One of the best Mario games since Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2. This game is amazing. There is a return to a large hub world that is open to you, almost like the old Delfino Plaza and Peach's Castle in Mario 64. I like this better than the level select options of the Galaxy games. Additionally, Cappy is a unique partner and the first time you take over a T-rex will be very exciting. Overall, this is one of the most fun games I have played in a long, long while.

Great game all around for casual and hardcore players . Joy-con controls are okay gets to be a bit much. Played mostly with pro controller which offered tighter controls. Tons of replability as beating last world unlocks more to do. If you have a young one or a second person around they can control the hat which resulted in some hilarious moments for me. Fun game, tight controls, great platforming and gorgeous game must buy for switch owners

It is impossible to play this game without a smile on your face. Very well done, environments are gorgeous (By Nintendo MARIO standards... of course PS4 Pro and Xbone X make these laughable). Game runs smooth as butter in handheld and docked both at 60fps which is a very big deal because it means that I have yet encountered a framrate lul and I have played for hours on end. Impressive game all round manages to pay homage and stay fresh. Best 60 you can spend for the Switch.

This is a great game that's safe for all ages, providing hours of family fun.
It reminds me of a bit of Mario Galaxy. There is some disappointment if you are expecting more of the classic feel, but it throws in a few surprises.
I can play for about 1-2 hours before finding it extremely repetitive and needing a break. It is someone lacking in the bad guy content, there are not a lot of Goombas to smash and Turtles to Kick. And, the Boss battles were designed primarily with children in mind (Target Audience). Sometimes you find yourself wondering around a lot of wide open spaces (No pun intended Adults ;P), running to the next object every little while gets old. But, these spaces and levels are visually pleasing and have some wonderful graphics. Plus, there is a horde of mini games along the way, almost too many sometimes, definitely designed for the Adderall generation.
Overall this is a fun game that I highly recommend to any age, whether entertaining the kids, having family fun, or for nostalgia's sake it is a lot of fun, what Mario is all about.

This has got to be one of the best games out there right now. If you love the Mario character and even more if you're returning to gaming. This system and game are great together. The game is not to hard however is challenging and always changing up scenery, and different courses. I really enjoy this game for the clarity, perfect picture, music sounds. I can send hours with this game either on the hand held counsel or switched on to y TV set.

Think Mario 64 except more open-world with new innovative controls and mechanics there are more amazing platforming best 3d Mario game to date your hat is your weapon and it talks which is pretty cool you can buy tons of outfits with coins you collect hours upon hours of gameplay its completely worth the 60 bucks Nintendo has done it again if you yearn for the days of Mario 64 and the Golden Age of Gaming this is the game for you 10 out of 10 worth every penny

I was a little worried that the hype that this game was receiving was going to be way overblown and the game not live up to it but I'm so glad I was wrong. It feels like a subtle blend of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy in play style. The levels are really enjoyable and Nintendo has, like with BotW, made the game where you can tinker around with doing things in odd ways and it pay off.
Side note, the best way to play to me might have to be joycon in each hand.

This game was a joy to play from start to finish. A tremendous celebration of Mario throughout the years, paying homage and taking strides into a bright future for the 3D line of the franchise. Simple and easy enough for the very young and inexperienced, but complex and mature enough for us seasoned players to enjoy as many hours as we want. Made my son jump with excitement, and made me smile like a 10yr old boy again, reminded of the many reasons we love this franchise. Can’t recommend this enough; a must have for the Nintendo Switch.

This game brings back memories and feelings that only come with the greatest Mario releases. This title is right up there with the best of them: Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Mario 64, and Galaxy 1/2. The game mechanics feel fresh and inspiring. I could not put the controller down. Just one more moon.... and then just one more after that... and before you know it, it's been 12 moons and on to the next kingdom. A definite must-buy for all switch owners.

This game can be very challenging but it’s definitely a fun game to play. The puzzles are fun to figure out and platforming is still there like the traditional Mario games. The scenery and graphics to each world are very creative.

I am just lost for words. The spirit of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine lives on in this game. It was as if I stepped into a portal to my childhood. I highly recommend the "single joy-con in each hand" motion control scheme. The motions controls feel so intuitive and really enhance the gameplay. Cappy serves as a great sidekick, with his boomerang and capture abilities providing a refreshing take on the classic 3D Mario Mechanics. Visually, it is a gorgeous game. It maintains 60 fps consistently in both mobile and docked. There seems to be a variety of different environments in this game, unlike Super Mario Galaxy and Sunshine. While those games followed a common theme, Odyssey takes influence from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World in that there is a (Spoilers) desert world, ghost world. tropical world, metro world, etc. The music is phenomenal. I recommend that everyone use a headset to truly appreciate it. I had chills running down my spine once I heard the theme from the Switch Presentation Trailer for Odyssey. No other franchise has made as big of an impact on the gaming industry as Mario. He is the Micky Mouse of gaming. This game can be enjoyed by anyone. Enthusiast gamers. Father/Mother playing with his or her kids. Teenagers. Anyone. They have absolutely blown me away with putting out masterpieces such as Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. These 2 games make the Switch worth it. I must also add that this year has been incredible for gaming. Besides Mario and Zelda, we had Persona 5, Cuphead, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier, Nioh, Divinity. Instead of debating Game of the Years. We should declare 2017 as the Year of the Games. I hope everyone enjoys these games as much as I have.

well, it was bound to happen. The kids got into Nintendo. Previously, my son played Lego City on XBOX & would watch me play some Forza. On occasion I'd pull out the PS3 and play some Marvel vs Capcom... but I decided he was ready for Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda and HO BOY what a rabbit hole we fell into. Since then we've gotten the other Mario Switch games (Maker 2, Paper, 3D All-Stars, etc)... gotten into ROMs, custom Flash games... I suppose cosplay & mushroom-induced hallucinations inside a labyrinth of pipes & toadstools is the logical next step. Anyway, this game is PERFECT: the controls, the music, the gameplay. Previous Mario 3D games seem so janky compared to this, or maybe I'm just bad at old Mario 3D games. Odyssey is one of the greatest games I've ever played, and it made my son appreciate Nintendo as one of our civilizations' greatest brands in human history (I'm not exaggerating. Think about it. Sony, Xbox, all good too, but Nintendo is NINTENDO, man).

Fun, never boring, game that fluctuates between easy and challenging. It’s like the perfect platformer, and would definitely recommend as one of the first games to get on a Switch. Getting to the story shouldn’t be too hard, but if you plan on getting 100% completion it can get really challenging quick.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't appreciate paying $60 for a digital copy. I took advantage if Black Friday and was not disappointed. This game is an early Switch release, but provides loads if fun. Controls are responsive and Marios moves are great fun when holding a joycon in each hand.

Super Mario Odyssey really is one of the best games for the Switch. The controls and overall playability are just excellent, but that’s a given with Nintendo, isn’t it? It was a great visit to nostalgia with references to the original Super Mario on NES incorporated into the gameplay.
Kids and adult will enjoy it with hours and hours of gameplay. You can even continue playing after the end as well!

As a long time Mario fan, Super Mario Odyssey hits all the right spots. It's platforming is solid, it's gameplay is incredibly fun, and the music is simply astounding. Forced motion controls for some things leaves a little to be desired, while I'm not troubled by it, I can see other people who might be, and it can be a pain to shake the switch when playing it in handheld mode.
Overall, this game is rather solid and a good contender for GoTY.
