Man, what a game- this is easily one of my favorite Mario titles since the Galaxy game’s, and may even be one of my fav games of the year- gorgeous graphics, great music, plenty of charm and character, super-tight controls, and tons of interesting gameplay mechanics! This game is for any Jumpman-fan (ooh, that’s catchy- don’t let me forget that) who feels that the series has lost its creativity in recent years- the game takes an extremely nonlinear, open-ended approach similar to Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine, and it pays off because this is one of the most fresh and inventive Mario games to come out in a while, largely thanks to a slew of creative mechanics like Mario’s hat, capturing enemies and of course the utterly fab outfits that you can wear- work that sombrero, Mario!! There’s a heck of a lot to do in this game- over 800 power moons in the game (which are basically power stars/shines). Only 100 are needed to complete the main story, and 500 in order for other stuff (an alter net ending I think? I honestly have no idea, haven’t beat the game yet), but that doesn’t matter because the game is so dang fun you’ll want to go hunting for every single moon and every single outfit. If I have any gripes, it’s that some moves can only be performed with the Joy Con’s motion controls, but that’s a pretty minor gripe at least for me- they really aren’t that intolerable and even a bit intuitive. Just wish I could climb poles faster without shaking my left hand like a maniac in the middle of public, though. Even despite this gripe, Mario Odyssey is a must-play for ANY Switch owner- definitely one of the killer apps for the system thus far along with Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Snipperclips. Get it ASAP!! -Tristan

This game has influence from every other Mario game before it, and it's amazing. From the 2D sections inspired from Super Mario Bros., to the open-world format of Super Mario 64, and many audio and visual cues of many other Mario games, this game is seriously packed with detail! There's so much do to with this game, I'll be playing this for a while, and will probably find myself replaying it soon after, now that I have a better grasp of the controls.

Fantastic game, loads of stuff to collect and plenty challenging enough for a quick run through an area. Good laughs and set design on each planet along with costume changes that are purely cosmetic (unless you're unlocking further progress, but still.) Not recommended to play on a switch lite due to the joycon twirls being pretty useful but it can be done.

It is a fun game. Seems to be harder than the original super mario64 on nintendo 64. Multiplayer is fun!

Hours of fun! I like the option of two player. However I wish two player was actually two players. Instead one player is the hat and the other player is Mario. It can get close to impossible to play with two players if you don't work together and communicate. This is basically a one player game. Kids don't work that well together when playing a video game.

It's amazing. The next great Mario adventure had arrived. That's all there is to it..... they really know how to up the Annie at nintendo.... it's a little hard for the little ones to really grasp, so it's probably a good idea to sit with them and assist some of they're 7 years or younger id say... kinda tricky is all. Still super easy to play overall.

It's so easy to get sucked into this game, and I find myself playing several hours at a time! I love how vibrant the settings are, and there's just so much to explore in each world. One of my favourite things is possessing new enemies and inanimate objects. It keeps the gameplay from ever getting stale. Best one is the dinosaur, of course. Mowing everything down is incredibly satisfying. Definitely recommended for long time and new Mario fans.

I have an Xbox 1, 3ds, Nintendo switch, nes classic and snes classic. I mention this because despite having all of those platforms Mario odyssey might be my favorite game to play all year. I play a range of games, from sports to cod, batman to Tetris and have no bias to Nintendo. The game is fun, beautiful, and the concept of taking control of the environment and creatures is so much fun. Do yourself a favor and buy this game right now.

    Another Reason to Switch

Mario Odyssey, despite being a title I mistype 90% of the time, is the true successor to Mario 64. Personally, I've always been in that fringe of people who weren't huge fans of the Galaxy games. I found them a bit too linear, and bit too cumbersome to play as a result of the Wii being the Wii. On the other hand, I loved Sunshine. I loved 64. Because these games had great movement, jumping, spinning, going fast, going high, all of it felt great and they're still replayable to this day in a way the Galaxy games or even 3D World aren't. There always seemed to be something new to figure out or something that I thought maybe no one else had discovered (of course they had, this is the internet). A special sense of exploration that's been missing until Odyssey. Finally, Nintendo has brought back movement being an art form in Mario. Varied kingdoms and an ocean of moons to collect. Odyssey is probably the beefiest Mario there's ever been. It isn't perfect, the difficulty curve is a bit too flat until some end game stuff, which in all honesty makes the main story pretty short. Around 8 hours or so. The overabundance of moons sort of detracts from the value of doing hard challenges for them. Of course, that won't stop people like me from making a challenge of the game via speedrunning, or self-imposed challenges of some variety. The game is just fun to move around in, so making my own fun is least the challenging thing in the game. Even without those challenges, there's at least 30 hours of content to truly get 100%. Odyssey deserves it's spot on the shockingly long list of Game of the Year 2017 contenders. Nintendo continues to make Switch's first year incredible. Keep up the momentum.

Wow. Nintendo is pulling out all the stops. This game is absolutely incredible. The best Mario game since Super Mario 64, which I also hold in high esteem. This one pulls on the nostalgia strings while adding so much creativity in gameplay and level design. May be on the difficult end for younger players, but still has a lot to offer for a wide variety of ages. Co-op looks like it'd be fun, but I don't know if I can convince my wife to play.

This is one of the best games I have ever played and I've been gaming since the NES back in the very early 90s as a 4 year old. This lives up to the hype and having to wait so many years in between Mario games has always been worth it. I'm more excited to play the game every time I pick it up than I was the last time. It's that good of a game. Great mechanics, great game play and graphic and a bunch of great nods to the classic Mario games.

Ever since I got my Nintendo Switch and finished Zelda, I've been waiting for SMO to come out. Once I got my hands on the game and dove in, I was completely blown away by how amazing it was! The graphics, the control, the ability to stop in the middle of the game to take care of things and jump right back in. I loved Mario 64, and this game takes everything amazing about that game, intensifies it, and gives it a nice polish for this generation

A really great game for the whole family can enjoy. If you are on the fence about purchasing it, just buy it. I was hesitant at first about buying it because I wasn’t sure my younger kids were old enough to learn how to play. I was very wrong and they picked up on it rather quickly. Just do yourself a favor and buy it.

This game is surprisingly fun. There are so many iterations of Mario, but this adventure is unique. Graphics and concept are super cool. The adventure game play in the different worlds are really clever. Only downside is that is is a fairly easy game to beat. The "2nd player" capability of Cappy isn't really a multiplayer feature - it's pretty much a single player game with the hat being able to take out some mushrooms. Still fun.
