I collect these limited edition movies as a hobby. I had had a hard time reaching customer service about this problem. Nevertheless, I still watched the movie in it was good. I am not happy about the damage.

This is an excellent else worlds story by Mark Millar. Like all of the Best Superman stories, the heroism is in the ethics and moral compass of the Man of Steel! Some of the stories deserve sequels. This adaptation was even more streamlined than the book in my opinion.

    Superheroes: Born that way?

Does your upbringing determine one's moral code? Or are we hardwired from birth to be good or evil? The animated version of Mark Millar's graphic novel--like the book itself--tries to answer the question, but it's complicated. While the infant Kal-El's landing in the Soviet Union exposes him to a different ethos than that which might've influenced him, had Martha and Jonathan Kent raised him, he nevertheless comes to believe the ideals espoused under Communism, only discovering later (courtesy of a Lois Lane who never worked with Clark Kent) that Stalin's regime doesn't practice the lofty-yet-ignored virtues it preaches. After Stalin's fate, upon Kal-El's discovery of gulag horror (if you think Zod had a bad end in Man of Steel, think again) the Soviet Superman feels sincerely compelled to make the system he grew up under work for everyone (ironically, by compelling others to make it work). He also alters the outcome of the Korean War, and unites the entire peninsula under Communism--although, given what happened to Stalin, it's unlikely that human rights there will be abused, if Kal-El has anything to say about it. Despite his best efforts, however, it's too little, too late for some, despite his ruling the USSR as a benevolent despot. The consequences of his altered life story on world history are interesting. In addition to his actions in Korea, the Berlin Wall (a short-lived one) is built, not by Communists, but by a panicked West, to keep Kal-El's Soviet troops out of Western Europe. There's also a longer-lived JFK administration in 1967, but it isn't spelled out what happened to make that possible. Also, Superman as a Russian Premier alters the fates of other superheroes as well, as Wonder Woman's homeland pursues diplomatic relations with Kal-El's adoptive nation, Hal Jordan becomes part of a defense force (created as a response to Kal-El) resulting from U.S. military research reverse engineering and weaponizing the Green Lantern ring he might otherwise have used for himself, and an alternate Batman, a Russian Gulag survivor, whose origin story in a deep, dark prison pit is closer to that of the DC Comics villain, Bane (not a Batman created by the resources of capitalist Bruce Wayne), is a cold-blooded urban guerilla determined to end Kal-El's futile attempt to better the world. And even without Superman as an American foil, Lex Luthor still becomes his adversary, albeit in a Cold War context. This makes an odd sort of sense; given how the real-life Cold War was often waged by those who weren't above using amoral or unethical means to fight Communism, where else but here would Luthor be seen as a hero to the West, ironically enough? Sure, the epilogue denies us the bizarre conclusion seen in the book (an ending far stranger than that found in most Twilight Zone episodes), but I still found it satisfactory.

    A Great Animation Adaptation

Superman Red Son is one of the most beloved comic storylines for Superman fans as an “elseworlds” tale that complete subverts how we’ve all known Superman and look at him as an icon of Americana. This animated film adapts and celebrates all the best components of the book and doesn’t change things for the sake of changing them like adding more action sequences or things like that. It’s loyal to the source material while providing a great new way for fans of the original comic to get something new out of the story without tarnishing what they love about it. This set also comes with a free digital redemption code and several special features including a new animated short of the Phantom Stranger and a behind the scenes look at the next upcoming animated movie Justice League Dark Apocalypse War.

Maybe not better than Batman Beyond's Return of the Joker but, I'm going to say tied with it. I'm not sure that an upgrade to 4K is worth it for this type of animation but, forget the technical aspects, let's talk about the film. Basically perfect. It adheres closely to the story line (the reason I can't stand Hush) and captures all the feels that made the graphic novel great. It pulls no punches and yet doesn't go over the top and off topic with a flown in Batgirl makeout scene (I'm looking at you Killing Joke) or something equally ridiculous. It does get the dynamics of the main characters essentially right. It's a great alternate timeline/universe story done perfectly.

Great Adaptation to the Comic Book

This is one of my favorite Superman Elseworlds Stories. I was happy to see they were making this into an animated film. Although they did not use Mark Millar's epilogue, the animated movie is pretty much a good adaptation of the comic. What if, instead of Kal-El's rocket landed in Kansas, it lands in Russia? He becomes an agent of the Soviet Union, and suddenly the United States is no longer the most powerful nation on Earth. Other DC superheroes are now affected: Batman is an orphan whose parents were dissidents, killed by the state. Wonder Woman is smitten by him. And the Green Lantern Corps...? Highly recommended.

