a fine send off for a masterful band

The Endless River may not be Pink Floyd's best album, but at least it's something substantial. It's supposedly a collection of outtakes from the Division Bell sessions, but musically Gilmour and Mason really put a lot of work into the jams (Richard Wright died a few years back so any of his work is from 94). My biggest criticism is that there really isn't much singing on the songs with the exception of one (or maybe two) tracks. But if you're a fan, you have to pick it up, and their experimentations are still out of sight.

    Musically fantastic, lacking lyrically

I love Floyd, so this album would automatically get 3 stars. The fact that Gilmour is playing beautifully tranquil melodies that show his veteran status earns another star. However, part of the trance of Pink Floyd comes from those lyrics. That voice that can lull you in to a world away from reality. I know the music is more important to the artist, but I really wanted the last Floyd effort to go out with a BANG! Realistically, I wish Roger and David could just patch things up for a few months of studio work and go out that way, but I suppose this will have to do.

It's Pink Floyd, and it's perfect. An extension of "Division Bell," but more instrumental. It's pretty much become my background music everyday while reading, cooking, or whatever. This box also includes a booklet, DVD, and photos. For fans of Pink Floyd, this is a necessary purchase.

Mostly ambient and instrumental album, except the last song has lyrics pertaining to the band's history. Almost like a continuation of the Division Bell album, although there are also hints of sounds from every era of Floyd's career throughout this album. Great music to chill out to.

The Endless River is an awesome compilation of every Pink Floyd album. You hear the subtle riffs and sounds of all their previous albums. An instant favorite and must have Floyd freaks. I love it!

For devotees of Pink Floyd this is a deeply ambient and musically rich piece of work. This is clearly a work of art, not just a commercial collection of sound. Masterful...

I never imagined that there would ever be a new album by Pink Floyd. Sonically great. I believe it was started way back with the Division Bell album.

I have to admit, when I first heard about Pink Floyd having a new album in the works, I had high hopes. But, even though I've been a fan of the band since childhood's end, I had some trepidation about this new release. Primariiy because I feared that it would be nothing more than the Pink Floyd factory grinding out a bunch of unfinished songs that weren't worthy of The Division Bell. As it turns out, my fears were unfounded and I could breathe easy. The Endless River truly belongs in the Pink Floyd Canon and also stands as an excellent coda for the band. It easily invokes the flavors of many of their previous albums. So many of the songs hint at the earlier albums in their catalog that I found myself looking forward to each track, trying to determine which album the song might be a nod too. The album stands well, despite it only having one track with actual lyrics, unlike, say, The Wall. But in all honesty, in the early part of the band's career they frequently wrote songs that were lyric-free. Though any person looking to discover the band should enjoy this album, I suspect the long-time fans will get the most out of it as they nod and smile at the various tracks that deliver echos from the band's past.

Okay, so I was super excited to get this CD. I mean, it's been 20 years since anything new was released. Unfortunately, even though I'm a big fan, especially of David Gilmour, I found this album to be disappointing. They could have done so much more with it. While it may have been a tribute somewhat to Richard, more vocal tracks would have made this album so much better. Yeah, I read David and Nick's reasons for not doing more vocals, but that was a bad call in my opinion. Most of the album sounds the same and drones on. Sorry guys, I had really hoped for something more substantive and listenable. But, you did get me to buy the Deluxe version with all the dvd stuff, which by the way is the best part of the whole compilation.
