The Little Mermaid brought the Disney Renaissance into fruition, but The Great Mouse Detective planted the seeds.

I liked watching this movie when I was a kid. It was the first iteration of Sherlock Holmes I ever watched, and I was happy to watch it again. The visuals were fine, and the animation still holds up. I’d recommend anyone to watch this alternate version of Sherlock Holmes.

Classic movie Great bundle to have both Blu-ray and DVD

If this wasn't Disney, probably lose a star. But it's not exactly bad. It kept the kids entertained. That's all that matters right?

I saw Great Mouse Detective in theaters as a kid and have always had fond memories of it, especially the exciting climax in the inner-workings of Big Ben. The story is an adaptation of the classic Sherlock Holmes mysteries made more easily accessible for children with Basil the mouse detective living in the walls of the real Holmes' estate and filling his role in the story. Because GMD was made during a period of decline for Disney animation, it compares poorly to previous and more recent Disney features. One bright spot, the climax, which caught my eye as a child, also impressed me as an adult. It clearly stands out for reasons I could not identify as a child. Now thanks to a more discerning eye it is easy to identify this scene as the only one in GMD that incorporates computer animated backgrounds. The one useful special feature is the Backstage Disney featurette, which identifies this scene as the first such use of computer animation in Disney feature animation. Another bright spot is Vincent Price's involvement as the voice of Ratigan. (* Editorial review cites this as his first cartoon voice. However, Price also voices the evil Irontail in the 1971 easter tv special "Here Comes Peter Cottontail)

I loved this movie which I had no idea it existed. I found it at some Best Buy store and I double check about the film in imdb and it turns out that this is one of Disney's most underrated movies. i loved it, and I'm glad I bought it on Blu ray disc were it looks and sounds terrific. This film was Sherlock Holmes meets Disney. You can't ask for more.

Omg I love this movie. Best Disney film ever. Disney has done it again, the animation of the film was amazing.

Cartoons are usually fun for kids but in this day and age there's so much action oriented violence that to see her totally enjoy and laugh at a cartoon is awesome. I highly recommend this for boys or girls up to age 10 or 11.

This movie is greatly under appreciated, It came out during Disney's down years in the 1980s. If given a chance this movie is well written and acted. Disney delivers a lovable hero, sidekick, etc and a memorable villain.

This is one of my all time favorite Disney Movies. I am a huge fan of Vincent Price and of Sherlock Holmes, and this film has both in a child friendly setting. Oh Ratigan!
