Customers are impressed with the XBR X850D Series 75" TV's picture quality, ease of use, and vibrant colors. Many appreciate the 4K resolution and find the upscaling capabilities to be excellent, resulting in a great viewing experience even with non-4K content. However, some users have noted issues with the remote control's responsiveness and contrast in dark scenes. While the design is generally praised, a few customers mentioned the TV's weight as a potential drawback.

I wasn't happy with that fact that after the geek squad Technicians pulled the tv out the box there was a large 3 inch scratch on the screen. But I guess that reflects the over $1500 in savings I got buy purchasing an open box tv.

I should have listened when I read several reviews of the poor blacks, light bleed during dark scenes and clouding. I thought that maybe they just had bad luck. I had this TV delivered and returned twice in 1 week after discovering defects on the screen both times. 1st TV had a very noticeable light bleed on the right of the screen and clouding. The second TV had multiple areas along the top of light bleeding and several areas of clouding. I'm giving Sony one more chance and updgrading to the 940D since a sales rep said it would be a night and day difference and solve all my problems. He attributed my problems to poor quality control, the type of lighting this TV has(edge lighting) and/or damage during shipping. Other than that, the screen displays beautiful colors during light scenes, but if I'm spending this much money on a TV it better offer me the best of both worlds.

I researched several makes and models over several weeks, and then went to the local stores to compare the final 2-3 contenders using manufacturer demo stands.
My purchase decision was strongly influenced by the $2300 price compared to 2X more for the new 900E model, or nearly 3X for the 940E model, and the differences are mainly 10% better color and 20% better blacks.
I watch mostly live sports and TV shows/movies over xFinity cable so the performance is indiscernible from the higher priced sets, especially since the upscaling and processing are so good.
Previously we owned a 37" Sony XBR that performed well for the first 10 years and is still going strong, so the brand decision was easy. In my opinion and experience Sony is the best brand in terms of design and quality.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend this product.

Was originally looking at the Samsung models, but ended up buying the 2016 75" Sony model since Samsung didn't have their 2016 models out yet. I figured for about the same amount of money, might as well get the newer model along with HDR feature. I love the quality of the picture and smart functions of this 4K Ultra HD tv set. Great for regular shows and sports. The one hiccup I had was when I had to reset the internet connection and it took me two days before I figured out how to bring up the keypad for alpha and numeric inputs (hold down the center button on remote). Since there was no paper manual with the tv and couldn't find something on you tube, I happen to stumble on the solution when I decided to try different buttons on remote "one more time." Apparently, not very intuitive remote. Other than that, very happy with my purchase.

When you can afford what you want but aren't crazy

I had a smaller (55 inch) version of the same TV from the previous year and loved it. However, when I rearranged my great room and was sitting another 6 feet further back from the TV, I found that the 55 inch was just a bit too small. So, I set out to get a larger TV. Besides my experience with the smaller version Sony, I did a fair amount of research and spent a few hours walking around Best Buy with my nose pressed to the screens, dissecting pixels and scrutinizing contrast, etc... from their countless offerings; despite the fact I realize how unreasonable a test standard that is. In the end, this TV won out, and here's why...
My wife and I are both gainfully employed professionals and, though we are NOT rich, we have a comfortable budget that allows for a few splurges on discretionary purchases. So... we can pretty much afford anything they have out there (at least anything that they offer at Best Buy). However, I don't spend my life in front of the TV and I don't like to just waste money so I was looking for a really good TV that I would be happy with for a long time to come but not go completely over the top. With offerings in the hundreds of dollars up to $20,000, it can be a bit of a challenge to find that sweet spot and make sense of it all. The bottom line is that you CAN get a pretty decent TV for pretty cheap (around or even under $1,000). However, when compared side-by-side, you can tell the difference between a $1,000 TV and this Sony I purchased for $2,500. The $1,000 TV is still pretty good, light years ahead of the best TVs from a decade ago, just not quite as good as my Sony. It's up to you to decide if you really care about the small (but noticeable) difference in performance or the extra cash the better TV will set you back. I really liked the LG OLED offerings but the 65 inch version was still $700 more dollars than the 75 inch Sony and I really wanted the extra size for my room. The 75 inch OLED from LG wasn't even available in the store and I soon found out why -- it was a special order item that cost some ridiculous amount of money (I don't even remember... 10,000 or more, I think) -- more than I was willing to spend for a barely noticeable difference. I'm sure many people will think the same thing about my choice -- too much money for the small difference in performance. This Sony was my "sweet spot" for price and performance. Good luck finding yours!
BTW, I do have one small complaint -- the remote control isn't that great. It works fine and has nice tactile response but is hard to see in the dark because it's not backlit. it wouldn't have cost them much to have it be backlit for MUCH better use in dark rooms. I feel like Sony took a "penny wise, pound foolish" short-cut on this one. Other than that, it's great.

