Customers are pleased with the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon's image quality and value for the price. Many found it easy to use and well-suited for long-range shots, particularly as a beginner lens. However, some users experienced slow autofocus. Overall, the positive feedback on image quality and affordability outweighs the concerns about focusing speed.

This lens is a buy for the beginner looking to reach out a little further than a 55-200mm lens. works best if you use a tripod at full zoom.

Cons: a little slow in focusing.
Pros: very sharp, price
I have couple Nikon zooms - 18-200m 4.5-5.6 and the 75-300m 4.5-5.6 A62 (built from 1989-1999). This lens is sharper than both of those. I know - shocked me too.

The zoom on this is very shaky. I would spend the extra on a better quality lens. Pictures are blurry a lot of the time because the zoom is not that good. Will be replacing this as soon as I can & take a loss.
