It is semitransparent so you can see the Apple logo when the machine is on. One word of caution: Wear gloves when you put this on the computer. I didn't and found I could see my fingerprints I left on the inside of the cover. I had to remove the case to clean them off and removing this case is not easy.

very pleased with case for laptop

The retina display is a nice quality and I have had no issues with this laptop. I recently purchased the shell case for this product and I am very pleased with it as well. I am very happy with both my purchases and would recommend either if them to family it friends!

I really don't get many fingerprints on it either, so win. It's a good fit too.
