The franchise scores a hat rick with its third instalment in the Star Trek series with 'Beyond'. The crew of the Enterprise take us on another great adventure, filled with fun, laughs, thrills, and more of the characters we've grown to love. Not since Back to the future (and maybe The Matrix), has a trilogy been so perfect in its story arc and so much fun to experience.

The movie itself is great. The Bluray itself - color and sound is excellent. Less Ad or bloat content. However, my bluray case, metal and plastic is broken. See picture.

It took two tries and a new director, but we finally got the Star Trek we've been waiting for. It's clear that director Justin Lin, and writers Simon Pegg and Doug Jung did their deep dive homework, and their love for the show, its characters, and tropes shows up in nearly every scene. You could fill a basket with the Easter Eggs sprinkled around, too- everything from Picard's Stargazer to a 'giant green hand' are peppered in the story. The action is fierce, and a little overwhelming at times. Scenes shoot by so fast during the takedown of the Enterprise that a second viewing is needed to see who did what and where. That's where the Blu Ray will come in- you'll be able to catch those other little moments that fly past almost too quickly to catch. The quieter scenes are where this movie really shines- especially the interaction between the irascible McCoy, and the relentlessly logical Spock. McCoy finally gets some great moments, and he'll be able to add a few more things to his "I'm a doctor, not a [insert thing here]" checklist. The new character introduced to the crew, Jaylah, also shines, and steals every scene she's in. And Anton Yelchin also shines in his final performance as Chekov. The movie is dedicated to both him and the late Leonard Nimoy. Some have said that this movie is a television episode wrought large- and it is- in a good way. We see the roots of what Star Trek is, see the fantastic Yorktown starbase (which should show up again somewhere in the Trekverse- it's too awesome to be a one-shot!), see our familiar characters in some unfamiliar ways, and deal with a bad guy whose motives are heartbreakingly revealed in the climax. The movie also honors the passing of Leonard Nimoy in a sensitive, heartfelt way.

Im a film collector and own just about every film that gets released. We watch all films on a 180" screen in either 1080p or 4k! I even purchase films that are already available on Hulu, Netflix, & Amazon Prime as I am able to upscale them to almost perfect 4k resolution from 1080p. This is something I cannot do streaming. I say that because streaming in 4k is a HUGE data waste! I use just under 1TB in downloads a month at 1080p. 4k is not pheasable on even the best plans unless you only watch a couple films a month. 'Star Trek Beyond' wasn't a whim purchase, every week I buy films at BestBuy and this particular film I bought ON release day! This film fits my criteria for paying release day prices. With that said I was a bit disappointed the 1st time I watched it... However that was in 2d and I was trying to get used to a different directors take on the new Star Trek Universe. I still applaud JJ Abrams on the 1st and especially the 2nd.. So what do I do..... As a collector I decided to watch all the special features minus the commentary and finally switched over to watching the film in 3D. Okay, 3D on a 180" screen sitting in a recliner is actually equal to sitting in an IMAX theater! The immersiveness of the 3D really made this film shine. The work changed the film.. Its like watching Avatar in 2d, then you go back in and watch it in 3d and your eyes are opened. 3D is contraversal for so many reasons. My wife cant watch 3d at all. I love 3d. Its the difference between watching a film and being a part of the film! I love the latter! Its a high budget, fun film with an OK story line...

It Might Be The Best Star Trek Reboot Film (Maybe)

This movie is basically like an episode of TOS made into a film. It's a self-contained adventure where the Trek crew find themselves stranded on an unknown world. In that way, it's actually a bit different from the two prior films which had more of a "universe in peril" feel. The stakes seem lower here, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's more fun than Into Darkness for one thing. Personally, I'm not sure if it's better than the 2009 film that spawned the franchise. While that one felt like a more grand adventure, and had maybe a slightly more developed villain (though not by much), this film feels more true to the spirit and characters of TOS. At least, more than the other two films. I would say that it's good, but not great. It feels like there's a lot of potential there is just brushed by. We get glimpses into the villain's history, and motivation, but nothing more. The same is true for the planet the crew is stranded on. I suppose that might not be a problem if you're just there for the journey and don't care about that sort of thing, but I was personally left wanting more. Anyway, it's a good film regardless. And the opening scene has some of the best comedy out of the three films in the (for now) trilogy. So even if you're just a casual Star Trek or sci-fi fan you'll probably find a lot to like here.

