As a collector and A/V enthusiastic, this 4K LotR set is great. All movies were transferred to 4K faithfully, with Peter Jackson's direction. Including the Theatrical and Extended releases, make it even more of a value. Yes, Peter Jackson has said that a overall collector's edition of both The LotR and Hobbit trilogies is scheduled to be release later this year (2021), but the pricing is what keeping me from being excited. Last time they released all movies together, in a collector's edition, the price was over $400. This is a sweet-spot for collector's because they can choose which trilogy to own and at the same time, know its a quality 4K transfer of the movies. A Win-Win and a Must Have for any fan.

One of the greatest trilogies and last anticipated event films that I can remember. A well realized masterpiece from beginning to end. When I purchased this 4K box set I was a bit apprehensive at first. I had heard mixed review, mostly good. After viewing it, I have to say, I was in awe!. The transfer looks incredible, pristine, almost has a luster to it. A more natural presentation like the way it looked theatrically. The audio here is where it gets the most praise. It is out of this world. The bass extension on these discs are wall shaking. I kid you not. One of the best sounding 4K discs I have ever heard. I was impressed. This needs to be on your shelf.

Beautiful steel book box set, and amazing 4K remaster of these amazing films. That said, Best Buy please take better care when shipping these products, I had to order this three times before finally getting one in good condition. The set comes with both theatrical and extended cuts of the films and no bonus content or special features - BUT if you redeem the digital code, the iTunes version (and others) of the extended cut includes all the bonus features from the Blu-ray set including commentaries, just an FYI for those wishing this had the bonus features

THIS is how 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays are supposed to look and sound! Even if you own this movie collection on blu-ray, I believe it's well worth the price tag. The care and attention given to this 4K release is unreal, allowing me to watch the films at home in a way I've never been able to experience before. I was lucky enough to obtain the steel book version of this set, which has gorgeous artwork on the individual movie cases and on the exterior container; however, all that really matters is the quality of the films, not the containers, so if the limited edition steel book editions are no longer available, you can't go wrong with the regular edition, as the disks are all exactly the same.

I received my copy of the LOTR 4K Steelbook on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd. This was after it was originally supposed to come Monday, Nov. 30th, then it was Tuesday, the 1st. Finally came Wednesday. Love the the whole set looks, though the metal container is a little damaged, It either came that way, or when it fell out of the box on the floor. Stands a little lopsided, but I still like it. Looks great the way the set was made. Got The Hobbit set as well, but was able to pick that up at Best Buy itself and is perfect condition. Giving it 5 stars anyway just for the look and design of it. Now, I have to watch them and see if what reviewers say is true, that they look totally fabulous in 4k.

Love the artwork. Love the steelbook casing. Love that they're not stacked in a way that promotes disc scratching. It's a pricey purchase when there are no extra's included but I'm okay with that. I watched the extra's once in the 9 years I had the DVD and then Blu-ray collectors edition. As many reviewers stated, these dent easily during shipping. I went into my store and they brought out four for me to compare after hearing my complaint. I ended up buying this and The Hobbit with no dents after waiting several months for restocking. If you're a Middle Earth fan, this is a required piece of the collection!

One of the most enchanting film franchise's have been incredibly upgraded to the best 4K experiences that I have had the pleasure to behold. I have a considerable collection and this set has surpassed them all. The quality of 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision is by far the best out there and well worth the price. The Dolby Atmos sound is outstanding and all 3 films are a 5 star rating. This is what my Sony 65" OLED has been waiting for. This is what 4K is all about. If you can treat yourself to this pure escapism of film do yourself a favor and buy it, i was lucky to get the Steelbook version which looks fantastic with my collection.

These steelbooks look utterly fantastic. I highly recommend this over the more expensive set given these are unique, classier looking and cheaper! People have mentioned the picture quality which is great, but the most impressive aspect of all is the sound. WOW... Dolby atmos is reference quality and has set the standard going forward. What impressed me most with the sound is the multitude of effects in all the speakers but the dialogue is still clear as day. Note: my sound system is based on listening through a Sonos Arc soundbar. I suspect in a wired dedicated setup it would sound even better. Well worth the money.

Packaging is stunning. Visuals and audio are top notch, I’m continually blown away by what I am seeing/hearing. Definitely worth the upgrade if you already own these on blu ray, and a must own if you don’t.

