|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm old enough to say the first video game I played was Pong. The home version came out for Christmas back in 1975 through Sears. Boy has time changed things quite a bit since then. Starlink: Battle for Atlas is an open-world space saga that features modular toy technology that allows players to assemble and customize real-world physical starships, link the starships to their game controller, and launch into an epic adventure across the Atlas star system, either in single player or with a friend in two-player split-screen local co-op mode. It is available on the Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. To get started with Starlink: Battle for Atlas, you purchase a platform-specific starter edition. In addition to the game, you get a spaceship that can connect to your gaming controller as well as a couple possible pilots and some weapons. Who and what is connected to your controller has a real effect on what is shown in the gaming screen. In addition to the starter edition hardware, you can purchase additional startship packs which have other space ships and additional pilot and weapons packages which allow you to add more abilities and powers to the game. All of these attach through a set of connectors so the game can detect what it should show on the screen. If you look at the attached picture, you'll see a connector on the back of the different elements which fit into a slot like the one on the controller up top. The pilot will sit inside the cockpit while the two weapons will sit on top of the plane. The wings are even interchangable, too, if you like the wings from one spaceship and the body from another. Once the spaceship is configured as desired, you're ready for exploration in the game. The world your child plays within in Starlink is an open world with an enormous amount of areas to explore. The environment is rated E for everyone, with a target market of roughly 8-11, so it is a safe place for them to explore, and not a kiddie environment, so they feel more "grown up" playing the game, though without any blood and guts spread around with all the shooting. And, you always have a marker in the game to help tell you where you can go explore to fight the dreaded legion. They'll enjoy the puzzles to solve and the interplanetary quests. While the Switch starter kit comes with a Fox McCloud pilot, Arwing ship, and an exclusive mission, part of the enjoyment of playing Starlink: Battle for Atlas is the ability to swap out your weapons, wings, and pilots to create all kinds of interesting contraptions, even placing elements backwards or upside-down. The ability to do all this swapping does add to the overall cost of playing, but you can spread out that cost over time and not get everything at once. My eleven year old is probably at the upper age really for playing. Starlink is still fun for him, but at least for now, Fortnite keeps his interest more due to its online cooperative game play. There is a cooperative mode with Starlink, but players must be in the room together playing splitscreen vs. being online. I'll have to wait and see how much his friends want to play together when they visit. Surely a fun game to entertain, especially for someone with an interest in space and rockets.

Addictive game with fun space combat
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really love this game. The space combat is excellent and better than any space combat I've ever experienced in any other game. It really does a great job making you feel like you're engaging in real dog fights with a bunch of craziness going on all around you. The game is visually stunning and the exploration is really enjoyable. There is a lot of freedom and I find the gameplay loop highly addictive. Side quests include a lot of fetch quests and can get repetitive, but you can easily skip the ones you don't enjoy. You have a lot of freedom to play the game however you want. The story is by no means a thriller, but it does enough to motivate you to keep playing and there are some surprising developments. It is geared for families so don't expect too much here. Ubisoft has done a lot to build in lore and it does feel like a real star system. The settlements in this game do feel empty and they could have done more to make them feel like real cities and places. But other than than that it feels like a real, breathing star system. There is a fair amount of flora and fauna and lots of NPC's zipping around in ships minding their own business. Interplanetary travel feels great, especially when leaving and entering a planet's atmosphere. They did a really good job with this. You only see a loading screen if you use speed travel to warp to a different location. Space is filled with debris and points of interest which makes slower travel and exploration worthwhile. The toys are high quality and it is fun to change out weapons on the fly. The toys have been discontinued and can be hard to find, but all pilots, ships and weapons are available digitally. The best value is to purchase them in the Collection Packs, which regularly go on sale. I strongly recommend getting at least one collection pack as it really does add a lot of variety that significantly increases enjoyment of the game. Most of the content in Collection Pack 2 was never released physically so that's a good one to get if you are going to try to track down the physical toys. If you're not interested in collecting the toys then either Collection Pack is a great pickup. Alternatively you could just get the Digital Deluxe version of the game which includes everything in the Starter Pack and in Collection Pack 1. All in all, Starlink is a very fun game that I love returning to time and time again. I highly recommend it to anyone age 10 or up. The controls are complex so it is not the best for very young kids, although my kids love playing with the toys. The difficulty mode is easy to change at any time and young kids can participate in co-op. Player 2's ship is tethered to Player 1's and will automatically appear behind Player 1's when they drift too far apart. This works well when player 2 is a little one.