It's a beautiful but functional steel book case, with all of the special features and such you would expect from this kind of sale. The fact that Best Buy is the only one (MOSTLY, anyway) putting these out makes them hard to get, but... I was impressed. As for the movie, I really did enjoy it. No, I do not feel as if it was any sort of box-office or Emmy Award-Winning event, but it was a FUN movie to be sure. Three years into their five-year mission, the Enterprise is back for a refill/refit when, as usual, they are the only ship in the area to go on a mission of vital importance. A mission that, as it turns out, will directly effect not only the sector, but Starfleet and the Federation themselves. With some nice inserts into such things as the death of Leonard Nimoy, the new concept that Sulu is gay (and while I do not have feelings one way or the other on them doing it, it was done without being pushy, so I am at least happy with that part), and even the fact that the series lasted three seasons (three years of the five-year mission, in effect), I really do think it was a good movie, despite the fact that (from what I'm told) it was a flop. Give it a chance on its own merit, the movie is well done. And the casing is even better still. So... recommended by this geek, anyway!

Really Great Return to "Classic Trek"

This review comes from a lifelong trek fan... I grew up with TOS reruns and enjoyed the first runs of Next Generation thru Voyager... (I was a little late to the Enterprise series, but dug it as well...) And while I enjoyed the JJ Trek movies as pure sci-fi action spectacles, they never really felt like true Star Trek. Star Trek's fantastic alien designs, world-building, and future concepts hooked me as a youngling, but the characters really add to the "rewatch-ability" factor... For me, the charm was always in how the characters interacted and relied on each other's unique strengths and viewpoints. Now that the rebooted movie franchise has been established, I believe that they've been allowed to showcase those relationships and this movie is, pardon the pun, lightyears beyond the previous two films! ;-) I'm so glad to own the Steelbook blu-ray. The vibrant cover art is just wonderful as it echoes the original Star trek Motion Picture. Highly recommended-- And May the Force Be With... er, ummm -- Live Long and Prosper!

I'm a big fan of J. J. Abrams movies & shows, so of course I was gonna watch this movie. That, on top of the fact that I watched and bought the first two movies. So yeah, buying part three was kinda obvious. Lol. ...I loved the emotion that each actor poured into their role, and the intensity that they portrayed in those high impact moments. ...Even though I've never been a Beastie Boys fan, I've always been aware of their song called 'Sabotage', and I've always hated it. But honestly, it was placed in this movie so well, that I ended up jamming to it. I don't know of any other song that would have been better for what they used it for. I'm sitting here now, thinking about watching it again. Lol. ...An my boy Idris Elba played his role beautifully!! He had me convinced he was an alien, because he immersed himself so completely in his part. He's one of my top favorite actors that can pull off ANY role, whether its a drama, action, suspense, etc. ...Would I recommend this movie, as well as Star Trek 1 & 2?? ABSOLUTELY!!! Without a doubt!!

    Throwback to classic original series

Star Trek Beyond does something the last two Star Trek films didn't do while trying to build up the new saga — it actually puts the crew on a strange alien world, which was part of the five year mission the Enterprise was on during the original series. That the film strands the characters on a strange world and forces them to face this new fear, rather than have Starfleet backing them up, gives Star Trek Beyond the ability to go back to the roots of the series. The cast is excellent, with Karl Urban's McCoy still getting most of the laughs. Idris Elba makes for a compelling villain, even when completely unrecognizable under layers of makeup. Sofia Boutella provides an exciting heroine who isn't seduced by Kirk like most of the alien women on the show were. The special effects are visually stunning, the action sequences creative, and the direction by Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin holds up to JJ Abrahms work on the first two films. Great for sci-fi fans and action fans.

If you haven't seen the latest iteration of the Star Trek gang's venture out into space, get ready for one of the best roller coaster rides of good science fiction. The crew once again follows James T. Kirk on the five-year mission of discovery only to encounter an attractive alien in need of rescue. Or does she need help. Don't want to spoil it for you but from this point on the big coaster drops and twists await as the ride picks up speed unimagined. What the Enterprise & crew run into is quick thrills and unusual chills with a surprise ending that will make you drop your popcorn and sit up in your seats shouting, "I didn't see that coming!" Pow in the last 10 minutes and you're ringing with sweat when the ride is over. Thanks Bad Robot Productions for an epic ride on the journey of the Enterprise! Whew. The Blu ray doesn't disappoint, capturing "in-your-face" action and a whooping soundtrack that will task your speakers. Worth the price, worth the fun, worth the cheer.

I don't know where to begin. In this case I'll start by saying I've never liked Star Trek. I love the actors that are in this new re/boot so I got the other two films prior to this one at the same time I got this Star Trek Beyond... I know nothing about Star Trek but again, figured this cast was a no Rainer. So I'll say IT WAS EXCELLENT! I didn't feel like I needed Star Trek back story knowledge. The film is for the modern consumer in that way. It is Action packed, it's far from the nerdy vibe of the older films. I'm going to say I think, this is the best movie I've seen in all of 2015-2016! I bought a few as early gifts. EVERYTHING about this movie was fun, action, comedy, drama and visually breathtaking. Not since AVATAR have I been so visually impressed. In a rash of superhero movies this was BEYOND a breath of fresh air!
