Explosive debut

The best new group debut I've heard in a decade at least. The lyrics are on a par with U2, the rollicking melodies are fresh. The band is tight and plays with passion, too. The wordplay of the lyrics is clever and sharp. "Wishing Well" has a cascade of lines that add to the sense of a coin falling and falling down the dark well, along with the person's hopes and dreams. "Sometime Around Midnight" (it's NOT "Something Around Midnight" as Best Buy now lists the title), is an amazing song. There's no chorus at all, just a building expression of lovelorn pain by the jilted character who meets his ex unexpectedly in a bar late at night. The mood and imagery of the song are outstanding. "Innocence" and "Gasoline" are two other terrific songs. The band is touring now -- catch them if you can, because they are even better live.

This is a great album. The melodies sharp and come together beautifully. The lyrics are poetic and very original. This is by far one of the best debut albums I've heard in a while. Not to metion one of my favorite albums this year. I was not disappointed and I highly recommend this album.

I picked up this CD after hearing "Sometime Around Midnight" on the radio. The CD just gets better from there. I love the blend of poetic, almost spoken lyrics, with the prefectly matched intramentals that just drive the songs forward and make you feel the emtion of the song.
