TCL Q‑Series Portable AC - A Cool Lifesaver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing: Heavy, But in a Good Way When the TCL QSeries Ultra-Quiet Dual Hose Inverter Smart Portable Air Conditioner showed up at my door, the first thing I noticed was the weight - about 75 pounds. This thing is *solid*. Definitely a two-person lift unless you’re feeling heroic. But honestly, the weight gave me confidence that this wasn’t another flimsy, disposable portable AC. Inside the box, TCL includes everything you need - and I mean everything. The remote comes with batteries (bless them), the dual-hose system is neatly packed, and the window adapters extend up to 89 inches, which is a lifesaver if you have wide or awkward windows. There’s even a drip hose to route condensation safely, so you’re not dealing with puddles or mystery leaks later. It’s one of the few times I’ve opened an appliance and felt like the company actually thought through the setup experience. Setup: From Box to Cold Air in 15 Minutes I’m not exaggerating when I say this thing is ridiculously easy to install. Even if you’ve never touched a portable AC before, you can have it running in about 15 minutes. No confusing diagrams, no weird tools, no swearing at plastic parts that don’t fit. You pop in the window adapter, twist on the hoses, plug it in, and boom - cold air. When it’s 105°F outside and your house feels like a toaster, that fast setup is everything. And moving it between rooms later is just as simple, which is great if you want to cool your bedroom at night and your living room during the day. Performance: Quiet, Powerful, and Shockingly Good in Desert Heat I live in a brutally hot, dry area, so I’m used to portable ACs struggling. Most of them sound like they’re chewing gravel and barely make a dent in the temperature. This TCL unit is the opposite. It’s *quiet* - genuinely quiet - and the cooling power is impressive. The dual-hose system had me skeptical at first since one hose pulls in scorching outdoor air, but it still cools like a champ. Honestly, it performs on par with a window unit, and in some ways better, because you can move it wherever you need it. The 10,000 BTU rating comfortably handles rooms up to about 450 sq. ft., and it keeps the temperature steady instead of cycling loudly on and off. Smart Features: Cooling That Works Around Your Life The WiFi features are where this AC really steps into modern territory. You can control everything from your phone - temperature, mode, scheduling - and it integrates with your smart home setup if you use voice assistants. If you live in a desert climate, this is a game changer. You can turn the AC on before you get home so you’re not walking into a 110°F oven. Or set schedules so it cools only when you need it, saving energy without you having to think about it. It’s one of those features you don’t realize you’ll love until you have it. Value: Worth the Price, and Then Some Yes, the TCL QSeries costs more than bargain portable ACs. But here’s the thing: it actually *works*, and it’s built to last. Cheaper units burn out, leak, or just can’t keep up with real heat. This one reduces the load on your central AC, which means lower electricity bills and less wear on your main system. Over a summer or two, that alone makes up the price difference. Between the quiet operation, strong cooling, smart features, and overall build quality, it feels like an investment — not a temporary fix. Final Verdict After using it extensively, I can say this is hands-down one of the best portable AC units for hot, dry climates. It cools fast, runs quietly, integrates with your smart home, and saves money in the long run. If you’re tired of portable units that barely keep up, the TCL QSeries is absolutely worth it.

