When I first started to play Mario Odyssey, it took me a while to figure out the controls and as with other Mario games my goal was to beat the game. The journey was wonderful with so many surprises and beautiful 3D and 2D worlds. Beating the game is not very hard, the journey is all smiles. After getting to the end, I took a short break and then a month later started it up again. I was very much surprised by home much fun I was having discovering more and more moons and revisiting kingdoms. With every new moon I was having more and more fun and I am still loving every moment. There are still plenty of moons for me to find and the game difficulty is ramping up and when you are able to finally go though a tough part, it is so satisfying.

Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch is phenomenal. The graphics are crisp, the character animations are fluid, and the game runs at a consistent 60 frames per second. The new gameplay mechanic of using your hat as a weapon and temporarily possessing NPC's to creatively reach goals is very fun. Being awarded Power Moons for your efforts and the little animation that Mario does never gets old. The only gripe I have is that while not "required", some moves can only be done with the JoyCons removed and in your hands a-la Wiimotes. This makes portable play in handheld mode a bit more challenging, but it's still a blast. A definite must-have for any Mario fan and really anyone who owns a Nintendo Switch.

Just go ahead and buy it. It’s a 3d Mario game. Plenty of stuff to do and lots of game time. Family fun as well with two player with the hat being controlled by the second person. It is a must have for Nintendo switch

Super Mario Odyssey represents a return to the classic exploration style Mario platformers like Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine, with the key improvement that completing challenges doesn't kick you back to a hub (though the major plot oriented ones do put you back at the entrance to the level). There's lots to see and do and each themed "Kingdom" is distinct with unique mechanics and inhabitants. There's dozens of challenges in each level (typically 50+) many of which require a combination of thoughtful exploration, puzzle solving and some quick reflexes.
If the recent 3D Mario platforming games seemed too linear and you've been missing the open world style gameplay, this is the game you've been waiting for.

Great story, great graphics, great gameplay, definitely has a lot of replay value, this game is just so much fun to play! 2 player is fun with someone who might not be great at video games

My daughter and I have loved playing this. For her it has tons to explore, even in the earlier levels which are easier. So even if she gets frustrated by the hard levels there's still tons to do in the easy ones. For me it reminds me of my days playing Mario 64 but much much bigger.

After so many years and so many Super Mario games the possibility of the game becoming stale is a real possibility. Once again though Nintendo manages to deliver another great game with the latest outing for Mario. It is great new adventure and technical improvements with elements of older Mario games throughout that bring back great memories and feelings from the past. From the soundtrack to the game play old emotions will bubble to the surface. Even some of the frustration you hated. Thankfully they have included a mode to help get past some of the more difficult parts because i know my reflexes aren't getting better with age. A great game and necessary addition to the growing Switch library.

Visually, this is the best the series has ever looked, while the gameplay feels like it's based off of the best parts of Mario 64. While each level has a clearly marked main goal, they're made to lure you off course, letting you go after whatever catches your eye. The main story is designed to be fun for people of any skill level (there is a very helpful Assist Mode that you can use at any time if you're not sure what to do), but the later challenges push you to learn all of Mario's abilities. In particular, if you can learn to use the triple-jump-and-dive-bounce then you can leap across massive gaps or scale almost any wall. If you have a Switch, get this game.
