Admittedly, I have never really had a fascination with Star Trek growing up. Most episode of Next Generation seemed pretty slow and too esoteric for me to really jump into it. It wasn't until the 2009 reboot by J.J. Abrams that I found genuine interest in the franchise. Since then, Justin Lin has taken over and I must say this train is running pretty well and Star Trek Beyond is a solid addition. I didn't see this in the theater so and purchased the movie in 4K. Regarding the actually video quality I though it was "good" but the cinematography didn't have the glossy crisp look like JJ's previous 2 which I was a fan of. The colors are a little more on the flat side but the story and characters are engaging enough to make that a nitpick. I would say this is a good one to purchase if you are a completest and a little more than passively enjoy this movie series.

Good Action Movie, A Bit Beyond Believable

As a Star Trek fan, I wasn't really looking forward to the Star Trek Beyond movie enough to see it in theaters. The reboot franchise is not as much Trek as it is Action/Adventure. Not that that is bad, but it is missing the soul of Trek. There is no real message or intriguing scifi story. I would classify it as Science Fantasy. Yet the story has some compelling aspects and if you leave your brain at the door, the action and story will draw you in. Crazy action, great stunts, seamless special effects and a very capable soundtrack and audio mix is nothing to snuff at. It's all great! I viewed the HD blu-ray (no UHD player yet) and saw no really obvious flaws in the transfer nor any grips in the audio track. The disc and case came shipped in a very satisfactory packaging and arrived quickly and without any damage. I would recommend the movie and Best Buy for the purchase experience.

Star Trek Beyond is a 2016 American science fiction adventure film directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, based on the series Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry. It is the thirteenth film in the Star Trek film franchise and the third installment in the reboot series, following Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock, with Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin reprising their roles from the previous films. Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella also join the cast.

Fantastic movie to see in a high def, blu ray, or any format for that matter. I viewed the blu ray version disc on my fantastic Samsung 55 inch LED smart 4K ultra HD tv (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-silver/5034800.p?skuId=5034800&cmp=RMX). Highly recommend. Important note: This DVD combo comes with a 4K ultra HD disc and standard blu ray disc. I was told by more than one Best Buy in store associate that the 4K disc would play on a blu ray player. They were absolutely wrong because it does not. It requires an actual 4K player.

Star Trek in HDR is Awesome

Clearly this movie got great reviews from critics much more qualified than me, so there isn't anything I can add in that regard. However, I want to comment about the HDR experience. The colors burst from the screen and the blacks are amazing in contrast. I was skeptical about HDR before this movie...Not anymore. Finally, those of you shopping online only are missing a great experience at your local Best Buy! You get the insight of a knowledgeable person and you get to experience new products in a way that is impossible online. More importantly, you support your local community.

I didn't get to see this in theaters, but took a chance and pre-ordered it from Best Buy. I was not disappointed! I am a huge Star Trek fan, so I wanted to add this to my 4K collection. I already watched it twice in one week. Watching the characters traverse through Yorktown starbase in Ultra HD is very cool. The details and colors provide one heck of an eye-popping, action-packed experience. I recommend this should be on any Trekkie's list to purchase this holiday season (or "Beyond"). Go for the 4K if you have the gear (TV and player), you won't be disappointed!

Forces us to choose between 3D and 4K

I don't like how they sell a 4K and a 3D in separate packages and ask us to buy 2 Blu Rays and 2 digital downloads if we want a 3D and a 4K copy. Also why are digitals included? It just increases the prices on people who don't have enough bandwidth to use the digital copy. We go to Best Buy because we don't have enough bandwidth to enjoy download movies. I'd rather have 4K + 3D than either 3D or 4K + digital. Otherwise the movie is more along the line of the more Action-based Star Treks Abrahms started, even more so than when Abrahms was directing. first 15 minutes was boring but is important for the end. Not as deep thinking as the TV series episodes.

The movie is one of if not the best Star Trek movie out of the new trilogy. I think they are all great though. the UHD 4K provides a great picture. Im still seeing some issues that is apparent in other 4k movies as well. Sometimes blacks seems washed out or "greyed out" also, for some reason, once again, hollywood tends to release 2k or 3k movies then adjust for 4k. There are very few actual native 4k UHD movies out there. Overall the picture quality is great especially in all the parts that are CGI.

In this third installments of the rebooted Star Trek franchise, the director took it to a whole new level. The cinematography is so different from the first 2 versions, where the director uses a lot of back light to create the dramatic and tense experience. In this installment, the new director uses various angles and camera movements to create a whole new experience that sets it apart from the first 2. The dialog is smart and heart warming. It's an experience that I would enjoy it over and over.

One heck of a 5 year mission!

This is a continuation of the original 5 year mission and the acting is very good. Special effects are top notch as well. Tons of action and the story holds true to the TV show, with villains, heroes and lots of extras...plus an end to civilization as we know it! What more could you ask for? Well, maybe quit wrecking the space ship would be the first priority, but they seem to be a dime a dozen. Good SiFi and lots of extras on the Blue Ray version.

We enjoy watching the first two Star Trek movies of this trilogy and were eager to watch the third movie. We were surprised at the story of the movie, a good surprise. It kept us interested and entertained. Great story, and the actors were fantastic. We highly recommend adding this movie to complete the trilogy.

This is by far the best 4k+Atmos experience out of the 3 movies. The picture is exceptionally crisp, but the real standout out is the Atmos soundtrack. The overhead speakers get a nice workout through the movie. Particularly during the chase through the crashed ship. The hull of the Enterprise creaks all around you and is very fluid and seemless making you feel like your house is falling apart around you. Fantastic experience.

While the movie isn't really my favorite (and it's certainly the worst in the new Star Trek series), it IS my go-to movie for showing off my new OLED 4K TV. The image is pristine. Tons of great scan and pan shots that showcase how great my display looks. Audio is stellar too. Well worth it for just these reasons. But, if you're not looking for a 4K showcase, go check out the first movie in the series. It's a ton of fun!

    Fun Star Trek Film

Overall, a very fun and entertaining Star Trek film. Does not compare to the first two films " Star Trek" and "Star Trek into Darkness". However, don't think that this film is a bad one. Some good action moments and good character development. Picture quality regarding the HDR is good. I did not notice any washed out blacks which is a positive in a space film. There could have been some crushing but it didn't bother me. There were a few moments of HDR highlights but they didn't blow me away.