Remarkably quiet unit
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TCL Q-Series portable AC is one of those products that really helps redefine a category that is generally not well liked. I’ve had a few portable ACs in the past, and while they’ve all served their purpose, I’ve pretty much hated them all. This AC is surprisingly different, because it addresses a lot of the pain points I’ve had with portable units over the years. The main thing that stands out is how quiet it actually is. Every portable AC I’ve owned has claimed “maximum cooling with minimal noise,” but none of them have ever been what I would consider quiet… or even pleasant to be around. This one is actually very quiet. I can stand right next to it and have a normal conversation without feeling like I need to raise my voice, which is something I’ve never experienced with a portable unit. This unit is smaller than I expected, but still fairly heavy. The wheels don’t have a locking function, which I would have liked to see. Size matters for my setup though, because I plan to build a support platform and mount this halfway up the wall in my garage, then cut some holds and vent it directly outside. This unit is ideal for this setup because of the dual hose design. Initially I didn’t understand the function of the dual hose, but the more I read about it, the more I realized this will solve my hot garage issue without having to fork out a ton of money for a mini-split. Most portable ACs use a single hose, which pulls air from inside the room to cool the condenser and then exhausts that air outside. That creates negative pressure, which ends up pulling hot air back into the space through gaps and cracks. Since this unit uses a dual hose system, it pulls air from outside for the condenser and keeps the conditioned air inside. It’s a much more efficient design, definitely worth the trade off for having to deal with an extra hose. I spent some time monitoring power draw using an Anker Solix battery, and the behavior here is very consistent. Under full cooling load, I’m seeing around 900–925 watts without any noticeable spikes. Based on the specs (115V / 9 amps), the unit is capable of pulling a little over 1000 watts at peak, so the fact that it’s running below that and staying steady suggests the inverter compressor is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. I kinda nerd out on this stuff, but If you ran this unit at full power 24/7, you’d be looking at roughly 700 kWh per month, which comes out to around $100 depending on your energy rates. That said, this is an absolute worst-case scenario, and very unlikely. Because this unit uses an inverter compressor, it doesn’t just turn on and off like traditional units. Instead, it ramps up and down depending on demand. As the room approaches your target temperature, you’ll see power consumption drops significantly. For example, when I switched it to fan mode, I was seeing power usage in the 25–30 watt range, which is shocking for a unit this size. This is one of those times where opting for a high cost unit will likely save in the long run, because the efficiency of the inverter and dual hose will save on energy consumption. The app setup was fairly straightforward, although there is a bit of an odd pairing sequence. You have to press the fan button several times to put the unit into pairing mode, then scan the QR code on the unit itself. Once connected, it worked without issue. The app essentially functions as a remote control on your phone, with the added ability to set timers. You can schedule the unit to turn on or off after a certain amount of time, but there doesn’t appear to be a way to create more advanced schedules or automation. I was hoping for something closer to a smart home experience, where you could trigger it based on time of day, temperature, or humidity (for example, “dusk to dawn”), but i’m not seeing that level of control. One thing that stood out during setup was the window vent kit. I have a fairly standard size window, and I still had to cut down the panel quite a bit to get everything to line up properly. Without trimming it, the panel actually blocked part of the exhaust openings, which made it impossible to connect the hoses correctly. The instructions mention that trimming may be required, but I don’t really see a scenario where this isn’t required if you are installing the vent kit horizontally in a window. Overall, this feels like a much improved version of the portable ACs I’ve used in the past. It’s still big and clunky, but it’s remarkably quiet and extremely efficient.

Nice portable AC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you’re in the market for a portable ac unit, this TCL model is a great option. The unit comes with everything you need to have the ac up and running within ten minutes of unboxing the machine. You get a drain hose for the condensation, insulation for the window and a remote. The machine has a garden hose hookup so you can do continuous draining instead waiting for it to get full and then draining the machine. The machine is on wheels which makes it easy to move from room to room, plus it has handles built into the side. You can control the machine with either the included remote, the TCL app or you can set it up with Apple HomeKit. If using the app option, use the plus button in the app as that’s the only option I found works for getting the machine and app to work together. When using Apple HomeKit or the app, neither gives you all that many options but Apple HomeKit gives you the option to have the ac unit to automatically turn off once you leave your house. Running `the unit on cool and high and sitting right next to it, the sound measured @ 55 db on my watch. You get 4 speed settings for airflow, it has a sleep function and a timer. This TCL portable ac unit is a great option if it’s your only option for ac in a small area, bringing it with you for camping trips or having it as a backup for emergency situations.