So glad these films are finally on 4k. I'm typically not a big fantasy fan but I love this trilogy and my wife has got me to come around on the Harry Potter series. Haven't gotten a chance to watch all 3 of them from beginning to end yet, but what I've seen so far is incredible. These films were made for 4k. My set came perfectly as I chose to pick it up from the store on release day, I have yet to have a damaged steelbook set when I pick up from the store. These big steelbook box sets are too readily damaged if shipped (especially by UPS), so if it's more than one movie, just plan on picking it up at the store.

Incredible that I had to purchase four copies of this just to finally get one that wasn’t heavily damaged. This is such a sough out release that it still baffles me that Best Buy is willing to ship these things without any protection whatsoever. People shouldn’t have to buy the same item four different times just to finally get one that doesn’t look like a sledgehammer beat it. The SteelBooks look great, and the 4K transfers are fantastic. Arguably the best these films have ever looked.

Great transfer/remaster. This is definitely a pricey set- especially for just the films, but it is worth it for the fan. The colors have been tweaked and look so much better (I didn't think it looked bad before, but the change is remarkable). These are some of the first UHD/4k movies I've watched, and it's amazing to see the difference in clarity. I will say - as with all steelbooks, but particularly this one - it is easily dented. Look at it wrong and it's gonna crumple. Amazingly BB delivered a set without damage, but I ordered several to be sure.

Happy to have the extended edition plus the theatrical release as well. My husband and I watch the extended edition once a year in a day marathon and this time with 4K, it was really interesting to be able to notice details we hasn’t seen before. With that you also end up seeing more faults than you would have noticed before too, like CGI clipping horses through orcs and such, however it’s still a nice change from the original version. The metal container is pretty cool as well, though wish it had a cover for the opening.

This is another beautiful steelbook set from BB. Goes great with the matching Hobbit set. The good... new color work corrects the green fellowship movie. This is a rework of the movies to update them without changing them. TBH, not a fan of the concept of trying to make LOTR look like the Hobbit but I am not against it either. The results are still the best these movies will ever look and sound. You don't have to buy the steelbooks to get that quality. But the art of these steelbooks means that if you do, you won't be sorry. Extremely high happy with this buy.

I was really excited to hear about this set's release about a month and half before it's release and man was it worth the wait. I had heard about people who had it shipped to them receiving it damaged and other things but I went the good ol' fashion route of picking it up at the store and got a flawless set. I have always love the Lord of the Rings movies and was kind of worried that they might mess this up, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Everything about this set was worth the money and the wait time and I am glad to have it in my collection.

When I originally purchased my 4K player I knew this was eventually a purchase that had to be made. The LOTR Steelbook came in great condition with no damage like some have mentioned. Difficult to grab a copy , no idea when they’ll continue manufacturing these, but the set itself is stunning. The picture quality/sound of the films is A+. Come with digital of theatrical and extended of all 3 films , NO extras but I really do not mind. The set looks fantastic next to the Batman Anthology 1989-1997 Steelbook collection.

I was having my doubts about this transfer. I was then reading all the praise about how the picture quality is and sound. I must say it lives up to the promise. The colors pop off my 4k Screen! The blacks are rich and not drowned out or pixelated. The whites are very prominent and crisp. I have not see the extras yet. I did not get these films just for the extras. Of course they are nice to have! The packaging is very slick and streamlined as well. I would highly recommend this collection to the die hard LOTR films!

One Edition to rule them all in and in the steelbook box, bind them! I bought this edition with high hopes for the packaging, but it really didn't turn out as I had hoped. In the end, The steelbook cases are nice, but the box they're housed in is just awful. I think I would have been happier with the standard boxset. As such I don't keep the steelbooks in the steelbox. Due to real life events that occurred shortly before it was released, I haven't watched this yet and nor have I wanted to. I'm sure it looks fantastic, but can't bring myself to do it without my dad.

There is not much to say for this set that has not already been said but I will try. This set absolutely delivers plenty of bang for the buck. Every movie looks absolutely stunning and sound phenomenal. The steels and case are lovely just be mindful to be careful with the case as it does tend to dent fairly easily. One of the best 4K releases to date and a must have for fans of the films or for someone just wanting an incredible movie watching experience in general.

I've just finished watching all three of the extended Editions of this magnificent 4K set. Don't listen to the naysayers ou there. This is the best it has EVER looked. Picture blows all the previous editions away. This is my 3rd and final time for buying these. BB shipped mine so they arrived well packaged on the 1st in a sturdy box, with no damaged outer steel box or spine slashes. If you love LOTR then grab it up and enjoy, you won't regret it. Dolby Vision or HDR, both awesome
