We've all seen those movies about the protagonist fighting (literally and figuratively) to win back their family. Though "Southpaw" does have this classic tale, the overall tone of the film is still charming. Jake Gyllenhaal convinces the audiences with a powerful performance, one that's up to par with other great dramatic actors. He's come a long way, and I feel that Gyllenhaal has made a great impression on us all, making him well deserved to be nominated (I hope) in the upcoming Oscar Awards for Best Actor.

I really enjoyed this film. After watching the trailer, it seemed like the whole plot of the film is given away, which it does. Yet, I didn't expect the emotional punch and journey the main character would take. For that, it makes the film great. Jake Gyllenhall puts on a wonderful performance as Billy Hope, a boxer who has everything until his anger literally changes his life over night. Southpaw is raw and brutal, providing bloody hard boxing that thrusts you right into the ring with Billy Hope.

This movie is a great story of a champion's fall from top, and his rise back to the top after he is literally stripped of everything he has. This movie shows why Jake Gyllenhall is one of the best actors of our time. He completely immerses himself into the role, he actually looks like he could be a light heavyweight. If you love a good boxing story this film is a must.

This is the story of a prize-fighter, Billy Hope, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. The drama unfolds after tragic events including the death of his wife, the loss of his daughter to Child Protective Services and abandonment by his trainer. When he acquires a new trainer Tick Willis played by Forest Whitaker, he tries to regain his life and status as a professional. Well acted by the entire cast. The film had a "Rocky" feel about it.

I was a little hesitant at first to check the movie out but I gave it a shot anyway, as it turned out that decision was a great idea. Jake Gyllenhaal and Forest Whitaker give outstanding performances here and make this movie a great watch. You don't have to be a boxing or even a sports fan to enjoy the movie... although if you are fans it will definitely make it more enjoyable.

Comparable to Rocky and Creed movies but more realistic story line with surprising love story and satisfying personal transformation of character through heartbreaking challenges. I was not used the the crass language at the beginning and found that my patience paid off when it's purpose was revealed.

Jake Gyllenhaal portrays a top boxing contender, Billy Hope. His physical transformation from his last movie, Night Crawler, to Southpaw was tremendous. His struggles as a boxer, father, and husband to Rachal McAdams character was heartfelt. Plus cast of 50 Cent and Forest Whittaker, must get this film!

This movie is a true follower of the old genre of boxing movies by providing more realistic boxing touches within the ring and training outside the ring with some modern twists on the down and out boxer trying to redeem himself through the ring. It was interesting, fast paced, and a little bloody.

This is the Rocky of our generation. The movie boasts an all star cast with great performances. Jake Gyllenhal's transformation to a boxer is amazing, you can tell he put so much work into this film. The story is also very emotional, it grabs you and does not let you go until the end. Picture and sound is also top notch, I highly recommend this blu ray movie.

This is a good action packed drama. It shows clearly how some things can just happen in life and the consequences of our action and shows heartfelt lessons to be learned. Good acting and story line. A movie surely worth looking at and worth the purchase price.

The special packaging Steelbook edition of Southpaw is a great addition to anyone's growing Steelbook collection. It has a high glossy finish which really makes the two images (front and back) of Gyllenhaal pop! It's also a great movie with plenty of suspense, action, and boxing!

It's a little formulaic and honestly, you could probably skip the entire movie if you just watched the trailer, but I still like it. There's an underdog tale and pretty good acting, so I can't complain. I enjoyed this movie despite some of the obvious turns it took.

My brother purchased this movie as we were shopping together on a Monday. Well on the weekend we watchedbit and I absolutely loved it. Such a great moral to life as a husband/wife as a father/mother but truely as a person that you don't know what you have till it's gone!!

Jake gyllenhaal continues to amaze me with his acting skills! At first I didn't think he could pull off the role of a boxer but he does a amazing job. The movies story line started out to be a bit cliche but soon took on a role of its own making this a exceptional film.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal gives an epic performance in this boxer tale of glory , despair and redemption. A serious look at the determination of pride , family love and battle both physical and spiritual. Rachel McAdams also adds strength to the journey. Oscar level.

It was so easy and convenient to order online. My product came in a short amount of time and was in perfect condition. Great movie if you haven't seen Southpaw. Definitely a tear jerker. I love the relationship between the couple and the love for their daughter.

I had originally seen this in theaters, and it was definitely a great purchase. Jake Gyllenhal played a great role, and the supporting cast from 50 cent to Forest Whitaker also did very well. Similar in feel to a Rocky Balboa movie. but more grounded in a sense.

I love boxing movies. This is a great movie!! Yes there are some predictable parts but the raw script and highly talented actors came together beautifully. Jake Gyllnehal is a serious method actor.. Totally believable as a raw boxer from the streets. Great Movie!!

This movie is by far one of Jake Gyllenhaal's best movies! The drama and epic up and downs really help understand the life of a boxer and the toll it can take. I have watched this multiple times since I purchased this movie and will probably watch it a lot more.

One of the best movies I've seen this year. I can relate with the love of a child making a man want to clean up his life to be the best him. When he lost everything it kind of portrayed real life for some boxers, football players, & basketball players.
