black Friday so it was on sale for a great price. If you are looking for a powerful great Bluetooth speaker, look no further. You won’t be disappointed !!

I originally bought a different brand that is highly reputable, and seems to be the most advertised portable BT speaker. I got home charged it and it was muddy sounding vocals and bass. Returned next day to exchange, but didn't know for what other brand. Sales rep suggested this. Was a bit skeptical since dont see any advertisement and no talk about them. Got it home plugged it in and was way more than I expected in sound quality all around lows, mids, highs, plus the light show is an added bonus. Always hit the power button when enter the garage and open music app on my phone and instantly pairs and plays my music all day long. There was a newer model out when I bought this but since this was on sale and don't plan on having it by a pool or anything I didn't need to spend the extra money on the newer version with better water resistance and looks. Will buy newest model when goes on sale. They pair together so could make it surround sound while working in garage.

Sony did it again!!! A great small, portable, wireless speaker! I use this speaker at work/in my office daily all the way in the back of my plant and I get so many compliments on the sound, when co-workers see what the sound is coming out of people are even more amazed by the light display it puts on to the music and they can’t believe that such loud, clear, wonderful sound is coming from this sleek little box!

This blue tooth speaker delivers great sound and good base. I like the fact that it lasts 24hrs before u need to charge it. So easy to sync with your phone and small enough to carry with you. I will be purchasing another one for my dad. I think it is a great gift.

Hear me out. This thing weighs a good bit. What you get for that weight is full sound and 24 hour battery life. I haven't verified the 24 hour claim but we've went weeks since the first charge using it on and off at the pool and vacation. Sound (especially bass) is satisfying for a portable speaker. Many of the others I listened to at Best Buy were thin. Not this one! Apps are just okay for me. Nothing special. I usually just use the Apple Music app and stream to the speaker. I'd definitely buy again. In fact I'm thinking of getting a second one to pair as a stereo speaker for outdoor gatherings instead of exterior mounted speakers. I'll have portable flexibility with a single investment.

I have purchased several portable bluetooth speakers in the past and the Sony XB40 is the best one thus far. It has a long lasting battery. In my testing with moderate volume and the LED lights turned off, I was able to get about 23 hours from a single charge! I also like the look and build quality of the speaker; the LED lights make this speaker unique. As for the sound quality, it is very good. I was able to hear the speaker on display at the Best Buy store. The bass is pretty good for it being a portable speaker that you can carry around in a backpack or bag. I recommend using the Sony app that you can download so that you can set the equalizer to your preference.
