I needed a new DVD player for a living room that will only received occasional use, therefore was looking for the least expensive DVD player. Well, this one does meet my requirements with the added benefit of up-scaling with an HDMI cable connection. And at 33% off BB's normal price, I just could not pass this up. PROS: Inexpensive, upscaling with HDMI cable (not provided), inexpensive, small footprint, and a remote with many features. Output options includes HDMI, component, composite, and coaxial jacks. And includes a composite (L/R/Video) cable. CONS: If you setup this player with upscaling the output of a DVD (change default 480p setting to 720p or 1080i/p), then power the unit off, at the next power on it will default back to 480p. Although the remote has many buttons with all kinds of features, it is so small that it can be difficult to only select one of the tiny buttons. BOTTOM LINE: For the amount paid, coupled with the occasional use, it is a super deal, a real 5-Stars. But If you are looking for a primary player, one that you want up-scaling on without resetting at each power on, then this is an average 3-Star player. WOULD I RECOMMEND TO A FRIEND? Since there is no "Maybe", only "Yes" / "No" options, I selected "Yes" but with the caveat of explaining the up-scaling resetting requirement at every power on.

If I could give this zero stars, I would. The very first DVD I tried to play worked for about two thirds of the movie, but close to the end, it skipped. That by itself is not a big deal (of course, DVDs scratch sometimes). But, instead of skipping, it locked completely up. No chapter skip, fast forward, or even getting back to the menu would work. It just made horrible spinning and grinding noises. So, I gave up on that particular DVD and tried a second one. My second attempt was a two-episode thing. I made it to the end of Episode One, and was waiting for it to go on to the next episode, as I had done dozens of times before with this favorite DVD. It never did. I could hear the disc spinning and grinding in the player just like the first one, and it never continued. All I could see was a black screen after the credits had played through. Eventually, it let me get back to the menu. When I tried to select "play episode two" instead of my previous choice of "play all," once again, the DVD would not play at all. I got more spinning and grinding noises, and a pixelated menu for my trouble. Neither of these DVDs were damaged beyond repair; both of them will play on another player. One DVD messing up is one thing; a coincidence. Two in a row only one day after getting the device out of its box is a defective DVD player. In addition, the return policy for Best Buy is horrific. After trying to click on the return button, and confirming my stupid email, I got an error message saying that my return could not be processed online. That I have to go to a store. Thanks to that, the next time I need anything electronic, I'm definitely not coming to Best Buy, either in person or online.

My mom's DVD player finally bit the bullet after many years of watching countless DVDs. She doesn't know or care about HD movies. She has 42" 720p television that we bought for her years ago. I almost bought her a blu-ray player, but I couldn't justify spending extra for something that would never ever get used. It's hard for her to use new electronics. So whenever I buy any electronics devices for her, simplicity is key. This DVD player is as basic as it can get. It's crazy hard to find simple electronics nowadays for the older generation. This fit the bill nicely. She can work the player herself so this one is a successful purchase.

I bought this TV to replace an old 32 inch insignia that I got from Best Buy about 6 years ago. Anything is an upgrade over that, but so far this TV has impressed me! Out of the box, including time to wipe down the stand, I probably had it up and running including the hookup to the HD cable box within 10 minutes. So far, it’s great! Great picture, sound, everything you’ve come to expect from an LG is right here. I’m no techie but I know my way around electronics fairly well and this TV is ridiculously simple to use! Here’s hoping it lasts more than 6 years (btw the insignia is still perfect, just too small of a screen size). Only qualm is that the power cord is a bit too short but it reached the power strip I had next to the TV. Just a heads up if you don’t have a close outlet or strip.

I bought this player as an add on for the kids to watch movies, nothing more. It was incredibly affordable and the basic functionality makes it easy to operate. My only complaint was that the remote did not include batteries which is unusual. It is easiest to use with the remote, but operation from the front panel is not bad. With the remote, tune the TV to the correct HDMI input, then power on the player using the remote, press eject, drop in a DVD, press eject to close the drawer, hit play and that's it. Simple, and again, the price was great.

