needs work; i really wanted to give this a 3.5
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this album definitely changed my perception of lil wayne. dude definitely has alot of talent. let alone, he is creative and has alot of insight. he just needs to work a lil more on his punchlines, and he could use wider range of vocab. some tracks he falls off basis and never fully recovers. creativeness was what i really liked about the album. however, without kanye porducing, this album would've been a total flop. wayne should definitely thank kanye for saving his album. i'll stick to my guns by saying hes not the best rapper alive. he is the hardest working rapper alive though. i recommend this album for the 7 or 8 i really like.

Not Bad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a good CD, in my honest opinion, The Drought is Over 4 would have made a great Carter 3, though. Won't stop me from bein at Best Buy today to buy it. It does have a bunch of good songs. The only thing I don't like is how Lil Wayne is starting to get into the R&B thing, using the Voice Box and stuff like that, but some of it ain't bad. Love that "You aint got Nuthin". Hate "Lollipop", too overplayed. Anyway, if you like Wayne, buy the CD, you won't be dissapointed. If you don't like Wayne, at least give it a try before you start hatin.

Average
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the cd...probably not the super official joint, but nonetheless the 16 tracks that i do have are bittersweet for the most part. If you look at the production on this album, you know that dude had to drop at least 600 Gs on the beats. But honestly...lol...the cd would probably be better if it was an instrumental. There's NO track where i'm like dang i need to go back to that song and listen to his flow. None. There's beats that I went back to listen again cuz they were cold, but as for the flow SUB-PAR at best. I swear he should've snapped on Phone Home, but he didn't. After listening to the cd, I actually am going to go back to the Carter 2, then the The Carter to see the steady decline in his flow, b/c Gillie is not his ghost writer anymore. And it sounds like Kanye and Jay-z album. As far as flow, I give the The Carter a 10, The Carter 2 a 8, the Carter 3 a 3.5 and thats being generous. "If i don't like it / I don't like it / that don't mean that i'm hatin" -Common

NO CLASSIC BUT GOOD ALBUM
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought the album was good although doesn't grab you like classic hip-hop albums. The hype wasn't matched with a great album although this is one of the years best releases. I feel like wayne showed some versatility especially with some of the features. All of wayne's fans will have a problem with this review but they too will say that the mixtape stuff is better than album from top to bottom. He can't be best rapper alive without a classic like Jay-Z's 'Black Album' where you really don't have to skip a track. A classic in my opinion is where its hard to skip a track or you got a track or tracks on repeat. More examples: Nas' Illmatic, Tribe's Low End Theory, Pac's All Eyes On Me, B.I.G's Ready to Die, Outkasts' Aquemini, DRE's Chronic.(that's enough of examples, there is more though) This review is not to tarnish Wayne but to let his fans know what classic is. Many too young to understand what classic sounds like. Too be honest with you the Game's Documentary is more of a classic than any of Wayne's releases. Oh well enough of my opinion. Maybe after I listen some more he can get close to classic, but right now I don't hear it.

Great, But Not Waynes Best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think Weezy's flow and lyrics are not as good as some of his other albums. Compared to Da Drought 3, this album is nothing. I think Wayne cheats himself and his fans on some of his songs. However, not to say songs like Let the Beat Build, Comfortable, Tie My Hands, and 3 Peat are good. Other songs such as Mr. Carter and You Aint Got Nothing on Me, Wayne does not even have the best verses in them.

Great album
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The tracks are everything you would expect outta weezy. Real hot! Lil Wayne has been on top, and shows no signs of slowing down as he realy brings it all on this album. This album is more proof of why he is BET's Most Valuable "Player". The CD features a couple intense beef songs and there are a few catchy club type hits on here too.

The Best Rapper Alive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This whole cd was fire but not like the other Carter cd's. 1 through 16 was hot but my favorite thats get me hyped is phone home but overall the whole cd is hot. The song comfortable is good but I never felt that song like the others off of the drought is over 4. This cd brings hot beats hot lyrics and emotions to the table that we have never seen weezy put out. I do wish that he would put out a cd that was like the drought is over 4 or 2 but this was still a cd that you could bump at home or in the car over and over. This cd is the types of cd's that you would play all day and play out in 2 days but still play it because this is too hot. Over all lil wayne still has the title of the best rapper alive and this cd shows what the best can come up with.

Most Overrated Album Of 2008
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall in comparision to most albums of 2008, it is a good album, but the three years and an abundance of mixtapes since Tha Carter II left fans expecting on a classic album to solidify his self-appointment as the "Best Rapper Alive" only to get a disappointment featuring songs without topics, alot of swag & flow rather than song writing. Overall... Like I said, it's a good album, but continues the Lil Wayne trend of his mixtapes being better than his album. 3/5 Standout Tracks - Mr. Carter, A Milli, Comfortable, Dr. Carter, Tie My Hands, Nothin' On Me, Let The Beat Build (p.s. Even though Lil Wayne doesn't like The Empire, check out The Empire Presents Lil Wayne - The Drought Is Over: The Carter 3 Sessions, alot better compiled project than the Official Carter 3.)

Genius
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With growth and time comes progress. I have to say this is one of his best. With that being said its not his greatest work. The Carter I & II is hard to compare. I do feel that the skills have grown. So just check it out because it will be worth every cent.

Best Rap album of 2008
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think this is a statement of greatness. For this album was heavily bootlegged and leaked, but to still sell over 1 million records in a week. This is a real big exclamation mark. He payed homage by using a cover like that. I like "Let the beat build" produced by Kanye West. It is completely about the beat. His maturity and story-telling capabilities are actually coming along. He has some more projects coming along very soon but this is the album that every who listens to their music loudly with their windows down, I can promise that you will hear this album. believe it.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great album and most all of the people that dislike this in their review like Heavy Metal. It is OK just don't give it a bad rating just because it is not your preferred genre.

Not the best album from the "best rapper alive"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lets get on thing straight....Wayne is not the best rapper alive by a long shot. 2nd this album definately doesnt match up to the first 2 carters and I'm not even a huge fan of him. Dude needs to step it up cause some of the trash he is putting out is going to make his career alot shorter than it is supposed to be ex. Dedication 3 Lollipop and this new Rock and Roll album he talking about. Anyways burn this album before you buy it

Won't regret buying the album.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most anticipated album...period. Good quality music, only rapper out besides Kanye West that is providing REAL hip hop. Best producers...lyrics are intact. Won't regret purchasing this album. "Mr. Carter" will get a lot of radio play, "3 Peat" one of the best songs on the album...I can go on w/ each song. I GUARANTEE THIS ALBUM WILL HIT RECORD SALES!

it was aight
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this album is a sign that sippin on sizzurp is not a good look. it hasn't got anything to do with his lyrical ability on why this album isn't up to par. it has almost everything to do with the fact that my dude is constantly in another world. don't get it twisted, wayne is extremely talented, too bad its going to waste.
