I teach. I actually read this book with my class a few months before the movie came out. We ended up going to see this together and it did not disappoint. The movie was good, and the DVD package was great, but honestly I can't get over the music of it. John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, etc.) knocked it out of the park with this score. The depth he brought to the project is incredible and I remember sitting in the movie theater thinking how great it was even before I knew who the composer was. The movie was good. John Williams makes it better.

I purchased BFG to watch with my grand children who are visiting for Christmas. We opened the DVD package Christmas night to watch it for the 1st time. The picture quality, movie plot and themes are very good. However, about 3/4's into the movie, the sound stopped working. We could manipulate the DVD by stopping and starting it to get the sound to work again. This happened throughout the remainder of the movie and made watching it and understanding the final scenes of the movie very difficult. It turned out to be a bad experience. I'm hoping the Best Buy store will be willing to help us either replace the DVD with one that isn't defective or refund our money.

My wife is a teacher and every year she has her students read the BFG because it's one of her favorite children's books. When I saw the movie coming out I informed her immediately and we saw it in theaters. I'll admit the movie is a little slow and drawn out compared to the book but it was nice to see a visualization of a great book. I had to pick it up for her when it came out on blu ray so she could show it to her students as they finish going over the book since I loved doing that when I was younger. Overall, she was happy so I'm happy.

For anyone that read the book to their kids, or young adults that read it themselves when growing up....this is a remarkably outstanding film version that is great fun to watch. The only real change was the main character becoming a girl instead of a boy, as in the book, but it plays well and this is a film for both adults and kids alike.
Take an evening or afternoon and watch with your kids or grand kids...or just enjoy it yourself!

I can't understand why this didn't do better at the box office. The BFG is an incredible interpretation of the original Roald Dahl book with probably the best CG I've yet seen in a movie; it out-does Pixar and Disney Animation Studios efforts by some margin, it's that good. Beautifully acted by Academy Award-winner Mark Rylance as The BFG and Flight Of The Conchords' Jemaine Stewart, this is the perfect family entertainment.

This story is about a little girl's friendship with a giant that distributes dreams every night in London. He takes her back to live with him in Giant Land after she sees him one night. The other giants want to eat her, but the BFG is a vegetarian and only wants to protect her from the others. In the course of the story, even QE2 gets involved! There are both funny and tender moments. Even my husband enjoyed this movie!

Well done film with great CGI characters. Kids will enjoy and kids at heart will too. If you are familiar with the book, Disney chose to spoil what was a rather nice ending and make it a more mediocre one with a sort of sad bit to it. Biggest disappointment is that Disney continues to prevent the USA audience from buying the 3D versions of it's films. This was also released in it's 3D format ... everywhere but the USA.

It is sad that this movie didn't seem to reach a larger audience. Directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the book by Roald Dahl, who also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate factory and James and the Giant Peach. This movie is pure magic from start to finish. Any movie about a BIg Friendly Giant is going to sink or swim based on the visuals and the CGI work in this film is among the best.
