Fun game, still gives you some classic Mario aspects but with a fun twist on the 3D world

What can I say? It's the Mario platform adventure title for the best selling Nintendo of all time. Graphics are amazing, the game control is great, the design of the levels are awesome and it's super fun as Mario takes on the likeness of all kinds of different characters. You can pretty much separate this game into two different categories of difficulty. As you play through the game and chase Bowser across the globe the gameplay is pretty simple and relaxing. As a 30+ year old dude, don't judge me I'm a life long Mario fan, the main challenges were easy to accomplish and it was easy to progress to the next worlds. I was able to play along side with both my 9 year old and 13 year in 2 player mode, they are both typically terrible at video games so it was nice to be able to sit down and have a positive experience with them as they played the beginning levels. After defeating Bowser the challenges became more difficult and sometimes precise controls are required. While this is more frustrating it is also challenging so if you are looking for a fun relaxing title to enjoy or need the challenge of finding every last moon piece. There's also plenty of fun side challenges along the way. This is a must play for any Mario fan or frankly anyone who owns a Switch.

This is a really fun game to play with someone else. I have been playing this with my daughter and she really enjoys it. I love games like this and we will have a good time getting through this game.

We were so glad to get this game when it finally released! It’s the whole reason we got a Switch (well, it and Mario Kart). The whole family loves playing Mario games and this one did not disappoint. My 8-yo has almost beat the game. We would absolutely recommend this one!
It is a lot different than the other Mario games and it is challenging. Our only complaint is that it’s not all that fun if you’re wanting to play with 2 players — who wants to just be a hat thrown around?!

This is a modern classic Mario game that has retro throwbacks interwoven in some of the obstacles. Adding to the dynamic open world concept, Mario's hat allows you to become your adversaries to complete obstacles. You collect moons hidden in each world on a journey to save the princess from Bowser. Well made, and likely one of the key reasons the Nintendo Switch has been such a wildly popular console.

I really love this game it’s really enjoyable and has amazing graphics! The only downside is it can be quite challenging to get to the next levels. If you are patient and don’t mind the challenging levels then you will definitely love this game. Fun for one or two players and a must have for the Nintendo Switch.

I've grown up with Nintendo. From the NES days to today, Mario platformers have been a huge part of my gaming life. Super Mario Odyssey is no exception. It takes the great story telling and control dynamics of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy all in one. What amazes me is the different ways to approach challenges in the worlds. It creates a great open world dynamic that you come to expect from the new Nintendo Switch era. After I finish this game, I diving back into Skyrim!

Overall, I enjoyed this traveling adventure with Mario. Most of the worlds were interesting, the game-play was fun, and there were plenty of things to collect for those of us who enjoy such a thing.
There were a few things that detracted from my enjoyment though, hence the not-perfect score.
While I was able to finish the game, some platforming needed to get optional collectables needed absolute perfect timing (and I am well-past my twitch-reflex prime). Also, some of Mario's moves require motion controls, so if you are using a PowerA or similar controller, these will not be possible. Then there is the Luncheon Kingdom, which I gave up on moon collecting quickly for because of the frikin' lava.
So, overall a good game, but you might want to tear your hair out if you try to go for 100% of collectibles.

This is yet another outstanding game to come out on the switch. If you played and enjoyed MARIO 64 then you will love this game. There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the hat attacks and jumps but that quickly passes and you are off on your adventure. There is an outstanding amount of content in this game. Almost every world has over 70 power moons to collect and as you collect them new areas and outfits are unlocked. This game is well worth what you pay for it.

If you like Mario, then buy this game. Just stop reading here and get it.
Super Mario Odyssey recaptures the magic of Super Mario in surprising new ways. It brings with it a return to the game play of Mario 64, wherein the world is explored instead of completed. (Unlike Mario 64, the level doesn't end when you obtain a Power Moon; you can keep playing.)
In traditional Mario-style, Peach is yet again kidnapped by Bowser, who is planning a wedding to marry her! Mario tries to stop him, but is beaten back to the Cap Kingdom. Mario meets a local, Cappy, whose girlfriend (a tiara) is worn by Princess Peach. Together they begin their journey. to save their respective sweathearts.
Cappy is with Mario throughout the game. He can be thrown horizontally, vertically, and even in a circle! He serves as an attack, a way to collect coins, to deflect or destroy projectiles, to act as a platform, and to capture enemies! This final technique provides the most variety for the game, as Mario essentially becomes the captured creature/enemy! Mario can capture a LOT of characters from frogs, to turtles, to fish, to Bullet Bills!
In order to go from one Kingdom to the next they find and repair their hat-shaped ship, the Odyssey. Power Moons are required to do this.
The goal then, is to collect enough Power Moons to upgrade the Odyssey to travel to the next kingdom. These Power Moons are scattered all over each kingdom, and there's no required order in which to collect them.
The game starts off quite easy and gives you plenty of time to explore at your leisure. This makes completing the game relatively easy, and I found I finished the story without too much difficulty as only 124 moons are required to complete the story. However, there are a total of 880 unique Power Moons waiting to be discovered. (During the course of the story, a second set of Power Moons are unlocked.) The post-story gameplay of finding and collecting Power Moons kept me playing for many more hours. Some of these moons are quite challenging to collect!

Super Mario Odyssey is an excellent game for the Nintendo Switch. It’s one of the few, and best, games that really utilizes the most performance out of this game system. There are literally hundreds of hours you can put into the game combined with the story mode and extras.
Highly recommend purchasing and keeping in the long run if you have a Nintendo Switch. It’s already a classic in my library that I will go back to every so often whenever I have some free time to game.
