Because of the hype associated with this game (if you are a RE fan like I am then you know who the created The Evil Within) it is difficult to assess its qualities on its own merit. Upon watching the opening cut scenes and attempting to follow the story, I realized that it may be impossible for any game creator to reproduce the success associated with the original Resident Evil games, and so i decided to put my initial disappointment aside and try to enjoy the game for what it is: one of the first survival horror pieces released for this new generation of consoles. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning here for you all that the story is a bit convoluted and the graphics are not up to par when compared to some modern games like Destiny or Shadows of Mordor, but the game does look pretty good once you leave the starting area, and adjust the grain setting to your liking. Once you actually leave the "tutorial" type stage, the game becomes very immersive and I have to admit that at one point, I got totally scared out of my mind and screamed. So, while the atmosphere is not quite as creepy as Resident Evil 1, it is very scary in its own right; I did have to put the controller down and stop playing for a bit as my chest hurt in response to this frightening episode. In short, I would recommend this game, especially to someone who is a horror fan. Get through the opening cheese and you will have a blast trying to survive. One thing to keep in mind is that the game is quite difficult. As a veteran player I had to change to the easiest setting in order not to avoid the huge time sync of restarting after death again and again.

story is good but, the controls are pretty buggy making it hard to pick up objects, operate items & hit targets. this game is also way too hard considering its controls problems. even on easy its very hard to beat the bosses even on the early chapters, so much of a pain it actually makes the game feel like a chore to play rather than being fun.

I really enjoyed this game it took me 20 hour to complete. The story was a bit confusing at the beginning but came together at the end.

Played this game in pure dark and was scared for three days! Fun game if you like dead space and resident evil!

It's like playing RE 4.5, this is everything you expected from resident evil series after RE4 in terms of Gameplay and graphics, It reminded me a bit about RE4 but the theme and details feel different and better/scarier, you will love the theme (blood, gore, creatures), it is different from outlast, well maybe a little similar but good on it's own way, i got the special 3D Package and i love it, good pre-order to me including the $10 Gift card. You have to check it out and tell me what you think.

This game scared the living daylight out of me! If you love scary games you would like this.

This game will remind you of the first Resident Evil. It will have you jumping in your seat.

While the action and claustrophobic camera angles a la Resident Evil 4 make for some tense moments, gameplay and frame rate issues prevent 'Evil Within' from ascending to the masterpiece that RE4 was. The game chugs along on console for some reason-- frame rate isn't as sharp as it should be and gameplay just isn't smooth. Aiming feels more difficult than it should be-- which certainly supports the fantastic level of tension this game emanates, just not in a completely good way. However, the game certainly has some scares and a charm about it that the earlier Resident Evils (and 4) had. I definitely recommend playing this if you're a fan of the survival horror genre. There is definitely fun to be had... but if a gaming PC is available to you, play it on there for a better experience.

Much like Resident Evil this survival horror title is great.

After beating this game twice now, I'd say you will love this game if you liked RE 4, RE 1, or Silent Hill. Its almost like if you put these three games in a blender, this is what would come out. You'll even notice the enemy movements are similar to the enemies in RE4, you can see where the influence comes from.

If you're a fan of the old school Resident Evil games, or of Resident Evil 4, you'll likely enjoy this game. However, I found the difficulty went from easy to much more difficult later in the game, where I ended up in the middle of long level stuck without any supplies. It's a game where resource management, stealth, and running away are likely the best strategies. A good horror game, but be prepared to struggle

So to pretty much some up this game I say buy it when its on sale. Its just like a resident evil 4 clone with some stealth aspects. While going through the levels you will need a lot of trial and error to get through it. The storyline is spattered here and there, and is not really comprehensive. Controls for combat are very sluggish and melee animations usually miss there mark. The camera angles will probably kill you more than just a simple player error. For this reason it can be very frustrating at times. The atmosphere in the game is very creepy at times (which is why I bought this game to begin with). The horror aspect can loose its charm when you are constantly playing the same level from dying continuously. So in conclusion, the game is buyable but don't expect a great game as most of us survival horror fans expected this to be since RE4 creator was mounting this as his comeback into the genre. Its worth at least one playthrough even though there is a new game + mode like many re games. I am glad i have the gamers club unlocked and didn't pay full price.

has great visuals and a storyline that keeps your mind wondering what's gonna happen next.

the screen gets cut off at the top and bottom which even with a 55 inch screen seriously diminishes the viewing of the game. The game is kind of boring too. I was expecting Resident Evil 1 greatness but never lived up to that in any way.

Reason why i love this game is the gore and how intense it gets.