Great Value for a 4K

I have Sony's 2014 65" 4K in my living room and I was immediately hooked on 4K. So when purchasing my next TV I wanted to go larger and decided on a 75". I had read a lot about Sony's 2016 HDR and MotionFlow capabilities before purchasing and was excited for the new TV. Out of the box the TV was disappointing as the picture quality seemed to "stretch" on my DirecTV receiver. I plugged in a Blu-Ray 4K-upconverting player, however, and the picture was perfectly clear. I called DirecTV which had me do an equipment upgrade (they now offer 4K channels and are apparently expanding their line by the end of the year) which fixed the picture quality by a significant amount. However I do notice that when going from a 65" to a 75" the menu pixellates more as the picture seems to stretch to fit the larger screen--so unless you really want the extra 10" the 65" might be the better choice. Since the equipment upgrade from DirecTV, however, I have been watching almost exclusively on this TV as the motion particularly on sports and action movies has phenomenal detail and smooth motion. That and a good Bond movie...great TV and very happy with my purchase.

The Sony XBR 75 X850 has been great to watch in our livingroom. I read several complaints that the blacks are not as black as could be. I have noticed that in a completely dark room there is a slight light bleed in the edges. To be honest I would not have noticed it if I had not read about it and was looking for the bleed. In all other conditions the TV is very good. The colors are fantastic and there is no blurr when watching action scenes. The size of the tv is great and the picture with Direct tv is crystal clear. One other thing, is that I wish I had not purchased a sound bar at the same time. The sound is really good on the tv itself.

Fantastic size and picture, and the price was super. The 3D version was $1,000 more, which feature I never used anyway on my previous widescreen TV, so I didn't bother. Not much in the way of 4k content out there yet, but I'm ready when it arrives. In the meantime, I have a great picture in HD plus the upscaling and the "smart" features in this unit. There is a bit of a steep learning curve, but if one can operate a desktop computer or a smart phone, no big deal.

A good TV however you do get what you pay for. I was looking at different types of 75inch TVs in all price ranges and manufacturers so here is my review. I ended up with the Sony for the reason of better ability to handle sports/action at an affordable price. The picture quality is good with some minor clarity-sharpness issues and you will need to adjust the settings a lot to get the picture you would like. The fact that there is no local dimming does cause blacks not to be as deep as you would like but acceptable again for the price point and there is some picture loss with dark scenes due to a lessor contrast level. The LG 75inch model also has low contrast with local dimming but the picture quality still looked better on the Sony. The smart apps on the TV such Netflix, amazon, ultra, and YouTube work very well with no internet issues over a Wi-Fi network. The sound is average so use your own speaker system. I looked at the Samsung 75 JU7100 TV and the salespeople kept saying the Sony was better choice this year but it is hard to say without seeing that TV at home. The Bottom line is that if you are using your TV for cable television purposes the picture is not as clear and clean as the store images so keep that in mine. Also you do get what you pay for at a price at about $3299.00 this TV is good but if you want top line you need to pay $6000 or more for the Samsung or Sony 940D. The TV’s on the higher price scale have all the best upscale ability, contrast, and deep blacks needed for a great picture for both cable and 4k images. I did not want to spend the extra cash so don’t expect a great picture for a $3000 price tag it is not realistic and I guess Sony and Samsung want to provide the consumer with options so you do get what you pay for and you can be satisfied with this model. In conclusion I am rating this TV 3-Stars because it is good but not a 5-star level compared to the higher end TV’s. A sirloin steak is still a 3 compared to a filet.

If you own 55", go 75". If you have older TV, invest buying decent TV with newer tech that lasts you next 4 years. This is one of it. Upgraded from 6 years old smart TV to this. For me especially, extremely impressed with great performance of android TV and great signal receptions on the TV tuner. Researched for few months and pleased to purchase. Worth every penny I paid. Awesome picture, features and easy set up, still discovering new things. **Minor but if you are thinking to hook up old school devices, might upset you with horizontal RCA (pin jack) input prohibiting full flush after mounted to the wall.

We have only had this TV for less than a month, but it certainly appears to be living up to the positive reviews that I read before purchasing. It was delivered on-time and the initial set-up was basically simple. That being said, I want to fair and mention that we are using it to view cable television and Blu-ray and 4K DVDs, and for that usage, it is great. We have elderly family members in our household, and because of that, along with the large size of the family room, I wanted a large screen -- so screen size was a major reason for the purchase of this particular set. I also read many customer reviews and felt that, for the money, this would be the best set to consider. In reading some of the negative reviews, I noted that there were concerns about the screen response / refresh rate -- especially among individuals using this set for gaming. We are not going to be using the set for that purpose so I cannot speak to that concern other than to say that the picture is beautiful, the quality is excellent (so far), and we are very pleased with our purchase.

This television was one that I claimed to be a "splurge" for the house. Granted, most will see this TV as a small investment, I on the other hand, see this as a heavy investment and feel that I got every penny's worth out of it. This TV has excellent quality, particular with 4K content and video games. It's the perfect television for a man cave or living room. I do find that it is tricky determining optimal settings, even with the assistance of online forums and instructions. However, I don't doubt that this TV can deliver on quality.

This tv it is the best tv I ever had. I love that is so slim, although so big. Have a very clear picture, and great colors. Very easy to operate, and the remote control very well organized and simple to use. Wonderful and so lightweight to hang it on any wall.