Fun and appropriate Tween Game
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't sure how I'd feel about another game that had you purchasing separate real life pieces but we were pleasantly surprised. The whole family has loved the game. The in-game violence is not extreme and I'd say appropriate for kids 7+ up to adults. I'm most surprised that my husband loves the game so much but I suppose it doesn't matter if a spaceship is attached or not, he loves video games. Also, we soon learned that you don't HAVE to purchase the actual pilot/weapon packs, you can game them in-game. This prevents a lot of little toys lying around and/or getting lost. I definitely recommend this route for sure especially if you have other little ones in the house.

Pleasantly Surprised!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little skeptical about this game going in - seemed like a cheap toys-2-life cash in. However, I generally like t2l games, I generally trust Ubisoft to make decent games, and there is the bonus of getting to play as Fox on the Switch version, so when a good sale came along I jumped onboard. Gotta say, I'm impressed! You can check out YouTube for detailed reviews, but I'll just say that if you as a rule enjoy open world games with lots of objectives to clear and/or you thought No Man's Sky was good gampelay-wise but needed an actual story, this could be a good fit for you. If the idea of having to swap the toys while you play the game is a turnoff for you, I will point out that all of the toys you link are unlocked digitally for seven days. When that time is up, you just have to relink them again to have digital access for another seven days; repeat as necessary. So you don't actually have to play with the toys attached all the time, I just relink everything once a week and play in digital mode. Of course, there's also the option of just buying the game digitally, which unlocks varying amounts of content depending on which version you buy. It just depends on current sales which option is more economical at the time.

Great gift for fans of Starfox!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If your kids love Starfox they will love Starlink Battle for Atlas! The open world is amazing to explore. They can customize the game with character toys (like Starfox), ships, and weapons. If your kids love playing two player they will love playing on the split screen mode. The characters and ships come as toys that connect to the game and are really cool to collect. Our whole family loves battling and exploring this fun world together!

Fun for the whole family!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My entire family loves this game! From our 5 year old to myself and my husband. We think it is really cool that you can build your own starship - and that it attaches to your controller so it feels like you are really using it to play! The weapons and pilots are easy to swap out. We have this for TWO different gaming systems we love it so much! The graphics are visually stunning and the gameplay is seamless! A must for gamers!

Pretty good Star Fox game.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is pretty fun, but would be nothing without the Star Fox elements. It's very open world with lots to explore. The story is fine, it's not dumb, but it's not super interesting either. The game truly shines in combat and customization. Honestly the extra toys you can buy are pretty pointless as you DO NOT need them to finish the game. The extra Star Fox elements and story are the highlight of the game and I feel sorry for anyone that didn't buy this on switch.

Fun, interchangeable vihdeo game.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a lot of fun, between choosing which pill to fly with, and easily in game change pilot, ship, and weapons. I also like the side quests and how big Atlas is, it makes killing the enemies, and exploring more fun. There was zero lag between maps, no obnoxious loading in gameplay. I appreciate that! Overall I look forward to unlocking more, expanding my pilots and weapon kits. We have to save the Captain! I had fun, and so did the kids playing.

Fun game, but it isnt perfect.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall im very happy with this game considering the price is low and comes with the Arwing!. Game play is good but can get repetitive especially if you dont have the newest update. You are also limited to the type of guns and ships you can use unless you buy more of the toys or digitally. For under 40 its a bargain, I probably wouldn't pay full price unless they really revamp the game play.

Outstanding Continuation with Creative Aspects
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son has fallen in love with the Star Fox series and Starlink Battle for Atlas is a perfect continuation of the original games. The plus is the creative aspects that are involved in the new game. With the ability to customize your ships you can find new ways to complete the different missions. I also love the scientific aspect that is included when you have to do DNA research to learn about the different creatures in the game.

So far a great game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only got about 8 hours into this game and have only gone to a third planet so far, but this game is definitely fun. The exploring of the planets and space make for a lot of entertainment. Some might find fights to be repetitive, but trying to complete all the various things on planets to get 100% achievements will definitely keep you engrossed in the game if you are into that. The tie-in with the physical toys seems like a money grab, but the way they did the the various weapons does make sense in the game. I don't see myself buying different ships or pilots until I beat the game with Fox McCloud, but the way you can get tasks done with different weapon types makes me want to get the other weapon packs. Playing in a digital only mode is kind of a pain. I find myself playing this with the joycons docked in the included ship+joycon docking controller. Granted, I haven't played this game while on the go.

