The Mario game that even an millennial knows and can enjoy as a whole new world. Mario has never been more cool. Hands down the best Mario game.

I was a little worried that the hype that this game was receiving was going to be way overblown and the game not live up to it but I'm so glad I was wrong. It feels like a subtle blend of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy in play style. The levels are really enjoyable and Nintendo has, like with BotW, made the game where you can tinker around with doing things in odd ways and it pay off.
Side note, the best way to play to me might have to be joycon in each hand.

This game brings back memories and feelings that only come with the greatest Mario releases. This title is right up there with the best of them: Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Mario 64, and Galaxy 1/2. The game mechanics feel fresh and inspiring. I could not put the controller down. Just one more moon.... and then just one more after that... and before you know it, it's been 12 moons and on to the next kingdom. A definite must-buy for all switch owners.

I am just lost for words. The spirit of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine lives on in this game. It was as if I stepped into a portal to my childhood. I highly recommend the "single joy-con in each hand" motion control scheme. The motions controls feel so intuitive and really enhance the gameplay. Cappy serves as a great sidekick, with his boomerang and capture abilities providing a refreshing take on the classic 3D Mario Mechanics. Visually, it is a gorgeous game. It maintains 60 fps consistently in both mobile and docked. There seems to be a variety of different environments in this game, unlike Super Mario Galaxy and Sunshine. While those games followed a common theme, Odyssey takes influence from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World in that there is a (Spoilers) desert world, ghost world. tropical world, metro world, etc. The music is phenomenal. I recommend that everyone use a headset to truly appreciate it. I had chills running down my spine once I heard the theme from the Switch Presentation Trailer for Odyssey. No other franchise has made as big of an impact on the gaming industry as Mario. He is the Micky Mouse of gaming. This game can be enjoyed by anyone. Enthusiast gamers. Father/Mother playing with his or her kids. Teenagers. Anyone. They have absolutely blown me away with putting out masterpieces such as Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. These 2 games make the Switch worth it. I must also add that this year has been incredible for gaming. Besides Mario and Zelda, we had Persona 5, Cuphead, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier, Nioh, Divinity. Instead of debating Game of the Years. We should declare 2017 as the Year of the Games. I hope everyone enjoys these games as much as I have.

This game can be very challenging but it’s definitely a fun game to play. The puzzles are fun to figure out and platforming is still there like the traditional Mario games. The scenery and graphics to each world are very creative.

Super Mario Odyssey really is one of the best games for the Switch. The controls and overall playability are just excellent, but that’s a given with Nintendo, isn’t it? It was a great visit to nostalgia with references to the original Super Mario on NES incorporated into the gameplay.
Kids and adult will enjoy it with hours and hours of gameplay. You can even continue playing after the end as well!

This game was a joy to play from start to finish. A tremendous celebration of Mario throughout the years, paying homage and taking strides into a bright future for the 3D line of the franchise. Simple and easy enough for the very young and inexperienced, but complex and mature enough for us seasoned players to enjoy as many hours as we want. Made my son jump with excitement, and made me smile like a 10yr old boy again, reminded of the many reasons we love this franchise. Can’t recommend this enough; a must have for the Nintendo Switch.

well, it was bound to happen. The kids got into Nintendo. Previously, my son played Lego City on XBOX & would watch me play some Forza. On occasion I'd pull out the PS3 and play some Marvel vs Capcom... but I decided he was ready for Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda and HO BOY what a rabbit hole we fell into. Since then we've gotten the other Mario Switch games (Maker 2, Paper, 3D All-Stars, etc)... gotten into ROMs, custom Flash games... I suppose cosplay & mushroom-induced hallucinations inside a labyrinth of pipes & toadstools is the logical next step. Anyway, this game is PERFECT: the controls, the music, the gameplay. Previous Mario 3D games seem so janky compared to this, or maybe I'm just bad at old Mario 3D games. Odyssey is one of the greatest games I've ever played, and it made my son appreciate Nintendo as one of our civilizations' greatest brands in human history (I'm not exaggerating. Think about it. Sony, Xbox, all good too, but Nintendo is NINTENDO, man).

As a long time Mario fan, Super Mario Odyssey hits all the right spots. It's platforming is solid, it's gameplay is incredibly fun, and the music is simply astounding. Forced motion controls for some things leaves a little to be desired, while I'm not troubled by it, I can see other people who might be, and it can be a pain to shake the switch when playing it in handheld mode.
Overall, this game is rather solid and a good contender for GoTY.

Fun, never boring, game that fluctuates between easy and challenging. It’s like the perfect platformer, and would definitely recommend as one of the first games to get on a Switch. Getting to the story shouldn’t be too hard, but if you plan on getting 100% completion it can get really challenging quick.

I am so impressed with Mario Odyssey. It is so well made - graphics, storyline, etc. it’s also challenging and interesting enough for adults, but it can also be easy enough for my 7 year old son to learn and play! I grew up with the old Nintendo systems so this 3D animation is just amazing!

This is such a fun game with awesome graphics! The storyline is a blast and keeps you entertained for hours and hours of play! So many new things to do and see, and our family really enjoyed all the brand new adventures that seemed to pop up around every corner.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fantastic game to add to your collection!

There's not much more I can say that hasn't already been said by actual critics and other users. The game is as much fun as you would expect from a Nintendo title with tons of content. Looks and performs extremely well either in docked or portable mode. In portable mode, the Switch can play this game for at least 2.5 hours before the battery is depleted. Would recommend to any Switch owner as an essential, must have title for the system.

There's a lot to love about Super Mario Odyssey. The gameplay, controls, challenges, and visuals are top notch. The story is typical for a modern Mario game, but that's not why we play them.
From the moment the opening cutscene ended and I had control of Mario, instinct took over. Running, jumping, triple jumps, wall jumps, slides. All the moves were there, and I didn't even need to think about them. But as is standard for Mario games, quick tutorials abound. By the time you work your way through the "tutorial" stage, you've been introduced to all the basic moves. In addition to the classic moves, Mario gets several new tricks in this game, including the ability to take control of certain enemies to get around the stages. As you encounter new challenges, tips pop up.
Speaking of challenges, there is a nice mix. Some of them are super easy, some of them are head scratchers, and some are only accessible once the story has been completed. There has been a complaint that some of the "challenges" were just giveaways for taking the logical path. I don't have a problem with this at all. Perhaps the game is a bit generous with the rewards, but it is great for people who just want to complete the main game and don't really have the interest (or the time) to find every secret. It's not overly complicated to get enough "moons" to unlock the next world or stage. Additionally, because of the mobile nature of the switch, having a lot of quick challenges is great for when you only have a few minutes of play time. It's possible to complete a challenge during a 15 minute bus or train ride.
This also is great for someone like myself, who might only have 30 minutes of game time between other family responsibilities. I feel like I am making real progress even in short gaming sessions.
If you're a fan of Mario games or haven't played one since the N64, Super Mario Odyssey won't disappoint.

This game was a giant nostalgic punch in the face! I mean that in all the best ways possible! Many things in this game serve as a giant love letter to old Nintendo fans, especially those that played Mario 64. The game has lots of well thought out worlds, and plenty of challenging moons to collect. This is easily one of the best games on the Switch and I highly recommend it to everyone! This game is worth the switch alone!
