I saw the trailer for this movie about 3 or so months ago, and I instantly fell in love with the movie. So much so, that the moment it came out on Blu Ray I went out and bought it, without reading reviews or seeing it prior. I just knew that it was going to be an awesome movie, and I was right. It has a stellar cast, with an amazing storyline and a very unique plot. I'm normally not a fan of comedy horror movies, but this was very well written and the actors did a fantastic job.
Yes, this movie is worth buying and watching!

ONE OF THE YEARS BEST

The combination of horror and comedy is always a volatile recipe, and the failure to mix those ingredients just right can often result in disaster. But every once in awhile, a film comes along that manages to stumble upon the secret formula for success, with Cabin in the Woods being the most recent example. Now, three years after that film blew the roof off the Paramount Theater at the SXSW Film Festival, we have another SXSW debut that premiered to a cacophonous ovation: director Todd Strauss-Schulson's The Final Girls.
Max Cartwright (Taissa Farmiga) is struggling with loss after the tragic death of her mother, 80s slasher flick icon Amanda Cartwright (Malin Akerman). When she attends an anniversary screening of her mom's landmark film, Camp Bloodbath, a freak accident transports Max and her friends (Alia Shawkat, Alexander Ludwig, Thomas Middleditch and Nina Dobrev) into the film itself, where they're forced to abide by the rules of the movie's narrative in an attempt to survive.

A TRUE Homage To 80's Slashers

I really loved this movie. A true homage to 80's slashers among so many movies that "claim" to be "throwbacks" - this one finally gets it right. Elements of comedy are in the right places, good acting, good character development, good killer.....all good horrorific fun! Highly recommend seeing this movie!! (...and I'm not normally a fan of a lot of the newer films...especially ones that claim old school 80's style and then aren't...so I'm picky and I really loved this film!)

One of 2015's Best Horror Comedy Offerings....

I wasn't expecting much from this one....I've been fooled before with a great trailer (see the Gallows) and treated to a subpar movie. But this one, along with Cooties, is among the better Horror/Comedies 2015 had to offer. It has a ton of in-jokes, poking fun at 80's style slasher movies, while having an unexpected heart to the story. If you're a fan of John Dies at the End or Tucker and Dale and haven't already, give this one a shot...you won't be disappointed.

"The Final Girls," while not the greatest horror-comedy film, is still highly entertaining for those familiar with all the genre tropes, especially the 80s slasher films. Very interesting tweak on the premise of watching a bad horror film--as the main characters are sucked into the bad movie itself. I was looking forward to seeing this since reading about it at Sundance 2015, and it did not disappoint.

Really, any horror fan should see this film. It not only skewers the slasher genre, but pays homage to it. The only downside is the PG-13 rating (what's the point? It's going straight to video anyway) that could have been done away with to allow some funnier death scenes. But despite that, it turned out to be a fun movie, and I'm not sure I can think of much I would change.

I find that Hollywood makes it's money off of boring sequals and terrible remakes. It's rare that you find something that is both new and enjoyable but this movie had it all. I find that a lot of the comedies nowdays are just trying to one up each other. They need to add more vulgarity and unnecessary F Bombs. This movie is the perfect example of what we need. It was funny and not too over the edge.

Humorous Horror That Gets It Right

This new horror-comedy does lean more to the comedic side, but don't let that discourage you. This meta-movie, intentionally set in a 1980s b-movie camp slasher is perfect. The cast is amazing, with the standouts being Malin Ackerman and Taissa Farmiga as a mother/ daughter team (of sorts). The way this movie plays to being a movie is brilliant. One of 2015s best!

This movie is clever, fun and beautifully done! I knew it would be something unique from the trailer, but in my wildest dreams did not expect such a great "puzzlebox" movie. The cast is on point, the story surprisingly deeper than it's surface, the results of the "predicament" well played! I've watched it many times and everyone I've shared with has enjoyed it.

There are a lot of movies lately being promoted as throwbacks to classic 80's or 90's horror. Most seem to either mock the period or at least fail to emulate it in a manner that doesn't denote a lack of respect or genuine appreciation for that golden age of horror. The Final Girls may still be a little contemptible to those of us who lived through the period and understand it well, but it wasn't outright offensive like some others and plays well to it's budget. I think of it more as a well done spoof, akin the Scream series, without all the over-the-top goofiness of more obvious parodies. That's my impression after only one viewing. I've yet to find whether subsequent viewings will result in greater or lesser appreciation. But I do look forward to seeing it again, which is more than I can say for most comedy horrors these days.

I saw this recommended based on a previous purchase. I hadn’t heard of it, but for $10, I gave it a shot based on the trailer and didn’t regret it. A fun horror movie comedy full of 4th wall breaks. If you were a fan of 80s slasher movies and enjoy laughing, check this one out.

This is a film meshed within a bunch of different genres. You have comedy, horror, and in some spots. very acted heart felt moments that make you care about these characters.
It's a film that doesn't rely on blood and guts. Even though it is a homage to slasher films, Mainly Friday The 13th. But in the lack of blood and gore. It makes up with Cleverness.

I enjoyed this movie. I really liked the idea of the movie, and I thought they handled it well. Nice blend of comedy with horror elements that one would never really get too horrified about. If you're looking for horror, try something else. If you're looking for a fun take on the genre, this is the one you want!.

"The Final Girls," is a wonderful homage to the 80s slasher films. At the core of the movie though is a story about a young girl getting over the death of her mother. The film is beautifully shot with breathtaking cinematography, performances are all spot on. You will never listen to "Bette Davis Eyes" the same again.

This movie has thrils, comedy and good effects. There is some good action and quiet moments too. Taissa Farmiga is good in this movie-good looks and good acting. The concept for this movie is unique. The outdoors Taissa Farmiga fight scene is cool. I think it is one of the best movies of the year.

If your a fan of horror movies, especially Friday 13th, then you'll like this movie. We have all wondered what it would be like in a horror movie and what we would do to survive. Well Final Girls delivers. It takes classic 80's horror movies and mixes in comedy. Funny!!

I saw this in a theater so will let others review the disc quality, but the story is very clever and suprisingly touching at times. This is a good movie for people who don't normally like to watch horror movies, since it also references 80's comedies and pop culture.
