"Spotlight," based on the journalism of the Boston Globe in investigating child abuse (and the subsequent cover-up) by the Catholic Church richly deserved the Oscar for Best Picture. Low key direction by Tom McCarthy and terrific performances by a great cast (led by Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo, and Liev Schreiber) tackle a difficult subject in a respectful manner that clearly demonstrates the vital importance of investigative journalism. The only problem with the blu-ray are the fairly paltry extras, but well worth a purchase on the strength of the film.

Wonderful, just friggin wonderful. And, it would have been wonderful even if my dad was not so unfortunate to have been in the infamous seminary in Boston, where very bad things happened for decades. It's very clean - in no way violates itself by succumbing to morbid curiosity. It tells the story of the Boston Globe, the journalism, how they got to the truth. I loved it. No wonder it won the Academy Award for best picture - without a gunshot, without a car chase, with NO violence whatsoever. This is what movies should be. This is us, human beings, at our best.

I had seen this movie at a theater but bought the blue ray, so my husband could see it. Not only was the story engrossing, the acting was excellent. Based on the true story of how reporters from the Boston Globe broke the news about how more than 100 Catholic priests in the area had been sexually abusing children and young adults for decades and how the church was not only covering it up but was moving the offending priests from parish to parish and quietly paying small settlements to their victims. This movie is a "must see."

Spotlight is an important film. It sheds light on the controversy and events surrounding the Boston Globe's investigation into molestation charges in the Catholic Church. It wholly respects the victims involved with the event while also detailing it for those who were not there to witness it. It features powerhouse performances from all involved (especially Mark Ruffalo) and the writing and directing is tight and chilling. It's a movie everyone needs to see, and well worthy of it's best picture win.

Spotlight is one amazing and excellent film, in fact the best of 2015. A group of newspaper journalists are working to uncover the story around priests and the allegations of said priests having improper relationships with children. This film is masterclass directing by Tom McCarthy with an excellent script by McCarthy and Josh Singer. Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, and Michael Keaton all give moving performances. This was worth seeing in the theater and still is great to watch on Blu-Ray.

I saw this movie in the theatre when it came out and couldn't wait to see it again. It was just as good the second time around. Buying the DVD means I have this daring, brilliantly acted/researched gem on hand to view all the time. In these crazy times, the knowledge that there are brilliant, determined, intelligent journalists out there ready to call out even the most hallowed institutions, is forever reassuring. The new "All The President's Men" for our times.

Ever since the first time I saw the trailer of this movie, I had been waiting to see it. Unfortunately, it was another limited release until it won the Oscar, so I had to find a theater that showed it and purposely drive there to catch it before it was gone. All the effort was well worth it, and watched it again in the theater after it got the Best Picture and re-released. Truly hope the studios learn their lessons that no only superheroes and/or sequels make money.

This movie brings focus what took place and what I believe is still taking place. It's disturbing and alarming especially for those who are not aware of things like this that went on in the Catholic system Church. For those who are indisbelief this movie invites you to question why priest are moved from parishes to parishes and the coverup for those priests who had prey upon young impressionable children. I think it's worth the time wether you're Catholic or not -

Spotlight is a gripping true life drama. It's the story of the investigative team of reporters (lead by Pittsburgh's own Michael Keaton) who uncover the scandal that rocked the Catholic Church. It exposes the cover-up by church leaders and the blind eye turned to the problem by others because they didn't want to believe it or were pressured to stay silent. In most instances the victims were of the least concern. Its a shocking commentary on power, money and corruption. The film is a linear straight forward affair that pulls no punches in the telling.A well acted, well made film that uses its 2 hour running time expertly. You will never be bored.

This is a strong film about a really tough topic. I cannot say I was wanting to watch this, but some students encouraged me to see it. I am very glad they suggested it. It is a powerful story about journalistic storytelling. It is also a sad commentary on the hierarchy of the Catholic Church's poor response to clergy abuse, as well as a reminder that we all have to be vigilant in holding our authority figures accountable for their actions.

Spotlight is actually 2 stories in one. First, there's the story of child abuse by Roman Catholic clergy in the Boston Diocese and the ensuing cover-up. Second, there's the story of how investigative journalism is done and can make a difference in a community. Either one of these stories is compelling on its own. Together, they form a remarkable tapestry woven by an ensemble cast into the Oscar winner for Best Picture of 2015.

The analogy I like to use about this movie is it's much like the Passion of the Christ. It's not fun to watch. You won't be eating popcorn, but it's important to see it and then not forget what you saw. It's terrible whats happened/happening to children all over this country at the hands of abusers (clergy or not), and i'm thankful people did the hard work to investigate it, but more importantly, to help fight it.

With a star studded cast and excellent performances throughout, this DVD will not disappoint. A must see in order to really understand the investigation that shocked the world. Beware of the fact that you will never be able to look at the Catholic Church as you did before seeing this film. You may think you know the Spotlight story but this movie shines in pointing out the details you missed in the media.

While not a classic film, "Spotlight" is nevertheless a very good one that takes on an important topic while doing so in an entertaining manner. Made in the vein of "All the President's Men" it lacks the nail biting intensity of the earlier work but is suspenseful in its own right. It proves that Hollywood can make important films that need not be relegated to Art Theaters but can find a wider audience.

Voted Best Picture at this year's Oscars for 2015, expect a taut procedural mixed together with a journalistic expose of the Catholic Church cover up of predator priests in the Boston area. It is a true story where some of the real journalists and their associates populate the newsroom as background to the principal players. Many consider it the best representation to date of print journalism.

All the Catholic priests jokes you've ever heard in your life have an origin story, and it starts right here. Ever since Michael Keaton's resurgence in Birdman you're guaranteed a great film or performance (see Spiderman Homecoming)...the cast in this film is outstanding. Definitely an eye opener if you've only just "heard" of negative Catholic news. Worth a buy.

The story is told with a wonderful understanding of all parties-through the eyes of the reporters with their deep feelings and understandings-It is the way the story should be shown with truth, sadness and understanding-it is a truthfully calm understanding of one of the low points of the Catholic church and opens your eyes as the reporters unearth the facts which haunt everybody's faith today

Saw this movie in the theater before buying the blu-ray. It was easily the best movie I've seen in the past few years. It's the true story of how a newspaper team took a step-by-step approach to uncovering a massive scandal involving pedophile priests in the Boston area and those who were complicit in the scandal. Absolutely fascinating, engrossing and shocking. Superbly done.

This movie takes place in Boston, (where I grew up) so was particularly interesting to me. In fact, I personally knew a couple of the clergy mentioned in the movie as well as a church mentioned (I was married in that church). The movie was totally accurate in every respect. A really excellent movie which also received the Oscar for best movie of the year.
