While Super Mario Galaxy was released in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Nintendo rereleased Super Mario Galaxy with Super Mario Galaxy 2 which can be played on Switch and Switch 2. In Super Mario Galaxy, Peach's castle has been takin' up to orbit as Bowser kidnaps Peach once again. It's up to Mario to save Peach and her castle back to the Mushroom Kingdom in order to celebrate the Star Festival. Like the 3D All-Stars port, Mario Galaxy plays the same with tight controls using the gyro function to move the star cursor, but if you play it on Switch 2, the game gets a graphical update with better resolution and plays much faster and smoother. Nothing to say, but Super Mario Galaxy is still a classic. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bowser kidnaps Peach again and Mario must rescue her. Much like the first Galaxy game, Mario controls the same and the gyro functions controls the same. But instead of a hub world where you go inside a room and pick a galaxy, control a big starship with the same shape as Mario's face through 6 massive worlds filled with big challenging galaxies to find power stars and start bits to unlock new galaxies and paths to reach Bowser's new galaxy. In some galaxies, you get to ride Yoshi who will eat enemies, fruit and guide Mario through treacherous traps and hard to reach areas with two berry powerups. Yellow berry that turns Yoshi yellow and light up hidden paths, and a light blue berry that turns Yoshi light blue and spew air to reach high places. Mario also has new poweups of his own such as the cloud flower which give Mario the ability to create cloud like platforms to reach high places or reach to other platforms, and the rock flower that transforms Mario in to a boulder that gives Mario the ability to roll around at enemies and break cracked walls at maximum speed. With challenging galaxies, great controls and incredible great resolution on Switch 2, Mario Galaxy 2, is another great game in the 3D Mario series. For any Mario and/or Nintendo fan, this is a perfect buy for your Switch/Switch 2. And, I also recommend to play both these games on Switch 2 for their beautiful graphics and higher resolution that plays like you're in a giant IMAX theater. While the first Mario Galaxy is on 3D All-Stars which is now out of print and now being pricey, playing Mario Galaxy with Mario Galaxy 2 is a great chance to fly through the galaxies with our favorite plumber again. Blast off to space and relive the two greatest Wii games once again.

Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 look amazing on the Switch — smooth gameplay, bright visuals, and pure fun from start to finish. The controls feel natural, and the levels are packed with creativity. It’s the perfect mix of nostalgia and challenge. A must-have for any Mario fan!

I bought the Super Mario Galaxy collection to replay some classic levels and to share the experience with my girlfriend who never played the originals. I am about 18 hours in so far and both games look and run great in docked and handheld mode. Galaxy one still shines with its soaring orchestral soundtrack and creative gravity based puzzles. Galaxy two feels more focused and tougher in the best way with memorable boss fights and clever level twists. The Joy Con controls are responsive when you need motion but the games also play fine without waving the controller constantly. I appreciated the updated visuals and the smoother frame rate which make platforming more reliable. If you want a short break or a long play session the difficulty curve and variety of planets keep things fresh. This is perfect for longtime fans and for anyone who wants a more imaginative 3D Mario than the more recent entries. I would have loved a small art gallery or developer notes as a bonus but that is a small miss. Highly recommended purchase.

This game is pure platforming perfection. Both games have aged beautifully, and seeing them together in one package feels like a celebration of Nintendo’s best work. The visuals are stunning, the music still gives me chills, and the controls feel smoother than ever. Every level bursts with creativity, from gravity-bending worlds to clever star challenges that reward exploration and skill. Galaxy 1 delivers that sense of cosmic wonder, while Galaxy 2 refines everything to near perfection with tighter gameplay and fresh ideas. Whether you’re a longtime Mario fan or new to these adventures, the charm, polish, and sheer joy packed into both games make them feel timeless. This is Nintendo magic reborn — a must-play collection that shines brighter than ever on the Switch.

I bought this collection of Super Mario Galaxy since I didn’t manage to get a copy of the limited 3d Allstars collection. The motion and pointing controls are pretty good not too finicky. The game is still fun and challenging just like before. Overall a good collection for anyone who loves the Mario Galaxy series!

These are two of the best Mario games ever made and I love having them on a modern console. I admit the price is a bit high, but they are both fairly big games and my two favorite Mario games. If you never played them before but don’t want to pay full price for two old games I would keep an eye out for a sale or just buy one digitally to see if you really like it.

These are two great games from the Wii era. While the price set many people off due to the age of these titles it’s a great deal considering that this feels like a remake and not much of a port. Galaxy one feels and looks like it’s 3D all stars counterpart (we will get more into that soon) however there’s a new story in the storybook and has been fined tuned to work with the pro controller so that’s a bonus. Galaxy 2 is the biggest game in this set as it’s actually been upgraded for the first time and has the same bonuses as the first game. Overall these are pretty good games and get the job done to kickstart Mario’s 40th but if you have Super Mario 3D All Stars from the 35th Anniversary then you might be better off just getting Galaxy 2 digitally instead if you don’t want two copies of the same game in two different sets
