This is a replacement for the same Rival 500 that was damaged by too many airplane trips. The mouse itself is very well made and lasted me 2 years. The programmable buttons give you complete control of how you play your games. I have over 15 profiles saved to switch from game to game. IMHO it is one of the best on the market.

My son needed a new mouse for playing his games. He is a truck driver that is out for weeks at a time, so he plays games while he sits. He really likes his new mouse, it has everything that he needs.

After almost a year, I have to say that the mouse is good but I just started to fill some heat coming from one of the sides of it. I am not sure why it would do that

No mouse pag compared to my previous one. Also gives you the feel you desire tweak at your own cost but you will find the pointer speed you like.

Twice now I have these mice fail on me. After about a year of average use both mice I had started to have DPI erratically change on the fly. Looking it up it seems to be a software problem. It really sucks because I love everything else about the mouse, the thumb flick button is genius and I wish more companies would do something like it.

First off the mouse feels pretty good in my hands but unfortunately that’s about the only good thing I’ve experienced with it. The mouse works great when it works but half the time the buttons don’t work and you have to unplug it then plug it back in for it to work again. Not an ideal situation for gaming. Probably a driver issue but none the less it doesn’t work right.

Didn't work out of the box. Contacted Steel Series, who wanted me to pay to ship it to them to fix it. returned it next possible day. I typically encourage others to try peripherals and don't take other people's word for it, but please, don't buy this.

    Almost a homerun but flawed

First, I need to say the shape of this mouse is perfect for me. I have medium sized hands and grip the mouse with what I call a hybrid palm/claw. The slope on the right side of the mouse doesn't cause pain in my small finger with extended use like many other mice with sharp edges or tight radius curves. I really wanted to like this mouse. Also, the 3 button mousewheel is better than most. It's quiet with enough scroll resistance that allows the left, right, and down mousewheel buttons to be used without accidentally scrolling. A bit more scroll resistance would be even better. Now the negatives: 1. The Rival 500 grip surface. I'm coming from a Rival 300. I use a lowish sensitivity so I often lift the mouse to recenter. The Rival 300 is lightweight with sticky rubber grips. There is never any slip when lifting the Rival 300 to recenter its position. On this Rival 500, a much heavier mouse with more buttons, the grip material is harder offering less grip when lifting. I feel like i have to deathgrip the mouse to keep it from slipping when I lift. This mouse needs better grip material. 2. The lower left thumb buttons. When not locked and used as a thumb rest, these buttons are far too easy to accidentally click. The problem is the mechanical leverage the thumb rest shape of the button creates on the switch. A much stiffer switch needs to be used below these thumb rest buttons. 3. I love the addition of more buttons on the top surface next to the standard mouse1 and mouse2. Although the top left forward button is a long reach to click. Steelseries has developed a wonderfully shaped mouse. In the future I would like to see a lighter version of this mouse with better grip. Standard single click mouse wheel. Keep B4, B8, B9 and B13 they are perfect. Combine B11 and B12 to a single long button (matching B13). Maybe a single thumb rest button with a stiffer click.

    Gamer Mouse WoW/GW2/OW/HotS

I never write reviews for any product but I have to do it for this mouse. It is amazing and has been helpful in all my games. I primarily use this mouse for WoW as many of you know, there are many spells and sadly I can only reach up to 5 in the keyboard, having to keybind them to shift is useful but still not enough. With that being said this mouse has work wonders for me. Being able to just press and cast some major CD is amazing and easy. Granted you still have to get use to it. I see a lot of people complaining that is too "Big" or too "heavy" for me its perfect and it has this one spot you can press and hold to drag without clicking on the other buttons by accident. I'm 5'6 so my hands are not huge but not small, but I'm still able to press all buttons without issues nor stress. the second point I love from this mouse vibration you can put after pressing each button to know for sure you press it lol. this way you're sure it was press. Nice little feature there, although it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the mouse vibrate as a controller. Perhaps for the next series.

Not for "true" gamers, or any for that matter!

I'll save you the trouble of reading a long-winded explanation and just get right to it: 1) It's HUGE! If having small hands is defined by NOT being able to palm a basketball, then I must have small hands. So, unless you have large hands, or freakishly long fingers and thumbs, the buttons near the index finger, and the thumb buttons on the side, are extremely difficult to reach. 2) You know how you "drag and drop" a file from one folder to another by holding down the left-click button? You can't do that with ANY non-standard button on this mouse. ie... You rebind the thumb buttons to represent key presses, like while playing WoW or GW2. You can NOT "hold" the button down and actually have it "hold" it in the game.... they all "click" regardless of settings. In other words, that spell or ability you have to "channel" by holding down a button... yeah... not going to happen with this mouse, it's just not allowed in the programming. There is a "repeat while pressed" option, but it's a rapid-fire type of repeat, where it click-click-click-click with whatever amount of delay in between that you choose. You can't set the thumb buttons to be your "fire" button in CoD/BF games, it just fires 1 or 2 rounds and that's it.... no sustained fire rate because it just doesn't work like that. One last thing, the cord, it's one of those high-oxygen rubber/silicone coated cords, stiff, has a lot of grip/traction to it, and if your cord is bent out-of-the-box in just the wrong way... it causes significant drag when moving your mouse, and there is no "relaxing" this cord either! Buy at your own risk, but be warned!
