The steelbooks come included in a tin case that is nicely padded with foam. The art is stunning all around. The picture quality is stellar, but inconsistent. There appears to be some DNR used holding this back from being sharper than the old blu-rays. What it does have over the old blu-rays is HDR. The tint on the extended editions is gone and the colors are better than ever. Even better in Dolby Vision. The audio has a new Dolby Atmos mix and it is superb. Sweet bass for the action scenes. The dialogue is clearer than ever. All and all a fantastic audio experience.

Some of the most influential, masterfully done fantasy movies of all time have never looked better. All the films have been color corrected and filtered so that they bear the same style. The colors have never popped or been more vibrant, and the sound is just impeccable. The steelbooks feature stunning artwork that perfectly capture each film, all compiled in a lovely outer case. For fans of the series, this is perhaps the best way you can have such beloved movies.

Was hesitant to order this at first since it was only available for shipping and not in store near anywhere near me and I've been reading all the reviews of people getting damaged sets. Luckily mine arrived in perfect condition with no scratches. The outer tin and steelbooks are really nice and definitely look great on display. Only real negative is that it doesn't include the extras from the previous release so will definitely be holding onto my 15 disc extended edition blu-ray box set for those.

First, about the packaging and such: I received this product in the mail and, although others received damaged ones, mine came in excellent condition. It was packaged with care and had plenty of bubble protectors on all sides so it didn't bounce around in transit. Good job for that!! On a technical side, The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4K looks and sounds absolutely stunning!! I'm glad these finally came out, and with the Hobbit trilogy to boot!!

The Lord of the Rings extended edition trilogy is some of the best filmmaking of all time. And now, it's available in an absolutely stunning 4K Steelbook set. Features both extended and theatrical editions. The picture quality and new color grading really brings some of the more muted colors to life. It felt like an entirely new experience watching these again (and again). An absolute must own for physical media collectors or LotR fans.

Fantastic 4k, one of the few movies where you can realllly see the upgraded detail. Lots of closeups on armor, dirt, hands, faces, etc. Plus the giant landscape shots really look great. I was hoping for more HDR pop, like the Balrog, but at least the HDR really adds to the contrast and brings out some of the overly dark spots. Would have been 5 stars if a few scenes with actual bright color (the whole movie is pretty mild, color wise) realllly jumped out. Again it works great for the green and white landscapes, though.

I’m glad to finally get these movies in 4K! Also, to get them in the steel book cases as well. The steel book cases are really nice and love the artwork on them. If you decide to purchase this? I would recommend purchasing this in store and not online. Because I purchased this online and the metal case that holds all 3 movies was dented up. At least if you purchase this in store, you can inspect it before deciding on it. This is the only reason why I’m giving this item 4 stars instead of 5.

The movies themselves are fantastic. I have to applaud Best Buy on the packaging and design as well as it is really great. I highly recommend the 4K UHD versions of these films. They've never looked better and so long as you have a 4K UHD television with all the bells and whistles such as Dolby Vision as well you'll be very happy with the quality of these movies. On the top of the line Sony OLED TV these movies have never looked better!

This includes both the theatrical and extended version of all three movies! The individual and box cases are all beautiful. If you don't have an 4k Ultra HD player, the films still look great! I was so happy to find Spanish dubbing for the extended additions! I looked EVERYWHERE and my friend I got it for is so happy to be able to share her favorite movies with her non-English speaking parents!

I will give 5 stars for the steelbooks themselves, but the outer case they're placed in with foam protection came with a very obtrusive and visible dent on one corner. For something that costed me more than $100, this was a lil disappointing. However, I can overlook this as the steelbooks are flawless. And is there much to say about LOTR? Also, these sold out very fast!

The set itself is great. Great packaging, sleek design on the full box as well as the cases. They all come with their digital copy slip as well. I probably should have looked into it a bit more though as I didn't realize that there's no special features or anything included in these, but that's on me. The sound design definitely shines on a full surround system.

First thing the metal case it comes with is really nice, the set is from Best buy is kick butt only from them other sets from different sellers are Cardboard , now let's talk about the movies are the best movies that ever came to the theater now in 4K are amazing picture Quality are beautiful, just buy it

The movies are great and they look fantastic in 4k, zero extras though so I'd wait until they release another fully packed 4K set next summer (they've confirmed this) if you want that extra content. The steelbooks themselves are just alright. Individually they have cool designs but the outercase is so bulky it really takes up a ton of bookshelf. Only recommended for the hardcore LotR fans that want their movies to stand out from the rest of the collection.

Most people that are fans of this epic story probably already own the complete set of both the theater version and the extended cuts also. So is the steel book4K version worth another upgrade imho most definitely yes. The packaging is top notch but the real deal is the upgrade of picture and audio. Considering these films are 20 years old wow. Reference quality on both audio and video

WOW.....I, like everyone else, has been a waiting a very long time to get our hands on the LOTR and The Hobbit in 4K. I was totally blown away and not disappointed. The video is superb and the audio is fantastic on my surround sound system. I wanted to hold out until next year for the Sultimate Collector edition, but I could not wait. I highly recommend this 4K to any LOTR fan!!!

Steelbooks are awesome, cant deny that. Movie looks awesome. I do appreciate the fact that all 3 steelbooks are padded by the tin case they all come in, however, for some genius idea they thought it was a good idea to ship this collector item in a bubble wrap envelope which provided no protection whatsoever to the tin case they all come in. Shipping department gets 0 stars.

Very, very nicely packaged Best Buy Only SteelBook Edition of this much loved trilogy based on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. 3 Separate SteelBooks come in a sold SteelBook outer package. Very solid feel that weighs in at a kilo (2.2 pounds). Thanks to Best Buy for making this one available in the 4k Format during this era of Big Screen TV's.

If you have not seen this movie in 4K you are in for a treat. It comes with the theatrical release and the extended version which adds some important scenes that provides background. I sat down to test the disc to make sure they worked and wound up re-watching all three movies. The Steel Case is a nice way to store them. Most impressive!

Beautiful UHD and HDR remaster of these films. I appreciate that both cuts of each are included. Like many releases, the HDR upgrade is more noticeable than the increase in resolution, even on a 120" projector screen. Contrast and color accuracy makes details pop. It only loses one star for not including the vast extras from the previous DVD and Blu Ray extended edition releases, but most of us own these already. Highly recommended.

I watched Fellowship last night and was simply blown away. The remaster is amazing. The colors popped, the detail was so crisp (in most scenes). I felt like I was watching it again for the first time. The steelbook set itself is beautiful. The case is quite large and has nice thick foam holding each steelbook case. I could not recommend this more for a LOTR fan.
