Could be so much better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I read the specs, I thought I'd found the perfect outdoor party speaker. 2 Tweeters, 2 mid-range X-balanced drivers and 2 passive radiators. It is a reasonable package, weighting in at 6.96 lbs. Don't get me wrong this speaker sounds great, turned all the way up the sound is crisp, un-muddled and decent bass; even without Mega bass. As soon as I got it I took it out to my pool. And played Boston's first album. The sound I was expecting to hear was there, but not like I was hoping for. There was no perceivable stereo separation. I was expecting to hear sounds from the right and left. The sounds were full and crisp with some low end presence, considering I was in a large outdoor space. I moved from left to right while the speaker was playing and I heard good consistent sound but not stereo. I moved to the other side of the pool, about 20' from the speaker, which was on a table about 2' off the ground. The sound was very good, turned up all the way there was no distortion, good. I engaged the mega bass and it did more than kick-up the bass, it modified the mid-range so the more booming bass was.... smoother; but honestly outdoors I don't think it "helped" the sound. I'm pretty sure in a enclosed space it would have a better effect (more on this later). Except for now realizing this speaker had dual drivers, but was a mono speaker, I did more listening. Foreplay-Long Time breezed in but the L/R separation had the initial low vocals getting somewhat lost. As the beat built, it was pleasant, easy to listen to, but at the transition to Long time I was again struggling to hear some of the subtleties. I attribute this to the complex R/L stereo mix of this track/album. The more I listened, and looked at the Sony Music Center app, the more I hoped to find the missing "Stereo" option. After further reading the only way to get Stereo is to connect 2 X-Series speakers. They also have a mode called Party-Connect that allows up to 100 X-Series speakers to be synchronized together - sounds interesting, if these Sony Speakers REALLY catch on (but in Party mode you again loose Stereo functionality). This speaker looks like a roll of paper towels that's been squeezed in the middle. Passive radiators are on each end of the speaker with LED lights surrounding the passive radiators. Even at night the led lights are pretty dim, not really illuminating anything. There are many programmable light flashing programs, none are "highly visible". This speaker claims to over 25 hours of playing time, it's chargeable via a USB-C connector, and you can add 7 hours of play time with only a 10 minute charge (and it can play while it's being charged). It also has a USB-A connector that can be used to charge your phone or other devices from the batteries inside the XG-300 (no specifications on the battery size, or amp size). One other neat feature it has is a microphone with echo-cancelation so you can take an incoming call on your phone and talk hands free (music is muted, when the call is answered). This worked very well, I could hear my caller clearly and they said I sounded very clear, they could not tell I was outside (well when the birds were quite)). I took the speaker inside to my family room (16x30). I listened to Pink Floyd Animals, the speaker had filled the room fairly well once it was off the floor. I again prefered the Mega-bass disabled, with Clear Audio enabled (there is also a Custom EQ, that allows you to set Bass, Mid and High emphasis) - I thought the Clear Audio did a good job on it's own. There are DJ effect settings and Bluetooth Quality connection setting in the Music Center App. The music center app allows you to access may popular streaming apps from it's control panel (a nice shortcut, but it missing SiriusXM, but Sirius can still output to the connected BT speaker). And you can set battery optimization options. There is another app called Fiestable than can customise sound or be used by multiple people/phones. The speaker does not have a USB input port to support a USB stick/disk as the previous version of this speaker had, but I'm sure that this has to do with the IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. I have to say I like this speaker, BUT it does not have all the functionality that my 80's boom box had, I really think it's too bad that it does not support stereo output on it's own. I think they missed a real opportunity. I can understand two small speakers needing to be paired for stereo output, but this speaker is plenty large (with multiple drivers) to have decent stereo separation. I have smaller smart speakers that support stereo output.

Good, Not Great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SRS-XG300 X-Series Wireless Portable-Bluetooth Party-Speaker is a good speaker, but not a great one. The RGB lights are nice. Sony's XG300 does sound good, but it seems to be lacking the bass I thought that a $350 Bluetooth Speaker from Sony would have more depth to its sound. The highs and mids sound great. There is no distortion that I've heard. There is a Mega Bass button, but I an not a fan of it. When used, the bass does cutout and everything is brightened up. The Sony Music app lets you control a lot. EQ, RGB lights, the functionality of the Mega Bass button itself, and more. I am not disappointed per say, just shocked that the bass in this speaker is only mediocre. Comparing it to some other notable Bluetooth speakers in the same price range or less, the Sony XG300 doesn't add up for me. If the price were around $250 I could see the value. Out of the box, the speaker sounds muffled. I had to adjust the EQ to enjoy the speaker. It does have volume though. I took it to the pool, and was able to hear it clearly from every angle. I was happy about that.

