Stargate is a very good sci-fi action movie. The story involves an ancient alien device (the Stargate) used to travel to other worlds. A special forces team is sent through the Stargate on a recon mission. They come out of the gate on a world dominated by an alien calling himself 'Ra' after the Egyptian Sun God. The story is well thought out and works with Egyptian mythology very effectively. If you are thinking this is another cerebreal science fiction movie, think again. Stargate features some exciting action scenes and a host of fine visual effects that still hold up (impressive when you consider this movie is more than 10 years old). Stargate's main contribution to the sci-fi world is that it was the basis for the TV series Stargate SG-1. While the cast in the movie was good, the TV series cast was better. Kurt Russel did a good job as Col. O' Neill in the movie, but Richard Dean Anderson (TV series) gave the character more depth. The extras are kind of skimpy, I would have liked a featurette on the possible physics behind the Stargate. And there are a few very minor source material problems here and there. All in all, this is a much better than average sci-fi movie. If you are curious about Stargate, this is the starting point.

The Stargate movie features Kurt Russell As U.S. Airforce Colonel Jack O’Neil, James Spader As Archaeologist And linguist Dr. Daniel Jackson, Jaye Davidson as Ra, Alexis Cruz As Skaara, Mili Avital As Shauri, Eric Avari As Kasuf,And Viveca LAndfors As Dr. Catherine Langford etc.. The character of Dr. Daniel Jackson is helping Jack O’Neil and other members of his groups towards a mission that they unexpectedly find trouble at first returning back to their preferred destination. What complicates matters is that the group ends up having little choice to help a group of people who are enslaved by a charismatic but evil ruler. One of the members unexpectedly develops romantic feelings for one of the locals which indirectly shape multiple plots of the movie.

Liked the movie very much since I seen it in the theatres so I had no get it on blue ray, picture looks good and also sounds great (wich you expect from a blue ray) I only found a problem with the disc itself depending on what version you end up getting, at first I got the one that advertised it had NEW AND EXTENDED FEATURES wich when you get to the main menu it works GREAT the only problem with this version is that at a certain point in the movie the image freezes and the sound sets off for a couple of minutes. I had to exchange the movie THREE times and all of them had the same PROBLEM, until I got what I will call the OLD VERSION this one doesn't have the problem mentioned before but the main menu is really CHEAP if you compare it with tha new one and if you decide you want to go for the main menu while you're watching the movie forget about going back it will freez on you and you have to stop it all together. So you either settle for watching the movie without deffects (wich I did) or you go for the great features but with a DEFFECTIVE DISC.

I had not seen this movie for quite a long time and just picked it up the other day during the Black Friday sales. By far this is the best sounding and looking version of the film that I have seen. Even though this is an older movie Blu-ray brings it back to life as if it was new. The visual effects do seem a little dated at times but overall this is still one of my favorite films made even better on this blu-ray disc.

The high definition video and 5.1 surround sound were excellent. The extended cut scenes added worthwhile details to the story. Great Blu-ray deal for $9.99 sale price. I rate Stargate 5 stars for engaging Sci-Fi entertainment. The DVD extras should have included the contents of the film's pre-release CD, which I still have, however, the CD will not work on a PC with a current OS. The DVD extras producer and director commentaries were interesting.

One of the Best Blue Ray transfers. Exceptionally clean video and audio. Plays best with DTS audio; PS3 display (with firmware 2.35) indicates DTS HD has more than double the audio resolution of the Dolby track. Excellent story line. Very high production values. Lack of any extras is disappointing, but what you get is of the highest quality. Would be easy 5-star rating if it had extras. If you like the film and have the SD version, don't hesitate to get the BD version. The improvement in both video and audio playback is substantial - even over good upscaling. Highly Recommended

I owned this movie on VHS and upgraded to DVD. I was so happy when I found out it came out on Blu Ray. Great movie and it deserves all of it's HD greatness. I recommend everyone to add this to their collection of Blu Ray movies. The Best Buy price is more reasonable than other stores as well.

This is a really good movie that I found stayed with me after watching it. Acting by James Spader is especially good. When you see this movie you will understand why they decided to make a TV series based upon it, complete with its' own spinoff, 'Stargate Atlantis'.

Hard not to like what spawned the series SG1. Whenever I go back and watch my SG1s I have to watch the movie first. Now i have it on BluRay instead of a dual sided DVD that you have to flip halfway through.....Yes I actually still have some of those.

This movie was and always has been great. It spawned The longest running Sci-Fi series to date. I suggest picking up the Stargate SG-1 series if you liked the movie. This Blu-Ray was much better then the previous. Highly Recommended!

I review movies for a local TV station & "Stargate" got all 4 stars from me (an avowed sci-fi fan) in 1994! I bought this Blu-Ray from the $7.99 bin at Best Buy & watched it. Kurt Russell is just as intense as he has been in later films & the special effects hold up well after 20 years!

I have purchased earlier versions of Stargate, this one is by far the beat as far as video quality. Also this disk has the director's cut and theatrical version to choose from.

This is a great movie to watch on blu-ray. It was really popular when it was released in theaters and it's great to have it now on blu-ray. It's a unique movie and enjoyable ride. Recommend.

I've always loved this movie since I have always had an interest in Egyptology. Putting a sci-fi twist on it really helped to bring this movie home for me. I highly recommend it!

I loved this movie in college, and was glad to find it on Blue Ray at my local Best Buy. This was a movie without too much slack.

This is such a cool movie to have on blu-ray. Kurt Russell is a great actor.

Watch this movie if you are a scifi fan!! Awesome story line with plenty of action!! There should have been a motion picture sequel before the tv series!

'Stargate' is one of those movies that had incredible potential to be outstanding, but for some reason turned out to be just ok. This is decent entertainment, and is worth a viewing, but purchasing this film is probably for big fans only. Good transfer and extras, but not as much material is offered as on the special edition dvd that was released back around 2000.

Movie is perfect HD quality, good price and it helps lead you into the TV series if one wishes.

Best Quality transfer to Blu-Ray yet of extended ed.
