Customers are saying

Customers recognize the 2-Tuner Digital Video Recorder's Wi-Fi capability as a significant advantage, enabling wireless streaming to multiple TVs and eliminating satellite bills. They also praise its ease of setup and user-friendly interface. However, some users have reported issues with recording quality, including instances of incomplete recordings and occasional interruptions. Addressing these recording concerns would improve the overall user experience.

I’m very happy with my Tablo purchase. Approximately two years ago I decided to “cut the cord” and install an attic antenna to receive just the over-the-air (OTA) TV channels. I started using a DVD recorder/player to record and view my favorite TV programs. It was a very annoying task since it required me to maintain a collection of recordable DVDs which had to be erased each week for recycling and sometimes failed. With Tablo, the process to record and view my favorite programs is much easier and reliable. Tablo is very easy to set up. I installed the Tablo app on our PCs, my wife’s Android tablet, and our Android phones. The installation is straightforward and the software is very easy to use. I now have the ability to watch live or recorded TV programs on all of those devices plus my 2 TVs, which are both equipped with Roku and Chromecast. The “Tablo Connect” feature was easy to activate. I did not have to do anything with the settings of my router. This option allows me to program my Tablo and view live TV or recordings away from home. Streaming through Roku and Chromecast is usually slow. Therefore, I installed the Tablo Ripper software on my PC, which enables me to rip the TV program files contained in the Tablo hard drive to my PC hard drive, in the form of mp4 files. I can then copy these mp4 files to a thumb drive and view them on my TVs without the buffering issues. The Tablo unit tends to run very hot, which could shorten its lifetime. Therefore, I strongly recommend cooling the unit with a laptop cooler. I also use the laptop cooler to cool the Tablo hard drive since its enclosure does not contain a fan. I leave the cooler running all the time since it uses very little energy.

Cutting the cord but needed to be able to record the Packer games. The best feature for me was that it can be used to get the OTA tv to more than one tv wirelessly using streaming devices which we already had. With this we only need on antenna without splitters and cables going to each tv, and we can move the tv's anywhere. A couple hiccups: need to make sure the settings aren't too high on the recording quality, otherwise, it keeps reloading if there is any interference in the signal. And one thing I haven't figured out yet is why it backs out of the channel at the end of each program, but I will be calling the company on that. May be something I need to change in the settings. Overall, a good system. AND only a $5 monthly fee for the guide which is very helpful. I like having my own hard drive to store my own recordings rather than paying a service for it.

    CORD CUTTING SUCCESS!

I absolutely LOVE this ting. it enabled me to cancel directv and still watch the shows I want from OTA channels. This box is only one part of my cord cutting solution, but it works and ti works well. I was a little annoyed at the additional charge for guide data, but paying for lifetime access to the guide data seems to be par for the course, all the other providers do it too. At least Tablo's is reasonable. The other big deal for me: live tv on the current gen AppleTV. For anyone who is using a new AppleTV as the hub of your TV/Home Entertainment system, this box is NECESSARY. Tablo recently came out with their AppleTV app and it works almost flawlessly. All said and done, i'm into the Tablo for roughly the equivelent of 5 months of my satellite service, and I'm okay with that. Can't recommend this thing enough.

I switched from a $120 directv bill to an Antenna, Directv now and netlix. I was already paying for Netflix, so it averaged $80 a month in savings. In that time, I had an issue with connecting my antenna into the basement projector. There were no connections to the projector. I found Tablo information on their website and decided to give it a go. I attempted to go cheap, and try an external SSD that was only 128MB. It formatted fine and worked for about 12 hours. Then the hard drive imploded and I was unable to use the Tablo. You cannot use the Tablo without a hard drive, even live viewing (it records small snippets for playback). So, I finally decided to try my old Seagate 2TB drive. The drive is older and was not recognized by Tablo. I then attempted to connect the Seagate with a micro USB cable (Phone) instead of the 3.0 USB cable it uses. After doing this, the hard drive was recognized and has been working flawlessly since. If you having issues with your hard drive not working, try using a USB 2.0 cable (micro USB/Android charger) instead. Or, spend $50-100 on a new Western Digital Essentials they recommend. I gave it 4/5 because of the issues, even if they were all my fault.

It's an okay product. I love the idea but to switch channels it's about a 10-15 sec lag. I love how it can be played in multiple devices though. However, it wasn't for me so I returned it.

We cut cable, but wanted the ability to record shows to watch at our convenience. We should have purchased this a long time ago, it is great. Our bill went from $167. A month to $35.00 a month for just wifi.

Really good system. I find it is a little slow to load the guide so I give it 4 stars. I thought I could use it without the external hard drive if I was not intending to record but that was not the case. It would not function properly without a hard drive attached.

We love the fact we do not have to pay the bill for satellite anymore. And they were going to charge for local tv too. That when we had enough. We love our Tablo.

This is an awesome tool for roku users. Far better than the tivo roamio ota. Add a hard drive to match your needs. A little stubborn with the type of hard drives to use, however any drives without extra software in them are fine. The yearly service plan of fifty bucks is not bad. I was planning on using the recorder with an antenna since I recently cancelled cable. Unfortunately, an antenna won't really pick up any channels in my location.

I had bought this to use to record programs rather than use the local cable company equipment. This required to many steps to get from one channel to the next, as many as 5 different steps. Plus it was very slow and by the time I could get to the channel I wanted to watch I had missed the first 3 to 4 min of the program. This just wasn't for me, it made watching TV to much work so I returned it.

We went OTA for our TV years ago....got the Tablo a month ago and it is a god send only thing I wish I would have gotten the 4 tuner version. The programming is easy; I use it all the time from laptop to ipad; AirPlay, or roku. It's very effective.

my combination of TABLO and indoor HD antenna looked good at the beginning... very good signal, getting all channels. But, when i started recording shows i start seeing drop in recordings... sometimes it will skip or miss whole show. sometimes it will stop recording in the middle of the show. At this point, i am not sure which is at fault, antenna or TABLO. although every time i checked for signal, it was always very strong... Now i have returned TABLO.

The company recommends a specific hard drive. Buy it if you get this because other drives just won't work. I was about to pull my hair out until their customer service pointed it out. The processing speed is not that fast but it does what I need it to.

TV tuner works great in my area, I am about 40 miles from broadcast towers. HD TV is better than sattilite. Apple TV app works good. You do not need to subscribe to Tablo's TV guide. Their customer service is very responsive. I am using a WD My Passport usb hard drive, even though it's not on the recommended list, so far it is working great.
