This was breath of fresh air for a Mario plat-former.
I played a couple of the “New” Super Mario games. I always felt that they were kind of boring.
The 3D Land and Worlds games were a lot of fun. But didn’t offer much NEW experiences.
I feel like Wonder brought back that feeling I had when I first played SMB3 and Super Mario World.
It’s hard to explain. But none of the games prior have really given me that balance and excitement to play through and see the next world.
My biggest con for this game is Boss variety. You just fight the same boss battle with various effects.
It’s cool…..but I just felt it could have used some variety.

The True Sequel To Super Mario World (SPOILERS)

I have not been THIS excited about a new Mario game since the release of Super Mario World with the Super Nintendo 32 years ago. This game is what I fondly refer to as a "Christmas Morning Game" - It is a perfect holiday title, be it for yourself or your kids...or let's face it, BOTH, lol! The visuals the game offers are stunning! There is some new sound design, just like what we had with Super Mario World. The game also takes a page out of Super Mario Bros. 2's book with the character selection. Unfortunately, the characters play pretty much the same, save for the Yoshi's and Nabbit. There are some new power-ups to discover and many challenging new enemies. The Badge mechanic is also a welcome addition. In short, I love this game. In fact, I'm playing it as I'm writing this review. I'm at the "Fluff-Puff Peaks Special Climb to the Beat" course and my goodness is it difficult (I mean, they gave it FIVE stars for a reason, lol). Speaking of difficulty, I want to address a couple of personal "cons" that don't diminish the gameplay at all, just a personal wishlist.
First, we should have another 30-40 courses. This game was way too fun and thus, way too short. Second, I really wanted certain enemies to return - Shyguy, Snifit, Chargin' Chuck, and a few others, I wanted more bosses, not just the Koopalings (they're sitting this one out, anyway). Birdo, Fry Guy, Mouser, Tryclyde, Clawgrip, Petey Piranha, Boom-Boom, and even Wart would have made a great addition to the game's bosses (namely Bowser Jr. and Bowser). Maybe, they'll be in a DLC or a sequel in the near future, Who knows? Anyway, the real question you're asking is "Should I get this game?" And my answer to you would be "Why don't you have this already? GO GET IT!"

Great graphics, crazy gameplay especially when you get the wonder seeds. The new power ups are the best in the Mario series. The music is very good. If you were a fan in super Mario bros, you will love this game.

This is by far the best 2D mario that I've experience in my life. The game itself is fun and creative in many ways of playing each level within the worlds. The thing I do like the most is how colorful and creative each level is and how the background of said levels don't look like the typical overworld background, like in other 2d mario games. One of things I did like what refrences to prior mario games in terms of musics and sounds within certain levels. Now on to the things I didn't like and its only a few minor ones. One of the things I didn't like was how short the levels felt and thats even with the wonder flower effect happening. I felt like they should've made these levels a little bit longer in terms of playing them. I also felt like there wasn't enough main levels within the worlds. Like I felt within each world half the levels were either time attack levels, badge challenge levels and then the rest would be the typical world levels. I also felt a lot of the badge challenges were repetative and were a little to hard to beat. I also didn't like how nintendo took away the score tally that they've always had on a 2d mario game. I do like how they also took away the timer that way we can have more time within each level. Another thing I'm so glad nintendo did away with was autoscrolling levels. I couldn't stand those in a 2d mario game and was so glad to not have it in this game. Overall I really enjoy playing this game with the exception of a few levels. Oh another thing I didn't care far was the palace boss battle, which was really just bowser jr over and over, and again it felt repetative and didn't feel any different from playing it on the DS or any other platform. I do hope down the line that Nintendo does release DLC for this game and add in more levels and no badge challenges. Oh and speaking of badges, the invisibility one wasn't one I wouldn't want in any game. I felt like I couldn't beat or play any levels that required that featured.

Great 2D Mario return to form; 100% recommend

An excellent return to form for 2D Mario! The graphics are gorgeous- the keyframes really make Mario look and feel like the early 2D platforming gems (and not like the generic art in the "New" Super Mario Bros games). Music is fantastic, although not particularly memorable, the level design and puzzles are engaging and varied, and difficulty levels/character options make this appropriate for all levels (though still fairly easy and only ~15 hours on a Main+Extra playthrough)
100% recommended for any Mario fan and casual gamer.

This is a great update on the classic side scrolling Mario formula. Crisp graphics, precise platforming, good music as usual. The new mechanic is "Wonder," mode where if you find the secret star thing (sorry I don't have a better name) you enter a trippy version of the level that has different mechanics than the main level. I prefer the standard levels but the Wonder levels are a good challenge. You can play as a bunch of characters but they all play the same. All in all I've really enjoyed my time with the game and if you like Mario you won't be disappointed.

Love this game! The gameplay is solid, I love the controls, and the various power ups are great. It’s hilarious to turn Peach into an elephant and use her trunk to wipe out enemies - that feature alone almost justifies the purchase. The parkour-style climbing of walls is something I need to get better at, but that is a fresh challenge!

Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo, but new!

This game exceeded my expectations for a Mario side-scrolling game. Some previous iterations of Mario games have been hit or miss for me, but this one scratched the itch perfectly. Felt very reminiscent to Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo.
Introduced very fun mechanics to spin the side-scrolling genre for a new loop, and it was exciting to discover each one! Future Mario Maker levels are going to be insane if they put some of these new mechanics into the next Mario Maker game.
Game has plenty of varying difficulty on levels, but nearly never feels like its something you're unprepared for. Excellent game for people of all ages.
The new online play features this game has are also incredible. Makes it feel like you're never playing solo, and always having fun with others, because you are! I recommend the online features for all ages. There are a few levels that having others around to help becomes super helpful and very funny sometimes. Having the online features turned on doesn't change how you complete the levels, and will not interfere in solo play. Also the online features are perfectly safe for players of all ages as well, as there are no chat functions, save for the 4 emojis that other players can see. A smiley face, musical notes, a question mark, and a megaphone.
As of writing this, I have completed bowsers castle, but turns out, I still have probably over 15 levels left to play! Love this game!

