It is very hard express how enjoyable Super Mario Odyssey is with just words. Nintendo has lovingly crafted an experience that is fantastic from start to finish. Everything feels polished and the world at your fingertips is brimming with things to do and secrets to find. The story is the same as the prototypical Mario story. Your Princess has been captured and it is your job to rescue her but this time with the assistance of your sentient hat Cappy. When I first saw this mechanic in the first trailers, I was very worried it would feel tacked on and hinder the experience but I was delighted to find out that it works seamlessly with Mario's movements. Honestly it is hard to imagine the next Mario game without it.
The ability to posses familiar enemies is a blast and each one lends a new gameplay style to use to traverse each Kingdom and solve puzzles. Another fantastic addition to the game are the 2D side scrolling sections. They are a nice callback to the original Super Mario Bros. though the physics are off compared to the NES classic.
The game can be complete in a few days and at first that may seem like a negative thing but there is so much more content to dive into. This is one of the few, if only, Mario games with robust post-game content. There is much much more I could cover but honestly it is much sweeter to experience it yourself.

"Why cover the same ground again? ... It goes against my grain to repeat a tale told once, and told so clearly." - Homer, The Odyssey
While Mario may be the same tale told time and time again, Mario Odyssey is covering new ground on the Nintendo Switch and in a wonderful way.
The game play will keep you coming back for more. The" gotta collect em all" mentality is in full effect here, but the kingdoms are so fun and vibrant, you want to explore every nook and cranny.
Overall an amazing upgrade to the 3D Marios and one I enjoyed exploring more than Sunshine or Galaxy. Some retro kingdom DLCs would be a welcome addition as the game is quite short, which is the only negative about Odyssey.
PS - Look online and learn how to do the cappy mid-air dive and jump. It opens up the game and let's you do a lot more exploring.

This is my first Nintendo Switch game and I am addicted to it. It can be challenging but be patient and keep trying and you will learn strategies for earning moons. As you go on, you keep getting better at performing skills that help you keep earning enough moons to get to the next kingdwom

Oh. My. Gosh. If you feel like Nintendo's plumbing hero has been missing in your life, this is the game for you. Long time Mario fan? Buy the game. Nintendo fan? Buy the game. Own a Nintendo switch? Buy the game. Don't own a switch? Buy a switch AND the game. Great storyline, beautiful graphics, and enjoyable and frustrating platforming and puzzles. You won't be disappointed.

It had been a long time since I played a Mario game. So, when I recently bought a Switch, I decided I should revisit the delightful little plumber who I first encountered almost 30 years ago. This game didn’t disappoint. It incorporates fun new game mechanics with great bits of old school nostalgia mixed in.

When I read the details of this game, it reminded me of the old GameCube game 'Super Mario Sunshine' and, in all honesty, after playing it for days on end, it is exactly that and I couldn't be more thrilled with the purchase. If you, too, had the GameCube and enjoyed Mario then, I assure you'll enjoy him now, too!

I've always loved Mario platformers. But, while the Galaxy games were great, I missed the more open ones, like 64 and Sunshine. Well, Odyssey is the most open and free Mario ever! I feel like I can do whatever comes to mind, and I'm usually rewarded with a Moon for my troubles. And I can't forget about the movement, which is the best I've ever felt in any game I've played.

As a more than casual but not quite hardcore gamer, I love the simple yet deep gameplay of Super Mario Odyssey and all the delight that comes with this kind of game, of course.
Collecting all the moons and purple coins hasn’t felt like a chore even 8 hours into the game! I’m hoping for DLC to expand this world and game so I can enjoy more of this truly fun Switch title!

I like Mario games but I wouldn't consider myself a die hard fan. This game though has probably been one of the first games this year i truly like. Its simple enough that my 5 year can play and not get frustrated but it also offers a challenge to those who want to collect moons. Very satisfied with my purchase Kudos Nintendo this and Zelda has justified my switch purchase.

This game is like a indirect sequel of mario 64, something that you would play more that one time or one time until you get the 100% of collectibles. Definitely a must get for the switch

Breath of the Wild is a must buy, no doubt, but this is arguably the second must buy for the Switch. Even if you're not a diehard Mario fan, I'm not (my wife is though), this game really is pretty addictive to play. Some open-worldness exploration to it, experimentation with figuring out puzzles, great visuals, the list goes on. Don't pass up this awesome game experience!