Posted .Hi DITGUY17,
Thank you for taking the time to review your SRS-XG300 speaker. We're glad you appreciate overall audio quality. We're also sorry to hear that it hasn't performed to your standards when it comes to the bass sound. The XG300 features 3 sound effects depending on your needs (STAMINA, EXTRA BASS, and LIVE SOUND). You may refer to this link for more information: https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xg300/v1/en/contents/TP1000669923.html
This function can also be adjusted on the Sony Music Center app. Additionally, there is a built-in EQ that has 20 points of control for Bass, Midrange, and Treble to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. You can also check the app that you are using (for audio) or your source device for sound settings and adjustment. The XG300 speaker is perfect for bringing a big sound to a portable party. Whether you’re at home or at the beach, park or poolside, this speaker will give you a great sound even at high volume, and will have enough battery life to keep going as long as you do. And, with a comfortable retractable handle, when you’re ready, just grab it and go. Thank you for sharing your feedback! -Jess

Overpriced and treble muffled
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The speaker design is great! Compact, love the folding handle, and the volume/power is great! Now the negative, the treble is muffled out of the box, also the bass is not that deep! Not worth $350, maybe $229..even using the app to adjust the treble, its not crispy, its has too much midrange in the treble, my soundcore motion boom plus blows this out of the water! Especially for $199! I got it for $140..Sony drops the ball again..(maybe its the fabric covering the speaker)…anyways its going back…

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I know this isn’t the most expensive speaker out there, but even so I was a little disappointed in the sound quality. The sound is very flat and hollow with very limited bass. There is a “Mega Bass” button, but I can barely tell a difference. The Bluetooth functionality is great, very quick and easy to set up although I haven’t tested the range. If Inhad to do it again, I’d save the money I spent on this speaker and put it toward a higher end one.

Okay, but could be better
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this as an exchange for a warranty replacement (JBL boombox) it’s not in the same class as that speaker. I will compare it to my JBL Xtreme 3. It doesn’t have a light to monitor battery life. There are three little lights (power,Bluetooth,&, megabass) and to find out the battery percentage, you have to pop open the back piece where you charge and press a button that says “Battery -Battery Care” . The vocals comes out muffled, and the sound is good for high drums, but so-so with low bass. I walked out of range to see how far I can go before it loses Bluetooth signal; and it’s about the same range as my Xtreme3. The problem is that the Bluetooth signal doesn’t pick back up, even if I turn off my phone’s Bluetooth, it takes the speaker a long time to power down. You have to press and hold the power button for about 30-50secs to reset, and for the speaker to reconnect Bluetooth. The party lights are giving overcompensating, it’s not Party box if you was DJ’ing for a party, You get what you pay for, and Sony needs to do a refresh on this particular model, simply would be key and better voice ohms and better bass would be best too.

Posted .Hi AmberD,
While we're glad that you like most of the features, we're so sorry if you find the speaker doesn't get very loud. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. To get the most out of the volume, turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.
• While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
• If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
1. Turn off the speaker.
2. Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.

Posted .Hi Annthrax,
Thank you for taking the time to review your XG300 speaker. We're so sorry it hasn't performed to your standards when it comes to battery life. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. The XG300 will give you 25 hours of play when the battery is fully charged, meaning a single charge should be long enough to power through any party.
Built-in battery life (while the speaker is not in Battery Care mode and a BLUETOOTH connection is established)
Approx. 25 hours: Volume level: 24, Sound: MEGA BASS on, Lighting: off
Approx. 15 hours (default): Volume level: 24, MEGA BASS on, Lighting: on
Approx. 5 hours: Volume level: 50 (MAX.), MEGA BASS on, Lighting: off
Approx. 4 hours: Volume level: 50 (MAX.), MEGA BASS on, Lighting: on
The built-in battery life above is measured using our specified music source. Actual performance time may vary from the listed time due to the volume, songs played, surrounding temperature, and usage conditions.