Chill Smarter: TCL's Quiet Powerful Inverter AC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in South Florida where, beside a few cool days during the Winter season, the weather is pretty much hot and humid and necessitates generous use of air conditioning. The TCL T10PQ5SD portable AC proved to be up to the task while being quiet, compact and efficient. The set-up was quick and easy. I installed it next to a 52-inch wide window with the window slider kit and the foam insulation. Then I attached the 2 exhaust hoses to the window slider and the back of the air conditioner, then connected to the wall and put batteries in the remote. In less than 20 minutes, everything was ready to go. This model is Matter compatible and it took a couple of minutes to add it to my Google Home ecosystem with all the main controls. I had difficulties adding it to the TCL app at first but in the end, the device was successfully added. TCL describes this model as a TCL Q-Series Ultra-Quiet Dual Hose Inverter unit. For a portable AC, it is indeed quiet. It replaced an older portable AC and, comparing the two, the TCL is super quiet. The dual hose design that TCL calls Rapidcomfort +, makes cooling much more efficient by dumping hot air while simultaneously blowing fresh air. As an inverter, it varies its speed constantly to maintain a steady temperature and comfort by avoiding hot and cold thermal swings. My experience with this TCL model has been nothing but positive. At 10,000 BTU, it was comfortably cooling the 354 square feet room it was installed in. Even with a 10-foot ceiling, it never struggled to cool the place especially during the middle of the day with 85-degree temperatures outside. The air gets distributed efficiently with the louvers set on auto swing. The wide control panel looks modern and has responsive well placed control buttons. The remote is simple but complete and easy to use, but I enjoyed controlling it through the Google Home app or by voice commands. It has three functions as an air conditioner, heater and dehumidifier but, in my case, I’m only interested in cooling. The auto mode works well as it switches between, cooling, fan mode or heating depending on the set temperature. I experimented with the sleep mode while cooling at night, and I like how quiet it gets while keeping the temperature steady. I give the TCL Q-Series T10PQ5SD a definitive recommendation. It is the best portable AC I’ve experienced for its cooling power at 10,000 BTU, its quiet operation and efficiency. It occupies a small footprint and is easy to set up, and for the tech-savvy user, it’s Matter enabled and connects with all the major systems. Two thumbs up!