Super Mario Bros. Wonder feels like a true successor to the "Super Mario World" game from the SNES era. This game combines all of the best gameplay elements from the past 2D Mario platformer games of the past into one amazing new version, with plenty of great nostalgic callbacks to the Mario games of the past. The levels all have a great level of creativity, fun new enemies, beautiful visuals, and of course the crazy world-bending Wonder flower effects. It's a great pick-up-and-play type game, and can be hours of fun in single or multiplayer. A worthy Mario successor that truly looks great on the Switch.

There's a lot to like about this game. The story is interesting while also bringing the gameplay to a completely new kingdom. The game is the best of classic Mario mixed with some new powers. The in-level trials for the Wonder Seeds also do a great job at flipping the script/level, sometimes literally. The game does great at emulating depth, sometimes having pipes jumping the player character into the foreground or background.
If there is one flaw, and it's a minor one, it's that all of the player characters feel fairly same-y. At least until you start getting badges to customize the experience more.

I had a great time with Mario Wonder. Even though it's the same classic 2d Mario formula, each level has a unique "wonder seed" to find that completely changes everything. Not to mention all the little secrets to track down.
It's a great game to pick up and play portably for a little while, it felt right at home on my switch lite. Wasn't too difficult to complete but it has some tough levels in the special worlds. Definitely worth a playthrough though, especially if a sale pops up.

Best 2D Mario Game in Decades

When Nintendo first announced Super Mario Bros. Wonder in their Direct, I was so disappointed. The “New” Super Mario Bros. series never pulled me in and I was done with 2D Mario. Reading all the hype that followed that Direct was so puzzling to me as I couldn’t figure out what everyone was getting so excited about. Once people begin to talk about the return to the original NES/SNES platformers formula, I began to see what people were hyped about.
Fast forward to today, and I feel like a kid all over again. I smile ear to ear while playing and I can’t put this game down. It reminds me of getting Super Mario Bros. 3 for my birthday, seeing the Super Mario World demo in Toys R Us, staying up late with my cousins to explore all the secrets, and so much more. Is it a hard platformer? No, Hollow Knight takes that crown, (and a personal score of 10/10), but Wonder is truly a masterpiece that is a absolute joy to play.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a vibrant, wildly imaginative reinvention of classic Mario platforming. The game explodes with color and personality, thanks to the Flower Kingdom’s unique setting, expressive animations, and a cast of new enemies and power-ups, including the hilarious Elephant Mario. The standout feature is the Wonder Flower, which transforms levels with unpredictable, surreal effects-one moment you’re running on ceilings, the next you’re a Goomba or caught in a musical sequence. Every stage feels fresh and surprising, keeping players on their toes.

A Family Review Filled with Joy and Laughter!

Remember that time we huddled around the Switch, controllers in hand, giggling like kids as Mario transformed into a giant, lumbering elephant? Or the heart-pounding races we had online, trying to snag the most coins and bragging rights? Super Mario Bros. Wonder wasn't just a game for us; it was a family adventure filled with wonder (pun intended!), laughter, and pure gaming joy.
This latest Mario escapade whisked us away to the vibrant Flower Kingdom, bursting with color and even more colorful characters. Each stage was like a surprise box, thanks to the wacky "Wonder" effects that changed everything from gravity to perspective. One minute we were stomping Goombas, the next we were bouncing on giant bubbles or swinging through levels as monkeys! It kept us guessing and grinning the whole way through.
And let's not forget the new power-ups! Elephant Mario became our instant favorite, his goofy animations and trunk attacks leaving us in stitches. We also loved burrowing underground with Drill Mario and strategically using Bubble Mario to trap enemies and reach high ledges. Each power-up added a unique twist, making every level feel fresh and exciting.
The online multiplayer was a surprisingly smooth experience, letting us race and explore stages with friends near and far. While couch co-op is still the ultimate Mario party, the online option was a welcome addition, especially for those moments when geography separated us.
Now, no game is perfect, and Wonder had a few minor snags. The music, while pleasant, didn't quite stick in our heads like some of the classic Mario tunes. And for seasoned Mario veterans like myself, the difficulty could have been cranked up a notch. But for my daughter, who's still mastering the art of platforming, the inclusion of Nabbit as an invincible character was a game-changer, allowing us to progress together and enjoy the wonder without frustration.
Overall, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a must-play for any family looking for a joyful, laughter-filled adventure. It's bursting with creativity, charm, and enough silly surprises to keep everyone entertained, from seasoned gamers to wide-eyed newcomers. So grab your controllers, gather your loved ones, and get ready to experience the wonder for yourselves!

Mario Wonder is my favorite Mario game in a long, long time. It's very fun, colorful, and surprising.
The only criticism I have is that it's too short. It should've had one more world that upped the challenge somewhere between the final world and the Special World

The game feels very different compared to older 2d mario games such as mario bros wii or new super mario bros for the ds. Its unique and every level plays differently with the wonder effects and new abilities. Some changes i did not like entirely. I think the game is very child friendly as a lot of the nee features make it play a lot easier even when youre in multiplayer. They may have made it too easy but that is not to say there arent any challenges in this game. I highly recommend this game.
