The movie is somewhat of a typical monster movie, but the cinematography is vibrant and the action well done. The creatures look real and the story line is new. The 4K version is awesome. Just keep in mind this is an action movie and not an academy award winner with a deep story to it that will make you think for days after watching.

I initially got this movie from the public library. I liked it so much I bought a copy. Love the Blu-Ray format as it is detailed and sounds great. The movie involves demons invading China. The citizens built the Great Wall to keep them out. The movie involves an invasion and the war to defeat these demons. Great stuff!

To be honest, this film is predictable. It relies on Matt Damon being the hero and saving the Chinese population from these creatures. There is an interesting plot twist but that is not what this movie is about. It is about the war with the creatures and the Chinese warriors, men and women, and their battalions. Each specific duty is designated by their colorful uniforms. These colors really "pop" on to the screen in 4K. It is eye catching and interesting to watch when the Chinese fight in their brilliant colors against the creatures. This I think is the redemption of the film. Otherwise the movie is average at best.

Great movie. Hollywood at its finest! Character development was evenly paced, the director used the right formula for suspense. Special effects were good and actors did justice to their roles. Overall, enjoyable to watch.

The Great Wall wasn’t the most exciting movie nor did it have the best story. What it lacked in those departments it clearly made up for it in cinematography! The scenes full of vibrant colors in 4K was amazing!

from the being of film it started off with action and also finsh the same way. the 4k release color is in my veiw much better than the bluray. this move has alot of bright color in it and the hdr bring it out very well. if you whjat a bmovie with bright full colors this is worth getting.

I had been waiting for The Great Wall to come to DVD as I had viewed the previews and was looking forward to viewing this movie with m family. Ordered from Best Buy and the movie arrived n time for a movie night! The movie is fantastic, I really enjoyed the storyline along with the graphics.

This was a surprise for me. I watched it on Netflix and I thought it was good enough to add to my collection. The colors of this movie are great, in line with other movies like Hero.

Maybe not a blockbuster, but I liked this one. The concept and monsters were pretty cool, the costumes were awesome, especially the armor. One of my favorite Matt Damon movies.

This movie was a sleeper. If your a fan of mythical legends, vast armies and ancient folklore, this is the movie for you. Beautifully shot with plenty of color splashed across the screen. A good redemption story, worth the cheap price.

First of all this is a movie about fighting monsters - not a fact based historical epic. Don't take it that seriously and you'll have a good time. The Great Wall tells the story of a group of Western mercenaries, searching for a powerful substance known as black powder, in China. Soon, they get involved in protecting the Great Wall of China against an army of monsters, known as the Taotie. Overall, there is a good balance between East and West. A Western screenplay by Max Brooks keeps things going quickly without the irritating self sacrifice and slow dialog of the recent Dragon Blade movie (Jackie Chan, Adrien Brody). Director Zhang Yimou is known for extravaganzas and sometimes the action does look acrobatic but it's not too bad. The excessive slow motion deaths and explosions that plague some Chinese movies isn't such a problem here. This was an all-out action movie that explored the themes of greed and sacrifice, nobility and savagery. Yimou's masterful direction elevates the movie above standard action fare, giving moments of truly astounding visuals. His use of color not only adds to the visual flair, but also helps to add coherence to the movie while the editing is never confusing. With a running time of less than 2 hours, viewers expecting in-depth characterization along the lines of "Hero" and "Curse of the Golden Flower" will be disappointed. The quiet scenes were a bit lacking, leaving the audience emotionally cold. Nevertheless, it’s not a bad movie and certainly not ambitious enough to deserve any of the vitriol people read into the story without ever watching the movie. I was entertained but not awestruck.

I have to admit, I didn't have very high hopes when we bought this movie. I was so wrong! This was an awesome movie! They combined Asian visuals, a fantasy story line, and jam packed action scenes for a surprisingly great movie.

This is a dynamic, fabulous film that is so creative, well done in all categories. The action never ends and is spell binding. The sets are amazing. All the art direction & CGI are so well done. Matt Damon is excellent in this film.

This movie does have a great wall, not like the one they are building on our southern border. That one won't be able to stop the hoard.

I really like the visual display of the movie and the area it is filmed at. The Asian and American combo is great and I like the way they brought the colors of Asian army back to a feature film. Must watch and own. Enjoy.

If you're a fan of action Chinese movies that includes some sci-fi elements then this will not disappoint. I found this entertaining.

I love the movie and even though I don't have 4K Ultra, the price was decent to get it as long as it has bluray for me. It cost me like $10+ during Black Friday. It was cheaper than the bluray/dvd combo pack for sure.

Matt Damon is one of my favorite actors so I just had to watch it, plus it looked decent. Definitely worth the rent but not to own.
