My husband and I watched 'The Finest Hour' based on a true story that took place towards the end of 1951 and early 1952 that leads up to an incredible search for survivors in a downed oil tanker. The amazing special effects that show how dangerous and courageous the Coast Guard Bernie Webber (played by Chris Pine) and his crew took to try and reach the men on board a sinking oil tanker is really amazing. I thought Casey Affleck did a great job of playing the chief engineer, Ray Sybert. He kept his crew together and managed to help keep half of a tanker afloat and until help arrived. He did not know if help was coming and yet he would not give up. Beautifully done! This picture is a nail biter throughout the rescue and how all the odds were against the Coast Guards and the crew on the tanker and how they all would not give up. This is one of the best movies we have seen!

The movie has a great message about never giving up and listening to that still small voice that will guide you to where you need to be. This movie is great for the entire family although little children may not understand what is going on. It's great for pre-teens to show them that giving up is not always the answer and that they should always do what is right.

Loved this movie, the whole family will love this pulse pounding roller coaster ride! Takes place in the early 1950's where a giant storm dominates the seas by breaking a tanker truck in half, with only a few hours left to survive, the crew id does what they can survive. A rescue ship is sent to try and get to them, but the question is will they ? I love the early 50's look, it captures it so perfectly. Everybody gives a good performance, almost nobody stands out. The storms scenes are also well shot, you'll feel caught up in the storm also. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's easy to compare this to The Perfect storm(2000), it has the same feel to it. I hope you won't be disappointed by this.

This movie brings to life the most daring rescue in the history of the U.S. Coast Guard, in which a crew of four risked their lives to save 33 men stranded at sea in the middle of a devastating nor'easter. On Feb. 18, 1952, the Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, got word that the SS Pendleton, a World War II-era oil tanker, had been split in half at sea. Incredibly, it was the second tanker ripped apart that day, and the most experienced seamen at the station had already been dispatched to help with the first distress call.

Based on an actual, amazing Coast Guard rescue, this movie combines good acting, realistic special effects, and enjoyable story-telling. Unlike too many other recent movies, this movie does not let the special effects overwhelm the good acting or spoil the good story-telling. A great movie worth watching for enjoyment, with some important lessons about courage, teamwork, humility, and perseverance in the face of tremendous adversity. If you like this movie, take a look at Apollo 13 (1995) and Zulu (1964),

Great movie based on a true story about the US Coast Guard rescue team of 4 men who went out in a small boat in a terrible storm to rescue 30 plus crew trapped on a tanker that had been ripped in half by the massive storm. A successful mission seemed unlikely but miraculously they pulled it off. It is an action movie about man vs. nature.

I really enjoyed this movie. The story is about one of two T2 oil tankers that split in half during a storm off Cape Cod. The story is also about true bravery against extreme odds. Reading about the event after watching the movie, you learn that most everything that happens in the movie really happened. (The timeline of the love story is a little off)
