Purchased this game hoping it would be as good as the older golf games, but it is a massive let down in all ways.

once you get to most greens, it is not comparable to accurate play on real greens. the pin placement on top of that is next to impossible on most courses. you putt on one side, then you are putting from the other side from twice as far on average. a tap putt can go 45 feet. it is so far from realistic

Graphics from Xbox 360/PS3 era, bad controls

First off, the graphics. This is supposed to be the most realistic golf game out there but the visuals are just not good. The graphics are good when the sun is shining and creating dynamic lighting effects, but when it is overcast in the game, the visuals seem to step back to something you would have seen on an Xbox 360/PS3 5-10 years ago. The crowd models look like they may have been taken from a PS2 game. Aside from just the graphics themselves, there are tons of visual glitches. Textures occasionally don't load onto surfaces. I had a green that looked like one giant patch of rough and made any sort of putting unattainable because you could not read it or the grid. You will also see lots of popup trees as the camera is following a shot, your ball will not make a trail as it rolls through a bunker. From a comparison of YouTube videos, it appears that the PS4 version is really bad off graphically in comparison to the PC version and possibly the Xbox One. Its almost like PS4 was an afterthought version compared to the other two. Just a lot of issues.
The gameplay itself seems pretty accurate. It is incredibly difficult to get your swing right. I could only just barely manage with the standard clubs. Player and Tour were hooks and slices non-stop for me. The putts with something else though. You cannot step down max power while putting on the green. It will always hit 100+ feet with a full swing. So its up to you to play a bunch to learn your golfer's animation enough to be able to step down a 15 feet putt out of the 100+ feet it gives for the putter. I don't mind the challenge though. It's up to me to get better. Not the game to water itself down in that department, just could be a little more forgiving. I will say this, however. There seems to be an issue with how accurately calibrated your controller's analog sticks are and how well you will do with this swing mechanic. I had the worst time with the PS4 controller I normally play with, but when I switched to a newer one I have never really used much, I was nailing the swings dead on. So just be aware, the same may happen to you and with new controllers being $50 a piece, you may be at a disadvantage in the game if your controller has some mileage on it and isn't as "true" as this game demands for swings.
There are an outrageous amount of bugs and the servers for the game are crashing nonstop. Which means you will not be able to do much in the game besides practicing driving, putting, etc. For some reason, you cannot play career mode unless the servers are up and running. Given the server issues, the issues with the analog sticks and the sub-par graphics for a game in 2017, I personally would not recommend this game to anyone unless you are absolutely desperate for a golf game. I returned the game after two days of it being unplayable due to server issues and all of the glitches. I will wait for Everybody's Golf on the PS4. Surely it has to be better.