Love the Starter Pack
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and son are big gamers and my son is into Toys-to-life games. So the Starlink Battle For Atlas starter pack did not disappoint. He loves how customizable the figures are in the game. And that you don't have to use the toys to play the game, making it easier to travel with it, especially on a road trip. The graphics are top-notch. He has been playing it for a few days now and still having fun exploring space and gathering resources, etc. If you (or the gamer in your life) love space exploration and shooter games, Starlink Battle For Atlas makes a great gift!

Cool gift idea!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Searching for cool Christmas gifts for my nine-year-old son isn’t easy. He’s almost beyond the toy stage and has just about everything possible in his bedroom closet, so finding something that will pique his interest and excite him for the holidays is definitely a challenge. This year, I discovered Starlink Battle for Atlas for his Nintendo Switch video game system. He is constantly playing something on the Nintendo Switch, whether we are at home or in the car and this is one game that he doesn’t already have so it’s perfect! He loves a video game that provides action and cool characters or scenarios and the Starlink Battle for Atlas game has it all! We actually didn’t wait until Christmas to experience this new game and considered it an early Christmas present…I’m so glad we did!

Great Space Starship Shooter
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There hasn't been one of these games in a while that's this good. It sucks that all of the extra weapons, ships and pilots are microtransactions, and certain things in the game can't be accessed without the proper weapons (mostly just extra loot, from what I have seen . . . nothing that blocks actual progression,) but the ability to swap them out in the middle of combat is pretty cool. The Arwing ship is one of the kind that has higher speed and agility, but low defense. Be aware of this when using it, as a large group of enemies could potentially overwhelm you with bullet sprays. Overall it is a fun game that I've enjoyed, and I will continue playing it. (Also, even though it costs more, I like having the physical toys to display and play with. Great for collectors, and they look good next to Amiibo displays. :D)

Great Graphics and Challenging
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son is 10 years old and he's an epic gamer. He grew bored with other modular toy games, but as soon as he turned Starlink on, he was hooked. I like the modular toy games because it gives me something to gift him for holidays and birthdays. Also, incentives to be well behaved and do well in school.

Best Starfox game ever.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So fun, I just got it yesterday, Idk why people are saying it doesn't come with the game? it does.. or they got their game stolen? that's weird.. anyways, the gameplay is AWESOME. It's basically an open world RPG flying shooter. You can upgrade your ships. fly around and do missions on different planets, GREAT combat mechanics. smooth gameplay probably the best Starfox game ever.

Great StarFox game (kidding)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Starlink is a surprisingly good game especially the no fuss drop in/drop out co-op and the inclusion of Star Fox is pretty epic and very well integrated into the main story (and the Arwing is a joy to fly). The visuals take a hit on the Switch but it doesn't matter when the gameplay is so much fun and fast paced. I got the Digital Deluxe for 50% off during the christmas sale and it's a much better time having access to all weapons and ships and it also leads to a more varied and tactical co-op experience, the toys are nonsense and is what put me off getting this game at the beginning but I'm just glad they have an almost all in one digital version without spending a silly amount on all the toys and that 50% off was a no brainer.

Great game, greater deal
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Starlink Battle for Atlas is a game that unfortunately doesn’t receive much recognition. I mean, just look at the sales. But me being the opportunist that I am, I’d say make the commercial flop that is this game a success for you. The toys to life thing might unsettle you at first sight, but I guarantee it’s no bother. You’re given all you need to get the most out of the game right from the starter pack and what you do get out of the game is quality. This is a polished experience well worth the usually sixty dollar price tag, and at a price like 10 dollars it is an absolute steal. If you get the chance and the right price, definitely pick this one up.

Low Expectations - Great Results
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Going into the game I felt hesitant. That it was going to be a terribly story with terrible mechanics. I was wrong. The controls were fluid. Story was good for what it was and will entertain all types of children. However, this game is similar to Skylanders. To get new ships, weapons, and pilots one must go out and buy the toys for them or alternatively buy them digitally through the Nintendo E Shop (buying them digitally means that you will get the item in game without the need of the toy. The ships, weapons, and pilots are all costly and not worth the buy. Overall a good game. Kept me busy for a total of 26 hours before beating the game itself.

Decent game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game is pretty solid for the $4.99 sale they had going on tbh, and I even got the game early when I ordered it online which was great! I would recomend this game to anyone who enjoys games similar to no mans sky and Everspace. Worth the buy 100% however the only thing I dislike about the game is that it's a toys to play game similar to Skylanders or that Lego game noone remembers. They could have just made the attachments amiibos and every little weapon that comes with the ships interchangeable based on reattaching them to other amiibos for starlink. But I digress, the game is a really solid buy for the price.
