The Father is simply one of the best films released in the last several years with Sir Anthony Hopkins giving one of his best performances in his long career as a man who suffers from dementia and really can't remember a lot of important events in his life. What makes this film so intriguing is that it places the viewing audience in the mind of the Anthony Hopkins character Anthony, so it is like experiencing dementia through his mind. The blu-ray picture is absolutely stunning. A highly recommended film.

The Father - An Actor's Dream

First there is the play and then comes the film. THE FATHER is a story about the declining years of the family patriarch and what it does to the rest of his family, namely his daughter. A part like this would be any actor's dream, and it certainly was for 80 something, semi-retired, Anthony Hopkins, who picked up his second Academy Award for Best Actor after a 30-year gap. If you want to see some really good performances and a tight story, check out this film.

Having had a member of my family suffer from dementia, and knowing a fair number of other people who likewise have had their mental capacities diminish, this film touched me deeply. It is confusing -- and is meant to be. Stick with it. You experience "reality" as does the central character, Anthony (played magnificently by Anthony Hopkins). The love of Anne (played by Olivia Coleman) for her father and the way she suffers along with him truly hits home.

    Anthony Hopkins' Best Performance.

I went into this wondering just how Anthony Hopkins beat out Chadwick Boseman for Best Actor at the Academy Awards and then I saw it and understood. Ultimately, I feel that they made the right call. Hopkins gave a soul shattering performance and demonstrated that even in his eighties, he's still one of the best in the business. His final scene in the movie will floor you.

If you’re a fan of Anthony Hopkins as an actor… don’t miss this film. He plays a senior citizen afflicted with a bad case of forgetfulness and dementia and the family struggles that go with it. It’s a good family drama and kid relevant to what many families deal with today. No violence, gunfire, car chases or explosions. Just a good film that will tug at your heartstrings

its hard to go through this movie and talk about it sine this is a case more and more common as the years pass. pretty much the dad is starting to forget things and people around him, as the movie progresses it gets worse and worse. thats pretty much it we see it from his point of view as his mind just starts fading away. pretty sad but great movie

This Movie is a Sad And Depressing look into the Mind of a Person losing touch with reality from a mind illness that effects many Elderly People. When putting yourself into the mindframe of Anthony Hopkins Character it is well extremely scary to think of that as a possibility. Also being a Caretaker . Shewww. It musf be extremely hard on Adult Children to watch such a devastating horror.

I knew Anthony Hopkins was a master class actor, obviously. But, his work in "The Father," was so engrossing, heartbreaking, and just tragically real. This is a tough one to sit through, but it really was worth it. He deserved that Academy Award he earned for this, in case you were wondering.

This movie is incredible. I will admit I was confused through most of it, but near the end .... ❤️ Both Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman did SUPERB!!! It’s no surprise that Anthony won the Oscar for this movie. It was heart wrenching but definitely a must see!

It was a good movie; but you need to follow it very closely, if not it will lose you along the way. The acting was solid and the plot was okay. It's one of those movies you will need to watch twice to see it true value.
