One of the best Mario games ever. Brings back the nostalgia of Super Mario 64, but 64 still did it better. Go from Kingdom to Kingdom collect power moons not stars and dress Mario in silly outfits save the princess and maybe get a kiss on the nose and get a cake. Love this game and though controls were hard to pick up at first they are like muscle memory once you get them down.

It is very hard express how enjoyable Super Mario Odyssey is with just words. Nintendo has lovingly crafted an experience that is fantastic from start to finish. Everything feels polished and the world at your fingertips is brimming with things to do and secrets to find. The story is the same as the prototypical Mario story. Your Princess has been captured and it is your job to rescue her but this time with the assistance of your sentient hat Cappy. When I first saw this mechanic in the first trailers, I was very worried it would feel tacked on and hinder the experience but I was delighted to find out that it works seamlessly with Mario's movements. Honestly it is hard to imagine the next Mario game without it.
The ability to posses familiar enemies is a blast and each one lends a new gameplay style to use to traverse each Kingdom and solve puzzles. Another fantastic addition to the game are the 2D side scrolling sections. They are a nice callback to the original Super Mario Bros. though the physics are off compared to the NES classic.
The game can be complete in a few days and at first that may seem like a negative thing but there is so much more content to dive into. This is one of the few, if only, Mario games with robust post-game content. There is much much more I could cover but honestly it is much sweeter to experience it yourself.

Being a console Mario game, I always feel there's that inherent "it's has to be good" vibe to it, and really, this game is awesome! Innovative levels, a TON of moons to collect, and that classic Nintendo fun. If you've played Super Mario 64 then you'll quickly pick up the controls for this game, however, there is the new Cappy mechanic and moves which are a great addition!

I picked this up as a gift for a family member who doesn't usually play video games. She was hooked within minutes. It's easy to advance through the story -- but there's tons of extra areas to explore that require fine-tuned skills. This makes the game great for newbies but also makes it easy to play through again once you've beat it the first time.
Very impressed.

Every video game console needs a "killer app", and this title fits that bill for the Nintendo Switch. The graphics push the machine to its limits, and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't appreciate the aesthetic. My only real gripe is that the wonky motion controls are hit-and-miss, and especially frustrating when its a miss. But overall, a top Switch title.

I've played most of the Mario games, and this is one of the best.
The story is the typical, pun-filled, silly and absurd stuff. It's kiddie. But, the character animation is thoughtful, the gameplay is fun and challenging, the world is colorful even if the characters are flatly developed.
In short, its one of the best 3D platformers I've played in a long time.

After playing Mario Odyssey with my nephew I knew I had to get my own copy. It's the best Mario title since Mario 64 and captures the same sense of fun, adventure and wonder as that game did. The game has a broad range of challenges to keep the completionist engaged, and also has an assist mode to make things less stressful. If you own a Switch this game is a must have!

Growing up I have been a devoted Nintendo fan, and I had my fair share of hours socked into Mario games. I can say without a doubt this game brings back the feeling of playing Mario 64, but with a new twist and new challenges.
The game doesn't take long to beat. About 1-2 days if you breeze through it on the weekend, or about a good week & a half for us working folks. "Completionist" might take longer, due to the game wanting you to backtrack and explore other locations in the worlds. The game graphics are captivating and the colors are vibrant and refreshing. The motion controls bring a new concept that can not be compared to the wii or wii U games, which is a good thing considering the switch is trying to break from the mold.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoy the game. I continue to go back to it and explore places and attempt to get tricky moons (that are not required to beat the game) and find little easter eggs that Nintendo snuck into the game to give that little extra TLC.
This game is recommend for all levels (/expertise) and ages. This game gives an option for beginner players (be it kids or adults) for help and walk through, but it also rewards the devoted experts who can do without the help who can rethink the motion mechanics and reach platforms of negative space that have rewards at the top.

There were a lot of additions to this game that have never been included in previous Mario games, for good and for bad. Great controls, clever platforming, and loads of fun. Some of the worlds (New Donk City) and elements of the worlds (T-Rex and scooters) didn’t seem to match with traditional Mario games. Still, I had tons of fun and was sad when I finished it.

I love this game. It takes the classic Mario that we all know and love it puts it into an open world type game, where you can explore everything. If you love discovering hidden treasures and secrets, then this is definitely the game for you. The controls feel smooth, and the game is so much to fun to play around in. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested.

This game is wonderful! An absolute must have for Switch owners. Great for young and old players. Fun and challenging enough to keep you engaged without making you angry about it’s difficulty. Amazing mix of open world exploration with old school 2D platforming that makes me smile every time it comes up in the game. Can’t recommend this highly enough! Go get it now!

What more can I say other than it's a really fun game. Lots of cool nostalgia bits here and so many places to explore in each world. It may be less than what you can find in super mario 64, but each world is so much bigger. The number of moons you can find is simply staggering, but some really are just too easy to find. Other than that, it's a perfectly fun game!
