I did really enjoy the movie and it held my interest all the way through. But I'm not sure if I should have purchased it. Normally I buy movies with the expectation of multiple viewings but once it's enough for me with this one. I didn't really care for the main character. Not that he's a bad man or character but I just didn't feel like he was ever in danger or passionate about exploring. I think that might just be my personal taste. I feel if you choose to leave your loving family then whatever is driving you should be overwhelming. Anyway, it is still a good movie. Just my two cents.

This is a story of a man who was former military turned explorer to find the lost city of Zed.
And the exploits that he went through as well as his, rejection from an explorers guild, for being considered over the top.
Raising his family and children, while trying to balance his search for proof of life existing in the Amazon area, before civilizations in the world and technology.

Hunnam rocks, but it didn't do it for me as a film

I had heard about this film, but didn't see it in theaters. Since I'm a big Hunnam fan and love period pieces, I gave it a try. It was a good story, well acted, but a little boring. Shows the class struggle, the need for people to make something of themselves and chase their dreams as well as the mystery of finding something out there that no one else has discovered yet.

An excellent historical film. A highly underrated movie about the search for a lost city in the Amazonian jungle. The Blu-Ray is rather simple but it doesn't bring a digital copy or many features which is kind of a let down because I definitely wanted to know more about the film. If you like a real life Indiana Jones story, here's one for you.

Probably one of the best movies I've seen this year. It's lush and Grand in scope. Really cool to have films that take place in the jungle it just feels real and natural also the performance by Charlie Hunnam was phenomenal as well especially since I wasn't expecting much from him. This was an excellent film that I think even the most weary of people would find enjoyable it's got drama, adventure, great storytelling and we get to learn about someone in history we don't really talk about very often someone who was a visionary beyond his years rest in peace Percy Fawcett and his son.

As a storyline, I believe it is well structured, with a beginning, an end, and a good plot. Execution could have been a little bit better delivered. Also, the entire lighting scheme for the movie was dark, and not "dark" as usually referenced to elements of a horror or suspenseful move; this movie was dark, as in not enough light.

This is a good film. Good visual quality and audio quality. The best performance of Hunnam's career and the director's best film to date. Too bad the UHD version of this film was cancelled before its release date. The blu-ray is good, but the UHD had a chance to be great, since the film was shot and mastered at 4k resolution.

Courageous Compulsion

This is the story -- based on an actual person -- of a man who has to follow his obsession with discovering lost civilizations in the unexplored South American Amazon jungle in the early 1900s. When he does so, risking his own life, his efforts are acts of courage. When he thereby puts his family members in jeopardy, one might reach another verdict. This is an adventure thriller, 2 and 1/2 hours long, which, however, never seems less than compelling viewing, with great visuals and great character portrayals.

Charlie Hunnam shows what he is made of! Alongside Ridley Scott's King Arthur, this is his chance to shine. But this story is far more gritty and real than Guy Ritchie's "King Arthur". With a surprising subtle performance by Robert Pattinson, this is the tale of the British explorers trying to find El Dorado.

At a time when new discoveries were a national pastime. A true story of a man's adventure that would clear his family name. Later, just the adventure of discovery was enough for him. Amid many disbelievers he we went exploring to find an ancient civilization in South America never before seen.

Loosely based on a true story, a British explorer is sent to South America to map the Brazil - Bolivia border in the earlly 1900's. He becomes infatuated after finding shards of an ancient civilization. If you like "historical" movies, this one is okay but only at a good price.

A storyline with lots of potential that just kind of falls short. I wouldnt say a bad movie necessarily, but not a good one either. This movie is very uneventful. No real build up and climax, just starts and stays flat. Very disappointing with so much potential.

The film realistically portrays the unbelievable hardships endured by those exploring uncharted jungle territory in Amazonia at the turn of the 20th Century. Col. Percy Fawcett’s 3rd trip in April of 1925 was to be his last – never to return – he disappeared without trace and his ultimate fate is still unknown today. An astonishing story of perseverance and quest for the truth of the Amazons cultural past

Charlie Hunnam gives the best performance of his career so far. Robert Pattinson is fabulous as well. However, the film as a whole loses a lot of its hoped-for impact through strange and confusing editing. Perhaps there is a director's cut with missing footage that would help keep a viewer more compelled by the admittedly fascinating true story. If you want a great Amazon jungle film, watch Herzog's Aguirre or Fitzcarraldo. In fact, if you haven't seen them both, watch them immediately. This film even indirectly references Fitzcarraldo with the opera scene. It's gorgeous and interesting, but not great. Tom Hardy's recent Taboo series was English period imperialist drama at its best. This is a near miss.

This is a good movie filled with plenty of action, drama, thrills and adventure. Good from the very beginning to the end and having you begging for more and more. If adventure is your thing then this is the movie to be added to your collection.