Great Cooling Performance. Horrible App Support
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Large capacity A/C & Heat Unit that is in need of a firmware update due to poor app support for remote monitoring and control. PROS 10,000BTU, rated up to 450 square feet effectiveness Energy Efficient Inverter Cooling Cooling, Fan, and Dehumidifying Options CONS Neither Android nor iOS app is functional Does not work properly with Google Home or Matter Hoses are short & non-insulated SET-UP Mechanically, set-up couldn't get much easier. The hoses expand and attach to a pre-made window vent. The window vent is compatible with regular single/double hung vertical windows and single hung horizontal sliding windows. Note that the venting panel does not work with casement windows (think windows that crank out and open at an angle). It isn't a knock against TCL; my other portable air conditioner doesn't work with casement windows either. Total time from unboxing to cooling was about 10 minutes for me. That was delayed as I was taking photos and documenting the assembly process. Simple and easy. TCL did a great job of making set-up easy and simple for anyone regardless of skill level. Like other portable units, the TCL offers Cooling, Fan, and Dehumidifying options. The TCL has the option of using the included clear tubing for draining, a regular garden hose, or if neither option is viable, allows the user the option to manually drain the condensate tank when needed. Great ideas. I really appreciate the water level monitor that will shut the machine off it you are manually emptying the condensate tank. This prevents the possibility of water overflowing and potentially destroying carpet or wood floors. Great addition TCL!! COOLING PERFORMANCE This really isn't a fair fight for the TCL. I am expecting way too much from the little A/C unit. Summer temps here can easily reach 110+ and with some humidity makes summer heat nearly unbearable. For testing, I rolled it out to my "man cave". A 2 1/2 car garage that has a double-size overhead door, a pedestrian door, a roll-up single door for a mower, and 2 single-hung vertical windows. Granted it is spray-foamed, but with a car and tools, the 720+ square foot garage is a lot for a device rated at 450 square feet, not to mention all the leaks associated with garage doors. All of my car repairs and hobbies get worked on out here. When I first rolled in the TCL, it was a sultry 84.6 degrees. Within 2 hours, the little TCL has dropped temps over 3 degrees, and this is with a full-size truck still cooling down from a late afternoon errand. Not bad at all. Quite impressive. After several hours, temps had dropped 7 degrees. While the little TCL was working its hardest, it didn't sound or act like it was overburdened. It kept chugging along. NEGATIVES There's no other way to say it. TCL rushed this product to market too soon. The bugs are NOT worked out yet. I tried both my Google Pixel 10 Pro and my 11th gen iPad to set-up the TCL. Finally, after a legitimate 10 different attempts (8 Android / 2 iOS), I finally got the TCL to connect to Google Home. Unfortunately, even though Google Home reports that the device has been successfully added, it ALWAYS shows offline. I can confirm that it has successfully connected to my Wi-Fi and Google Home knows the A/C unit is there, but it doesn't report back properly. To make matters worse, the TCL Home app is useless for this device. Yes, you can set-up the A/C by starting with the TCL Home app, but when you do, the TCL app takes you immediately back to Google Home for connection and set-up. The window vent is adequate, but not the greatest. There is no insulating value, consisting entirely of thin plastic. Also, I can't get a great fit in my windows. My other portable unit has a better designed vent and fits my windows much better than the TCL. Granted, TCL includes a generous amount of foam insulation to help seal the vent to the windows frame, it still doesn't fit my windows channels very well. The shutters contribute to this problem, making the hoses nearly impossible to go over their frame and into the window channel. Not to mention, like my other portable unit, the exhaust hose is not insulated. I took a reading off the exhaust hose, and it was at 126 degrees. That is just heat radiating into the surrounding environment. FINAL THOUGHTS As far as cooling performance, I am very pleased. It is doing a great job at cooling a space nearly 50% larger than this unit is rated for. The TCL is nicely quiet on night settings and low speeds but is still very noticeable on high working at 100% like it is right now. Where the TCL falls short is its smart home features. TCL touts having compatibility with all the big Assistants, but I can't get it to work. I've tried with numerous devices to try and make it happen. Luckily, the included remote does a good job at controlling the device and it was a good transmit distance, easily reaching across a room. I would like to see a backlight for the remote, though. Would I buy the TCL? Yes, if I needed a hardworking and efficient portable unit and didn't care about the smart home features, it would be a no-brainer. However, if those features were important to my purchase, I would wait until TCL can get the bugs ironed out of the firmware first. While I will give it a recommended rating, I can only give it 3-stars with the above caveat. Should TCL get the bugs worked out of the firmware, this is easily a 5-star product. RECOMMENDED

Nice portable air conditioner but poor software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This portable air conditioner does what it’s supposed to do, cool down a room efficiently and quietly (if you use the night settings). However, like other reviewers have mentioned, the TCL Home app software support is poor. Also set up is easy, but the window slider might not be the perfect fit. Setting up the air conditioner is simple but could be better – you attach the hoses (one for cool air and the other for exhausting the hot air) to the unit and then to the window slider. The window slider then goes in the window’s opening. This window slider should fit most horizontal and vertical windows. However, the biggest issue is that it may be too big for your window. Mine is about 35 inches and I ended up having to cut the window slider with a jig saw. It’s additional work and additional money if you don’t own the proper equipment for cutting it. I don’t know why a shorter window slider isn’t included to accommodate those with smaller windows. Also, the seal isn’t perfect as you’ll have to use the included weather seal strips to make sure there are no gasps between the slider and the window. This can make removing and setting up the air conditioner annoying if you do it often. TCL could have done something more innovative with its portable air conditioner by using those soft expendable brackets much like those large air conditioners. As far as connections go with the TCL Home App, the air conditioner has a really unstable connection over Bluetooth and WiFi. The connection is bad enough that I say it would be better to just use ignore using the app altogether and just use the physical remote. Speaking of the remote, it’s as simple and standard as you get. Backlighting would be nice, but I guess without it the battery life will be longer. Thankfully what this air conditioner excel at is keeping a room cool. I was using the unit in a room around 350 square feet so it was able to cool the room down relatively quickly (TCL says this can cool a room up to 450 square feet). That said, the unit was also running on high. Regardless, the room was still quite cool in night mode when as long as you’re cooling the room ahead of time instead of trying to go from 76 to 70 instantly. As a portable air conditioner, the TLC unit works and does it job well. However, you have to take into consideration the MSRP of $550; it could be better – having better connectivity with the app and a more accommodating window slider. Better to wait for a sale, but either way you’ll have a functional, efficient air conditioner to cool your room.