Does a good job displaying normal DVDs on my 43 inch 4K TV. Only goes up to 1080p, and you have to change the display settings each time you put in a disc or it auto changes to 480p. Make sure to have the remote handy and read the manual and it’ll work just fine. I spent some time messing around with the settings to customize to my liking, I would highly recommend this to someone who has a collection of DVDs and doesn’t want to spend big money on a Blu Ray player.

Out of the box this dvd player hangs on every disc i try on it. It has to be manually directed to go to the main menu or it'll just black screen after previews. Forget about pushing playall for tv shows, I'm lucky if it makes it through an entire episode, and I'll have to open and close the disc tray to get it to go to back to the main menu if I want to see the next episode. Utterly broken.

we got 1 good day, this is one of the worst DVD players i have ever bought. it lasted a total of 1 week. and they get VERY loud and wouldn't read the disk any more. a lot of people complained about the remote but for the size of the dvd player that was the least my my problems with it. we watched 2 movies on it and then we had to return it. its not worth they money even though this is very cheap.

If you are looking for a DVD player that will play all formats with a 1080p upconversion technology, look no further because this one right here is the best. Works very well on my Smart Samsung TV. The picture quality is great. My son enjoyed watching his favorite movies. The picture is clean and neat. I would recommend to anyone who wants a good DVD player at a bargain price. You can't beat it!!

This DVD player does what I got it to do - play DVDs. My only issues with it are: 1) it doesn’t play movies in full screen (unless there is a way and I haven’t figured it out yet). 2) It makes noises when the DVD is in, almost like the DVD is spinning too fast and is scratching against something inside. 3) You have to keep turning off the subtitles when you play a new DVD.

Now I know for 20 bucks I shouldn’t expect much. But I would expect for a product to work more that 1 month and a half. DVD player stopped working and Best Buy return policy is only 14 days, so I’m out of luck. If you want to take your chance for $20 bucks, go ahead. But I say, save it and spend the extra $10 or $20 for something that will last more than a month or so

Wanted to love it but...I bought this because I wanted the cheapest DVD player I could get with an HDMI connection. I found one with this Sylvania but it would not play the movie without stopping, skipping, sputtering...Tried a couple of different DVDs but it did the same thing with every disc I tried. Returned it and moved up to a slightly more expensive Sony model.

A negative of this inexpensive dvd player is that when you pause it and do not go back to play it within 20 minutes or so, it does not recall where you were so it is a guessing game. To resolve that I hit the "time" function on the remote to see how many minutes are left so it is not such a drawback when this is done.

We were looking for a DVD player that was basic -- no bells and whistles -- dependable, and not expensive. This one was exactly as described, worked right out of the box, and continues to do so. Our only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that the range for the remote is narrow, so that you have to be right in front of the player to get it to respond. No biggie for us!

Set-up was simple but no matter what key I pressed on the unit or the remote, I got a "Invalid Key" message on screen. Except for when I at first pressed Play, it only did so for 15 seconds showing the copyright warning repeatedly and then went black. I returned it to the store. I learned later that Sylvania is no longer even honoring the warranty.

This is a great low-cost DVD player that also has HDMI out to the television. Some other low-cost ones only use component, so when I saw this I jumped at it. Just like any player it can be a bit noisy if the disks aren't perfectly flat. In a few weeks of use, there have been no problems so I would recommend this player.

Perfect for my needs, mainly to watch old movies that aren’t available for streaming. I also use it for the P90x workout system which is just a basic DVD format (no blueray or 4K ultra). My TV is capable for blueray and 4K, but it’s easy to stream all the new movies and shows as they come out. Perfect for my needs!

This DVD player gets its job done! My grandma recently purchased dozens of old films from the 60s/70s that happened to be on DVDs without her having a DVD player. This one seems to be working just fine for her since it's an easy setup and there aren't too many buttons on the DVD player itself to complicate things.

I purchased this DVD player for my sister who lives in a small apartment. Its small size is just right to fit on the tabletop with the 32" TV that we also bought for her. It has an HDMI output which was unique to players in that size and price point. It was the last one available on sale and I'm glad to have found it.