The strong point about this movie is the narration... Tight editing, background score and good dialogues and very good character development all worked in synergy. Superman crashes to USSR and how his communist ethics affects Superman,we all know: a hope is very effectively portrayed. Lex, Lois ,have a very interesting storyline... And their roles were very strong, too. Wonder woman is awesome.... and she ably supports superman...But it is the Batman that is makes a tremendous impact even with lesser screen time... (I wanted more of this Batman) . He was ruthless and elegant at the same time. The action, especially between Batman and Superman is praiseworthy For any animation film... The animation should be of top notch.... And this film does not disappoint... I enjoyed this movie in every frame.

I’m a hardcore fan of this character so was over the moon when they announced it. Very pleased that it also got this amount of attention from bestbuy with the collectors pack. The figure looks like something you get out of a dollar tree so it’s not even worth looking at up close. The movie was good but needed to be at least an hour longer and needed more action. It didn’t get into the hard decision making of the comic but touched up a little on everything just enough to make you want more. I would totally rewatch this as being a fan but this is not the Superman that you are expecting or want.

I have to preface this review by stating that I haven't read the comic version of Superman Red Son, so I don't have a basis of comparison for this animated version. The story was interesting and clever in how the characters stayed true to their natures, albeit from an opposing view point. The animation as well as the voice casting is top notch. Having Diedrich Bader's voice come out of Lex Luthor's mouth was (at first) head turning, but then made perfect sense for this version of LL. If I was to be nit-picky, I would have liked to see the bonus Superman figurine look more like how Superman appeared in the movie. I would recommend adding this movie to your DC Animation library.

It was nicely done based on the DC Elseworld comic done in 2003. DC did the Elseworld comic series kinda like Marvel did their What If? comic series with new twists and origins on characters. It was a nice twist based on how would Superman be if he was raised up in the Soviet Union instead of a farm boy in Kansas, USA. It stuck to the original story line and had great voice over work. If your a Superman fan, then this is worth buying. It has a nice twist on others like Batman, Wonder Woman, Lois, and Lex. I only gave it four stars because even though it's a nice stand alone movie, it could've been a little better.

I had not read the graphic novel before seeing this so I had no expectation for it. What a great ride it was. The animation was good. The storyline was engaging. The whole experience was really a lot of fun and gave a new twist to a classic story. After seeing this I read the graphic novel and felt that outside a few creative liberties (no pun intended), this story was well done and stayed mostly true to the source materials. It's definitely a movie I can rewatch every couple of months.

I bought this movie to add to my collection of DCA universe movies. This movie did not disappoint, it's a stand alone movie as in not connected to any previous storylines. This movie explores a new take on Superman and what could have happened if Kal-El aka Superman land in Russian instead of the countryside of the United States. It's an interesting take on the mythos of one of the most well known superheroes of comic book history. If you're a Superman fan or even a DC fan in general this movie should be on your list of must watch.

Superman has been around over 80 years, but that doesn't stop people from continuously reinventing the Man of Steel. In this story, we explore what might have been had Superman grew up in the Soviet Union instead of the United States. Despite growing up under a different ideology, it tells the story of Superman still trying to make the world a better place. But he finds himself confronted by the likes of Lex Luthor and Batman in the brand new reality. A definite recommend for Superman, DC or comic book fans alike.

The best thing for me in buying these DVDs are the BB exclusive figures that are included. They're not the best quality, but they are a great addition for a collector. As for the movie itself, not a bad story line IMO considering i never read the actual comics that this movie was based on. I love when these movies show a whole different take on the characters we have grown up with for years and decades for some. These movies arent for children, there is a lot of gore and in some cases profanity, so Buyer Beware.

This is a pretty cool story premise. When Superman was a baby, his home planet of Krypton was dying. In order to save his life, his parents placed him in a rocketship & launched it into outer space before the destruction of Krypton. After a long journey, he ended up on Earth, in Russia instead of Kansas. With he becoming the most powerful being on Earth & a symbol of the Communist Soviet Union, the U.S.A. must try to, by any means necessary, thwart this nemesis.

This alternate history of Superman is compelling... historical characters and events made different are an interesting background to the struggle a person of goodness and power has trying to right the wrongs in the world...how far will he go for peace...or will he fall victim to the trappings of power like all other men.

This is a really good animated movie, that tells a very interesting and engaging story that is relevant to current times. Superman Red Son is a favorite of mine, and I have read the comic and watched the stop motion comic. This adaptation takes a few too many liberties with the source material, but is an extremely solid adaptation.