Large and very "cool" unit
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Living in the southeast Texas area, its always a good idea to have some extra AC options. Currently, my office is setup with lots of computer equipment that easily heats the room up. I also have a cigar humidor that is temperature sensitive. This is a great option for keeping steady and cool temperature in my office. My office is only about 300 sq/ft so its an easy task for this portable AC unit to take care of, the room can be cooled within a few minutes of being on and that is with a medium fan speed. Setting up this unit is the hurdle with these type of AC units. I wish it had better, more flexible hardware for connecting to a window. My window width is about 35”, so I had to cut the plastic to make it fit (which they recommend in their instructions). I would have much preferred a soft expandable bracket that can shrink to be small or large if needed, similar to what you’d find with window units. The instructions for me were a bit vague, and trying to determine which type of insulation to use on what part of the window got confusing, but I made it work. The hose hookups were a bit of a challenge too, but once you get all that done, then you’re basically done and can start enjoying cold air. My attempt at setting up the app and getting the unit connected to wifi was also a bit challenging. I would put the unit in Bluetooth made but neither of my phones (both Android and iPhone) were able to connect to it. I was finally able to get the unit setup by doing a manual QR code scan from the side of the unit. I will say, the app is pretty great WHEN it works. I was able to control the unit from my phone just like a remote, but since then I’ve had trouble connecting to it. The app says the device is offline, but nothing has changed that should have taken it offline. I will say the remote that comes with the unit is pretty responsive and works well. This AC unit has done wonders for my office, its nicely laid out with easy to understand buttons. Its quiet, but not “ultra” quiet. It has also made some small weird noises that I’d expect an older unit to make with the fans, it comes and goes and is not disruptive, but I do notice it at times. If you can get through the setup fine (took me like 45 minutes from unboxing, cutting, and installing), I think it’s a good unit. If you have a bigger window than mine, you probably won’t need to cut. Also, the tubes are a little more rigid than I expected. If they phone app/wifi on unit were more stable, I think that would be a really great option that would put the unit over the top. This is my first portable AC unit, and living in humid areas, I’m curious to see how the water collection is going to be on this, and how often it needs to be replaced, but having ran it for a week, no alerts yet.

||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thought the AC was broken because I couldn't hear it! Usually, other units are so loud on startup. But the TCL is super quiet and has amazing cooling power for my room and even the one across the hall! Don't buy if wifi connectivity is important
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit cools a large room very well. It is easy to operate. But I cannot get it online. As with many devices, first you pair it with bluetooth. It flashes its pairing signal for about two seconds and then stops, which is not sufficient for my phone to find it. They have a support bot that kepts repeating that I don't need wifi, and offered nothing else. I called their support numebr and talked at first to a bot that offered unhelpful suggestions (unplug the router, etc), but transferred me when I asked for a person -- to music on hold, which I have been listening to for 20 minutes. I Googled the problem and searched Reddit, and learned that most people just give up. This was a serious misrepresentation. I would never have bought this unit if I had known their promise of wifi connectivity was false.

good workhorse
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit delivers on cooling, for sure. The rating of 'ultraquiet' is heavily dependent on the meaning of 'ultra'; it is quiet, but can occasionally get into quite a vibration that transmits to our wooden floor. I have also not been successful in connecting this unit to our wifi. But again, the cooling is remarkable.

Dual hose is the way to go
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this unit to cool down my dining room area. It’s a west facing window and in the Texas summer that area of my house gets pretty warm. This unit helps a lot in cooling my dining area. Also my central ac doesn’t have to work nearly as hard to try to cool the house so my electric bills have actually gone down. The only issue I have with the unit is that it takes up floor space as opposed to a traditional window ac unit. I’ve got a weird sized dining room window though so this thing works perfect and doesn’t require me to custom make a panel to fit a traditional window ac.
