I was a little sceptical at first, but as I watched this movie, I really got into the characters and the action. In my opinion, I believe that the actors were great in this movie. I love to research "based upon true story", and it appears that this was pretty much just as it happened.

While in basic training we learned all about this rescue and what the Coast Guard stood for. The saying " we had to go out but did not necessarily have to come back" was the code we lived by in the day. The Coast Guard has had over a million life saving rescues and no matter the weather they still go out.

I really enjoyed this movie. The story is about one of two T2 oil tankers that split in half during a storm off Cape Cod. The story is also about true bravery against extreme odds. Reading about the event after watching the movie, you learn that most everything that happens in the movie really happened. (The timeline of the love story is a little off)

Enjoyed the drama, action and details in this period piece from the mid 20th century. Acting is good, different kind of role for Christopher Pine which was fun to watch (I've never been a huge fan outside of Star Trek). Great visuals and sound. Watched with my 16 year old son, who also enjoyed it!

I saw this in the theatre, now bought it for my husband to enjoy. The production team did an amazing job at recreating the Coast Guard's rescue. I don't know how well it will translate to the smaller screen but all the action will keep me on the edge of my seat once more.

This movie is based on a true story about a Coast Guard rescue off the coast of Massachusetts in the 1950s. The acting and production are top-notch and based on a well-researched book about the actual events. The characters are realistically portrayed, and they do a fine job of advancing the story to its exciting climax.

What a great movie and about a great heroic and selfless act in our history. I read the book as well and while the movie did differ it was only bits and pieces to draw the audience in for a romantic love story. A must see and the book is a must read if you can find one.

I had to get into the acting in this movie. Good star actors.

One man's determination led caring associates to an exciting adventure. The things people will do to save human lives has no bounds. An open Sea rescue attempt can lead to either death or life...Now it is your turn to see the result of such a heroic endeavor.

this is a good movie to sit and watch understand the events as it had happened. Chris Pine is really good and is a natural actor and does not overplay the part. I recommend for a nice evening at home...oh and get the popcorn ready...

This is a great movie for all especially for those of us that like to watch Coast guard movies and it is an excellent choice to watch with your wife or girlfriend, I've watched it more than three times, definitely recommend The Finest hours movie.

If you enjoyed the disaster flicks of the 1970s - Airport, The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno and the like - then you will probably enjoy The Finest Hours, the true story of one of the most dramatic sea rescues ever attempted. Audio and picture quality of the blu-ray is excellent.

The movie was an exceptional and totally engrossing movie. It held my interest from beginning to end. The actors did a wonderful job in portraying their parts and the water scenes were so very realistic. Well worth the time to see this movie.

This is the first time I had heard of this true story and thoroughly enjoyed it. It also showed you the importance of our USCG and how it serves the country. Very uplifting to think there is a service that takes care of our coastal waters.

The movie overall was pretty good. Acting was good and the visuals were good. Wish Disney would release their 3D movies on 3D blu ray. Saw this in the theater in 3D and liked it. When I got it on blu ray was disappointed it was not available in 3D blu ray. Movie is still good though.

This is a good movie to have in the ever growing movie collection ... An enjoyable movie to own to see when you need a good movie fix!! Here's to continuing growing movie collections and finding larger movie shelves! Keep on watching!

This movie was a lot better than its fate. Acting was decent, action and effects were good, and it kept your interest, as well as your feeling for the characters. After seeing at home, I wished I had seen it on theater's big screen. Touching movie, that I thought was well done.

This may not be fair, I am a suckered for fact based movies. We really enjoyed the movie. It brought back memories from my time as a sailor. It also brought back the knowledge that the sea is a fickle mistress. It was well acted and the hero and heroine was also believable.
