This, along with the LOTR movies, are my favorite movies. Super happy to get them in 4K as well as a SteelBook set. I'm a huge SteelBook collector and was lucky enough to order this highly sought after item and doubly lucky to receive an undamaged set for the most part. The case has a small pinpoint dent on the side, but nothing noticeable, Most importantly, there were no dents or spine slashes on the SteelBooks themselves. My only suggestion to Best Buy is to pack and ship these accordingly; these SteelBooks are catered to collectors and nothing sucks more than to receive a damaged SteelBook that is produced in limited quantities.

If you don't like these movies this 4K presentation won't change your mind. For me, inspecting these films with my bare eyes, I couldn't tell any giant differences between this and their blu ray film quality. The leap to 4K just isn't that noticeable with this presentation. However, this steel box set is what hooked me, I love this collector's set. Sturdy steelbox container with foam padding for each individual steenbook for each movie. This set is a showpiece, something to show off to your friends for serious geek cred lol.

While the second trilogy in the Middle Earth Universe does not quite reach LoTR levels, it's still one of the best fantasy film offerings that's ever been put together. Fans of Tolkien will appreciate the attention to visual detail accompanied yet again by a striking, beautiful score composed by the legendary Howard Shore. 4k rendition of this trilogy definitely levels up these films in my book, and while still not as good at LoTR, having this steelbook collection in your own lineup is surely a good bet.

Paired with LOTR, there is no better 6-film run in the history of movies. Sure, The Hobbit gets a little long, but if you're a fan, then you're a fan and you love it still. Watching these 4K discs makes me drool over Hobbiton and the clothes--the details are astounding. The HDR makes the Arkenstone into definite eye-candy. The only way to watch these that's better than 4K is in a theater projecting the original 48fps version--that was a theater-going experience I will never forget. Love these movies!

I am rating this 5 star based on the product. The Steelbook collection was shipped in a simple bubble bag. The side is the case was severely dented. Fortunately I only keep the individual steelbooks and not the case since all three I have purchased have been delivered in this manner and condition. As a product the boxes are beautiful and the movies are top rate. I would recommend but try to pickup in store if possible to prevent dents.

Some of the most influential, masterfully done fantasy movies of all time have never looked better. All the films have been color corrected and filtered so that they bear the same style. The colors have never popped or been more vibrant, and the sound is just impeccable. The steelbooks feature stunning artwork that perfectly capture each film, all compiled in a lovely outer case. For fans of the series, this is perhaps the best way you can have such beloved movies.

I’m glad to finally get these movies in 4K! Also, to get them in the steel book cases as well. The steel book cases are really nice and love the artwork on them. If you decide to purchase this? I would recommend purchasing this in store and not online. Because I purchased this online and the metal case that holds all 3 movies was dented up. At least if you purchase this in store, you can inspect it before deciding on it. This is the only reason why I’m giving this item 4 stars instead of 5.

First, about the packaging and such: I received this product in the mail and, although others received damaged ones, mine came in excellent condition. It was packaged with care and had plenty of bubble protectors on all sides so it didn't bounce around in transit. Good job for that!! On a technical side, The Hobbit trilogy in 4K looks and sounds absolutely stunning!! I'm glad these finally came out, and with the LotR trilogy to boot!!

The movies themselves are fantastic. I have to applaud Best Buy on the packaging and design as well as it is really great. I highly recommend the 4K UHD versions of these films. They've never looked better and so long as you have a 4K UHD television with all the bells and whistles such as Dolby Vision as well you'll be very happy with the quality of these movies. On the top of the line Sony OLED TV these movies have never looked better!

This trilogy wasn't as well received as LOTR but there is definitely some quality sgorytelling here that deserves to be viewed. The source material is a bit thin and Hollywood tries its hardest in stretching a short children's story into three multiple hour long movies with varying results. Either way it will be an enjoyable watch for those who love Middle Earth and its stories. The Steelbooks and 4k presentation are gorgeous!

well it does pale in comparison to the original trilogy, the hobbit trilogy wasn’t terrible as far as prequel’s go. This steel book set sold out very quickly, which tells you just how popular these movies are to its fans. The set itself can’t be faulted. It’s a very nice set. The 4K presentation looks gorgeous on my TV. Lots of extras on the discs too. If you’re a fan, I can’t see how you would go wrong with this. However, since it’s out of print now, the price is a bit ridiculous.

They arrived early which was a pleasant surprise. I have only watched the extended versions and I loved them! My only issue was during the massive battle of the third movie, it started skipping. When I finished watching it, I took a good look at the disk and noticed that it was dirty, but showed no signs of being scratched. I feel very confident that the skipping will no longer be an issue after a good cleaning.

I really enjoyed the Hobbit trilogy, especially the extended edition. This set is a fine companion to its more epic big brother, The Lord of the Rings. The 4K makes the movies even better. I would have given this 5 starts except my box was received with a few dings. Still, I love the steelbook versions. I was really excited when these became available again at BestBuy.com.

beautiful. If you are a collector of steelbook, and you also like the hobbit movies, this is a must. Is it worth the money, hmm, yes in a way but no. If you like all 3 movies of the hobbit, it is well worth it. It is in 4k and it is much better than before. I would recommended waiting for a sale to get it at a price for your liking. But if you can't wait, why not now.

Surprised to see it in store so I picked it up immediately. The plastic wrapping was barely on it but it was just the plastic - so, whatever. But upon further inspection the “steel” box container had multiple dents and scratches on it as if whomever delivered or stocked it just threw it on a shelf. Discs are fine, even the steelboxes within the bigger box are in good condition. That’s why I put it as a 4/5.

These transfers look incredible! And I was worried considering the fact that they’re not on film and that they really had a different look than the original LOTR. However all that went away once I saw them. Pete Jackson oversaw this transfer and put blood, sweat and tears into it. This set is worth it!

I persoannly think the Hobbit series is underrated. They did turn 1 smallish book into 3 movies but O enjoyed almost all the added scenes. Could have cut Legolas. Beautiful case and steelbooks too bad Best Buy delivered this one damaged as well. Still worth the upgrade even if damaged. 4k quality is excellent. Must have for Tolkien or Peter Jackson fans

The set looks amazing, from the steelbook case to each individual film. Really happy this item was available to purchase again from Best Buy. The film quality looks amazing and the disc contents along with digital code make this a must purchase for me.

I got this on sale and was hoping it wouldn’t be thrashed but after receiving it in a cheap bubble wrap envelop, I knew it was doomed and it surely was. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of having to return it because they were sold out at the time. Thankfully the individual steelbooks themselves are flawless though.

I owned a complete set of The Hobbit - extended version - on Blu Ray, but just had to upgrade to this 4K set. Came in a really nice metal case with foam rubber inserts. Looks great in my collection. Video and sound quality are excellent. CGI looks awesome in 4k. My only complaint is that there were no paper maps included.
