John Williams is the man
||Posted .I teach. I actually read this book with my class a few months before the movie came out. We ended up going to see this together and it did not disappoint. The movie was good, and the DVD package was great, but honestly I can't get over the music of it. John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, etc.) knocked it out of the park with this score. The depth he brought to the project is incredible and I remember sitting in the movie theater thinking how great it was even before I knew who the composer was. The movie was good. John Williams makes it better.

DVD was defective when played for the 1st time.
||Posted .I purchased BFG to watch with my grand children who are visiting for Christmas. We opened the DVD package Christmas night to watch it for the 1st time. The picture quality, movie plot and themes are very good. However, about 3/4's into the movie, the sound stopped working. We could manipulate the DVD by stopping and starting it to get the sound to work again. This happened throughout the remainder of the movie and made watching it and understanding the final scenes of the movie very difficult. It turned out to be a bad experience. I'm hoping the Best Buy store will be willing to help us either replace the DVD with one that isn't defective or refund our money.

Great movie. Bad Best Buy experience.
||Posted .Movie is great. Vibrant. Entertaining. My preorder experience with BB this time was not so great. Preordered this and Pete's Dragon long before release at $27.99 each. Typically I don't mind paying a bit more when I receive the movies early. Because of the holiday, I ended up receiving the movies a day after release and at $5/movie more than the release day price. Of course, Best Buy has removed all ways of online communication so my only way to speak to a service rep is to sit on hold for an hour. No thanks. I'll just stop preordering from BB and go to whichever retailer is closest to me with the lowest price on release day. I pass both Walmart and Target on the way to BB so chances are they'll get my business in the future.

Gift for my Wife
||Posted .My wife is a teacher and every year she has her students read the BFG because it's one of her favorite children's books. When I saw the movie coming out I informed her immediately and we saw it in theaters. I'll admit the movie is a little slow and drawn out compared to the book but it was nice to see a visualization of a great book. I had to pick it up for her when it came out on blu ray so she could show it to her students as they finish going over the book since I loved doing that when I was younger. Overall, she was happy so I'm happy.

Great film for kids and adults
||Posted .For anyone that read the book to their kids, or young adults that read it themselves when growing up....this is a remarkably outstanding film version that is great fun to watch. The only real change was the main character becoming a girl instead of a boy, as in the book, but it plays well and this is a film for both adults and kids alike. Take an evening or afternoon and watch with your kids or grand kids...or just enjoy it yourself!

Heartwarming tale, beautifully executed
||Posted .I can't understand why this didn't do better at the box office. The BFG is an incredible interpretation of the original Roald Dahl book with probably the best CG I've yet seen in a movie; it out-does Pixar and Disney Animation Studios efforts by some margin, it's that good. Beautifully acted by Academy Award-winner Mark Rylance as The BFG and Flight Of The Conchords' Jemaine Stewart, this is the perfect family entertainment.
