The set was for sale for $104.99 4K Ultra HD + Digital Code. I got the set home opened it to download it and the code has expired. That was the main reason I spent the extra money for the set. Otherwise i would of just bought the 4k Ultra HD set for $60. I contacted WB they said nothing they will do. I went back to the store to get a refund or have them match the $60 price. They said since it was open they legally cant take it back! So thank you for making someone overpay due to false advertising and only giving me half of what I intended to buy!

It looks really good in 4K and it has appendices, like the LOTR trilogy, that goes behind the scenes on every film of this trilogy.

    New and Smudged!?

I just opened this for the first time. The 5th disc (Battle of the Five Armies Theatrical Edition) was not properly secured in the case and there was a huge smudge of a finger print on the under side of the disc. See photo. How is this okay? Would only recommend because this seems to be a quality assurance issue. Otherwise the movies are great!

Upgraded from my Blueray version to this extended 4k with Dolby Atmos sound. Not all movies are worth the upgrade but this one is worth it for movie lovers. Sounds amazing on my 10 speaker Atmos setup.

It's been a while since I originally watched the theatrical release. I wanted the extended release plus the 4K Ultra version. I was not disappointed. The extra content was really great and the quality of the 4K release was amazing. A good test for my new 4k mini-Led TV. I saw where the film was originally filmed in 4K so the conversion was flawless. Now part of my permanent Blu-ray collection.

not a lot of people liked this trilogy because it is more goofy than serious. but i for one liked the change of that since the LOTR was serious, i wanted a change of tone for once the movies were gorgeouslu shot and they still hold up pretty good

I know, I know -- these films had a terrible experience between director changes, re-writes, the choice to shoot in 48fps BUT it's still the Hobbit within the same world Jackson brought to life with LotR. Should it have been 3 movies? No; will you be disappointed spending 11 hours watching these? Also no -- get it!

I was excited to hear about this trilogy getting a 4k makeover. I can say that Peter Jackson did a fabulous job overseeing the rescan, improved color palette, and HDR applications to all three of these films. I particularly enjoyed An Unexpected Journey, the improvements were evident within the first few minutes of the movie. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack does not disappoint. I believe these films look better than they did in theatres.

Loved the 4K extended version of the trilogy. Definitely added to the back story of the plot shown in the theatrical version. The technical quality standard of the PQ and audio was very good too More detail is evident than the previous blu ray version. HDR color saturation was pleasing and the Dolby Atmos sounded great on my 5.1 audio system. This 4K is now the definitive one to own if you are a fan of the Hobbit. Worth noting that in terms of movie quality, An Unexpected Journey and the Desolation of Smaug are by far the best of the trilogy .

Says it comes with the digital copies but when I went to redeem them, they were "expired". Not sure how digital codes expire but even after contacting customer service, they denied me new codes. Lame. Otherwise, great collection!

The 4K versions of the three Hobbit movies are excellent, especially in Dolby Vision. The images are bright, well saturated and very sharp with loads of details. The Atmos soundtracks are very immersive and have plenty of "boom" in the lower bass levels. Even if have the Blu-ray versions of the movies, these 4K versions are a worthwhile upgrade. Be aware that there are no Blu-rays or Special features included with the set. If, however, you redeem the digital code on Vudu and/or Movies Anywhere you will have access to both the theatrical and extended versions of each movie in 4k/HDR (or in HD if you're watching on a non-4K set, a tablet or a laptop) and all of their Special Features (there are tons of them). Warner Brothers and MGM have done a superb job with the transition from the original HD release to 4K. Highly Recommended.
