A Return to Form for the Series

Soul Calibur VI makes a triumphant return to form with their latest entry in the series after a long, 6 year hiatus. There's a lot for people to enjoy here ranging from retuning veterans to newcomers. The roster includes returning long time favorites and even some new faces including Geralt from The Witcher series. The single player experience offers 2 single player campaigns in a style that only Soul Calibur can do. On top of that, creation creator makes a return and allows you to create your own fighter from the ground up. It is the easiest way for creative people to bring in some of their favorite characters from different games, comics, and anime, and pit them against Soul Calibur characters. The movement and animations are crisp and are brought into true next generation gameplay with great effects and movesets. Overall this should be a must buy for any fan of the series and a great starting point for any newcomer.

Classic Soul Calibur fan favorite characters are included with some great new additions. Controls have been made even smoother so combos and connecting combos is an art. Unlike the typical two-dimensional fighting games like Street Fighter, Injustice, and the like, knowing the opponents moves and crossing the plains is still an effective way to avoid strikes and win. The new slow-mode triggering is a fun way to mix the action up during a heated combat. Finally, the customizing characters is a blast because there are some many options. If you've never played a Soul Calibur game, this is a good one to pick-up. If you're a fan of the series, you owe it to yourself to grab a copy.

better than 5 but lacking a bit

It probably wouldn't have been to hard to include a team battle and survival mode. I would have liked a mode similar to Soul Calibur 3's soul arena. I wish that a mimic character and lizardman chief were playable. Lastly I am disappointed that the amount of custom armor pieces and race sliders is lacking. For example the outcast race has no fur, only two animal heads, only one set of animal ears and two tails. Also it is annoying that the lizardman race is male only. However soul chronicle is a pretty good story mode and libra of souls is a good single player campaign. I like the new additions in Groh and Azwel. While flawed I like the idea of races for the custom characters. Also I like that museum mode has returned. To conclude Soul Calibur 6 is better than 5 but maybe not better than 3.

One of the best fighting games in the series

This is perhaps the best console fighting game released by Bandai Namco in recent years. From improved graphics, enhanced gameplay dynamics, versatile character selection and customization to dynamic music, it achieves very high marks overall. The deluxe edition comes with a great game soundtrack CD, the season 1 pass and a steelbook with voiceovers. You can even download created characters from other users to use in some modes. I only wish they had separate endings for each Soul Calibur character in the arcade mode but that is a minor quibble considering all the game content including two story modes.

I have been a player of this series since it was introduced on the PSX as Soul Blade. As the actual 7th game in the series, this may have been the most important one to date. This was Bandai/Namco's one shot to keep the series alive. I believe that they succeeded. With the best look the game has ever had, the tight controls and the smooth weapon filled action, Soul Calibur VI bring the series back into the lime light and hits one out of the park. Definitely

I have been wanting a new soul caliber for years now and this game delivers. The combat is smooth and although I am not a big fan of create a character you have a lot of options and could spend hours in there if you chose to. I like the addition of cinematic moves similar to tekken 7 rage arts and I feel like I have only scratched the surface of what this game has to offer.

I enjoy Soulcalibur since the second game came it. SCVI is definitely a step up from V with gameplay, story and creation mode being a lot better this time.

It was thought that SoulCalibur might have been dead after V, but here we are. The combat is good, but the arenas could use more diversity and life to them. Also disappointed with the lack of intro video.

I wasn’t convinced that this game was enough different from its previous iterations but it adds a couple new moves and mechanics to the game that changes the dynamic and it’s super addicting. The single player is pretty bad so I wouldn’t recommend this if that’s what you’re interested in but if it’s solely for the purpose of competing with others online then I would highly recommend this game. I’ve play sf5, tekken, marvel, dbfz and none of those games grabbed me like sc6 did and boy was it a surprise for me to have enjoyed it to the extent I did.

The Soulcalibur series finally returns after a long absence, as it has been over 6 years since the previous installment. Soulcalibur VI feels like it may be one of the best in the series yet. SCVI offers character creation, a feature that is not present in most fighting games. This is one of the most interesting features of the game, and what you can create is only limited by your imagination. There is a decent amount of single player content present, but it isn't terribly exciting. The meat of this game, as with any fighting game, is in fighting against other players, and it does that very well.

I didn't buy this game for myself, I bought it for my wife. She absolutely loves Soul Calibur and I was more of a Mortal Kombat fan growing up. There's a good learning curve in the game, but coming from a similar fighting game it was easy to pick up and enjoy. However, my wife absolutely destroys me every other match...so I don't think I'm be playing online anytime soon haha.

Great entry in the Soul Calibur series. The Producer was questioning even green lighting this release. If this sells well, there may be a continued future for Soul Calibur. So far, this game is a ton of fun to play. Granted, it's not without problems because it hasn't had a true arcade release (since arcades are non-existent nowadays). The producer is patching it as time progresses. On a competitive level, it will take time before it's optimized, but it is headed in the right direction.

The last game was better. I don’t get how that has worse reviews than 6. Graphics are amazing but where is the rest of the game? Very few characters and such a small selection of stages. Also story mode? ( if you can call it that) is a horrible cheap mode where you see the same stages you just played when playing VS mode. Cheap, poorly done illustrations instead of well developed cutscenes. I’m bumping the review to two stars because the graphics and very few stages look really good. However is seems like the game was only thirty percent complete. The story is not well done and it seems like a last minute attempt to add something more. I do not recommend this to anyone. I bought this game because of the trailers and gameplay videos before release. It looked like it had so much to offer, but that’s all it is...LOOKS. Turns out the whole game is just those pre-release gameplay videos.

As always the case with the series, some players spam too much. I enjoy the challenge to try to beat them, but in general if you get frustrated easily this one’s got some hurdles online. Also - at this time finding matches still takes forever, and I have zero lag on Tekken and minimal wait times there - so something is still off.

Was very glad to see SC6 plays and feels closer to games like Soulcalibur 2 rather than Soulcalibur 5. I wish the game had a few more fighters but it has a ton of content to play through anyway. Highly recommend to fighting game fans.

Soul Calibur 6 is a good way to reintroduce the series on current gen consoles. While the visuals won't blow anyone away, the game still looks good and plays smoothly. It is also very easy to grasp even for an inexperienced player.

Very fun so far. Biggest issue they have right now are bugs and exploits. The online seems to be good, although they could certainly use some additional features that other fighters have implemented to keep waiting and load time down. I expect bugs to be fixed fairly quickly, so overall a good experience.

Soul Calibur 6 takes the better pieces from the previous 3 games but applies it to the way the game felt in SC and SC2. Really glad to be able to play the best 3D fighting game franchise on modern consoles.
